Nutes: What To Use & How To Use Them Tutorial

Good morning guys and gals! So still in the researching phase. Pretty sure I'm gonna go the hempy route. Seems super simple, my cup of tea. So with it being a passive hydro system I should be able to use just about any hydro nutes, correct? Anyone have preferences they'd like to share? Simpler the better. Also years ago I took a crack at growing our favorite flower. Screwed up royally on the harvest, drying, curing process, but live and learn I suppose. In any case one of the biggest things I learned that grow was how much I detested buying ro water. I rent and am not incredibly handy so an ro filtration system is out of the question. I checked the ppm of my tap water and I believe it's around 51 ppm? I question this because I'm unsure whether I'm reading my meter correctly. There are several modes. I got that number using the ppm 442 mode. I should probably ask about that in another thread. In any case I can access the water quality report and was hoping someone could point me to what is considered good/adequate water. I'll buy ro if I absolutely have to, but I know me. I'll hate it. Well these are the charts I have available... and after- is help for those of you who- due to resourses- must use Miracle grow (or schultz/Peters) Or Fish Ferts.


This Lists the BASICS needed to use most readily available Brands (and a few of the extras-- but there ARE more!) and both a weekly schedual (dirt & hydro IF you change the water weekly) and Phasic feeding for bubblers.
Phasic shedules can be followed for soil-- but do not work as well!

ALL MEASURES ARE PER U.S. GALLON...

EDITED NOTE FOR PHASIC FEEDINGS!!!
Unless your Nutes specific schedule tells you what to do for sprouting and seedling, you need to cut back on the nutes for that stage BEFORE youconsider it to be "phase one"
Week ONE is NOT as soon as they are sprouted and have leaves! Week one is after they have 4 sets of true leaves---
Start your new seedlings in JUST Ph adjusted water (can use hydrogard & superthrive)
When they get their 3rd set of leaves--add HALF of the amound called for in phase 1 of your phasic schedule--
When they open another 2 sets of leaves (fully!) then add the other 1/2 to bring it to the amount required for "Phase 1" this will greatly reduce the possibility of nute-burn or over feeding...and allows the babies to adjust to the nutes easier.

NOTE ABOUT FLUSHING!!!
If growing in Soil, you usually Start flushing (running clear water thru the soil to rince out the un-used nutes) 2 weeks prior to harvest. This is nessisary to force the plant to use it's stored nutes & protiens, that otherwise result in harsh or grassy product.
But flushing also OFTEN results in losing yield; since you will reduce the available nutrients to the plant during the last 2 weeks of growth when the plants usually put on the most weight.
Simply STOP Nuting at whatever week you are at when time to flush.
IF you use the Ememrgency flush method, follow the entire schedule until the plants are ready to harvest.

keep the res filled in between feedings with ph adjusted water--



The reasonFox Farms doesn't list nutes for weeks 2 & 4 is that it ASSUMES your res won't go down, so you won't NEED any additional nutes (if your res stays full- great!)..
but if the plants are pretty big, or the room is warm/dry-- they can need refilling up to 3-4x a week!!! The chart doesn't take that into account--
Remember-- feed AT MOST 1x each week-- only water in-between!
Use additional nutes from week one at 1/2 rate until in flower (between recomended feeds) then in flower-- for additional feeds, use the nutes from the 1st week of flower at 1/2 rate in between...again--NEVER feed more than 1x a week!

Bubblers MAY use the weekly Schedules-- BUT ONLY if you use an ec/ppm meter to keep the levels where they should be....
an ec around 1.2-1.5 in veg.. then 1.5 -1.7 in flower unlitt the last 2-3 weeks... then can go as high as 2.0. Watch yor plants! they'll tell you if you are over/under feeding!

Comes in Grow and Bloom formula-add 5ml to your current nutes schedule.

KoolBloom: Concentrated additive that makes for bigger and more blooms, increases essential oil production.
Add 1.5 grams during last 2 weeks of bloom

CHI: Foliar spray made from Chitin (a marine extract) Makes the plant insect resistant!
Use ONLY as a foliar spray!!
Use 210ml per gallon throughout Veg & bloom cycleuse only every other week, and stop 3 weeks before Harvest!!

Diamond Nectar: Premium Fulvic Acid allows the plant to break-down and use nutrients more efficiently.

Phasic--same amounts per gallon, once when you fill reservoir, and as needed (not more than 1x weekly) when you re-fill the rez.!


From day 1 of 12/12: feed weekly using 4tsp per Gallon of IONIC BLOOM.

