Obi's Pure Power Plant - Back To My Roots

Hi Tead,

I had the buckets from previous grows. I found that the 5 gallon bucket size was too big for me and my grow area. I didn't feel my plants were taking advantage of the bucket volume and reservoir. Rather than purchase new buckets I simply chopped the tops off of these to make a 3.5 gallon set :) It looks a little rough but the plants don't mind :)

The solo cup was a transplant backup. Spot on, Tead. My intent was to grow 6-8 plants. I started with a 10 pack of seeds. 1 died a few days after germination. I transplanted 8 into the buckets and kept the 9th around in the solo cup as a backup.

Shortly after transplant I noticed all of the bucket plants struggling, so, I dubbed the solo cup an "experiment control plant" as well. The solo cup plant shot ahead of the buckets for a time. I believe it was able to retain more moisture from the minimal watering I was providing all of the plants. I think the tide will soon turn as the solo cup runs out of root space. We shall see!

Yea... my red buckets are about 3gal. I really feel it's a sweet spot for me and my garden space. I've tried the 5's, but it's just overkill in my little world.
I think you can get a boost from the solo cups... the roots get a chance to drop down into a res... even if it's a super small res. I assume you'll end up watering them several times daily as it's size grows and uptake increases.

Quick update. There is noticeable growth after 24 hours. I think everything is on track now. I have a tentative plan to top all of the plants by this weekend if things keep progressing as they are.

I was planning on flipping to 12/12 November 1st. Now I'm not so sure. The 10 day loss of growth is pretty substantial. This is one reason I prefer the photos over autos. I can recoup the 10 days on the backend of veg if I desire. We'll see how things look in a couple weeks.

I'm feeling comfortable with the 100% nute strength. I don't think I'll raise it much further than that. For now this level appears just right for this strain. The foliage is a nice green. Not too dark and not too light.

I removed the two 4000K bulbs and put the 6500K back in. I was getting bad vibes from that setup. I can't explain it. It just felt like the right thing to do.

Update:
Fed nutrients: 2ml CalMag, 4ml micro, 4ml grow, 2ml bloom per gallon. Total of 2 gallons between the 8 plants. Let's see how that goes.

Pics:

Pic update. 48 hours since last pics. This plant only has 2 inches until she reaches the edge of the bucket. I grabbed a ruler for perspective.

All plants were topped this evening. Water tomorrow. We're on cruise control now. Feet up and more of the same 'till flip. Here is a crappy pic of this evenings scissor work:

Welcome Fuzz. I'm glad you are here.

Tead, if those are FIM's they're the real deal, lol. The large top is the first I took. Thats the typical size I take. The others are an attempt at a micro top so to speak. My thought was to try and lessen the impact of the cut and speed recovery. There might be one or two legit FIM's in there!

Update, pics and thoughts. Pics first.

Watered: 4gal RO with CalMag at 2ml/gal.

The plants look a bit droopy today. They were ready for a drink and I had a ventilation malfunction which brought the cabinet temperature up to about 87F at the canopy. The exit vent tube somehow fell off the main fan so the fan was just recirculating hot air for about 8 hours. I cannot figure out how this happened so I'm filing it in the WTF folder and moving on.

Three plants have a very nice amount of underbrush developing. I'm hoping the recent topping will help bring these branches up to the top of the canopy. I will be able to start tucking in about 4 or 5 days which will help those lowers a great deal.

I'm struggling a bit with the number of plants I have going (8). My 3x5 space is unforgiving. Things are kind of smashed together on the floor. Especially the drip pans. I'd like to find or create a 3x5 pan and do away with the individual circles. Additionally, the two plants on the left are lacking a little in available light so they are a bit smaller. I'm thinking if I keep them all I'll have a pretty thick SOG even if I flip as early as Nov 1. Decisions, Decisions. Shorter plants go well with a T5 but will I get enough bud sites with a six week veg? Hmm. I'm going to trust my gut and just keep the cruise control engaged for now. Let's see what we see in 3 or 4 days.

Related to the exhaust malfunction today, it was immediately evident something was amiss as soon as I entered the room with the cabinet. I could easily smell the plants from outside the cab. My first thought was carbon filter issues. As soon as I opened the door the actual problem was clear and it was comforting to know the filter has been doing a good job.

The level of odor with this grow has been moderate and easy to control so far. Previous grows have smelled much louder at this stage. The smell is a little more musky funk than bitter skunk. A gentle rub of a fan leaf reveals a nice citrus undertone which I really like. This is getting fun.

Cheers,

Fed this afternoon, 2 gallons.
4ml/gal: Flora Micro, Grow, Bloom
2ml/gal: CalMag
4 drops of pH down brought me to 5.6 pH. I have a half gallon of pH down on hand >.< I fear I'll have to toss it before I use it all, lol.

Most buckets could have gone another day or two without water but I felt like they are in need of some food. From here on out watering or feeding will likely be every 3-5 days or so depending on the weight of the buckets.

Earlier in the week I grabbed a plant with weaker side branching and cut off two of the mid section fan leaves to see what would happen. Hopefully it will lead to more light and growth to the under area. Too soon to tell. I'm concerned all I did was remove two nice solar panels. We'll see.

Pics soon.