Fish Fertilizer
This is for the use of Alaska brand Fish Fertilizer, and Alaska Kelp Fertilizer-- But other brands of Fish Emulsion and Organic nutrient that is JUST P & K with NO "N" value will work also.

Start The FIsh Ferts at 1/2 recomended rate when the plants have 3 sets of true leaves... after week 2 of veg, go to 3/4 stregnth...
When ready for 12/12-- you need to get some Alaska Kelp fert* (-- it is just P-K... add this to your 3/4 stregnth Fish Ferts at 1/4 stregnth... and use this blend thru the bloom period...
IF she seems to need more-- feed more often instead of increasing the amounts... with this fert , that seems to work better.

You will probably need additional micronutes-- so I would call around, or go online for EarthJuice Microblast... use at 1/3 stregnth every week.. as the Fish ferts arent complete with all the micro's needed.


*or another No Nitrogen Organic



ESPOMA NUTES :
Espoma is a brand of dry, granual organics used mostly in outdoor in-ground growing, but CAN be used at a lesser rate to enrich the soil of container plants.

It is marketed as Plant-tone, Veg-Tone, Holly-Tone, Rose-tone and Flower-tone.

You will want to get Veg-tone and Flower-tone... If flower-tone is not available, use Just the veg-tone.

For in-ground,prep your planting site, adding 1/4 cup of the Veg-tone to the hole you dig for the plants (at least 18 inches wide and 12 inches deep- the soil fluffed and back In the hole when you add the Espoma)
... or in containers, use 2 tablespoons in 5 galons of soil.
When the Plants Begin to bloom, use the Flower-tone as a top dressing according tot he bags directions, and gently rub into the soil around the plants so i doesn't wash away in the rain.

You MAY use the Fish-Fert Schedule along with the Espoma, but reduce the feedings to every other week.



FOR MIRACLE GROW NUTES :

If you really MUST use Miracle Grow Nutes or Soil cuz there isn't anything else available (cost can't be a reason, MG is about the same price as some organics !)

THEN USE THIS GUIDE PLEASE!!!

(enough for 2-3 plants .. just use more jugs for more plants!)
Get regular miracle grow (Not tomato or Rose food or azalea formula!)
AND Blossom Booster (or Schultz Professional Bloom food)
get 2- 1 gallon jugs of spring water from the store (about $1 each)
and an empty jug. Mark them (A) (B) & (C) --- (B) is the empty jug!

in the 1st jug (A) mix the MG at 1/4 the recomended rate for indoor plants.

In the 2nd jug (C), mix at 1/2 stregnth for indoor plants.

pour 1/2 of both into the empty jug (B)

Now-- when your plants get their 3rd set of leaves, feed once every 10 days. Start with (A) for the 1st 2 feed... then (B).. and end-up with (C) the week before you go 12/12.

FLUSH YOUR PLANTS WITH 5 GALLONS OF CLEAR WATER BEFOR GOING 12/12!

MG builds up-- and will lock-up as you add the stronger bloom nutes!
as the final part of the flush-- pour in a couple pints of your new bloom nutes (see below)


Do the same with your bloom nutes, Mix ahead in larger amounts... BUT--mix Jug (A) at 1/2 rate, Jug (C) at full stregnth-- and (B) the 2 mixed.

Start with (A) the 1st day of 12/12, then again in 10 days,
then switch to (B). Do not switch to (C) until the week before you flush for harvest!
when the trichomes just start turning cloudy, give em their last dose. In 10 days, check the trichs again.. if not all cloudy, you can feed again-- But go back to (B)

MAKE SURE TO FLUSH WELL AND WAIT THE FULL 2 WEEKS TO HARVEST!

You need to flush all the Nitrogen and magnesium out of the plants-- so Flush them well, put back in the bloom room the full 2 weeks till harvest, water as needed .. but absolutely no nutes or foliar sprays!

IF you foliar fed during the grow-- be sure to use a sprayer of water to gently shower it off the plants! (also gets rid of dead bugs & dust stuck to the buds!)

USING MG SOIL IS NEVER RECOMENDED!!
it has TIME RELEASED nutes-- so flushing is impossible... and you do not know how much nutes are being released or used by the plants.
If yYou Used MG soil, do NOT nute at all during veg... and use only additional P-K and suppliments without "N" during bloom...
And pre-harvest flushing can NOT be done on the normal 2 week schedule because of the time released nutes-- you must emergency flush when the trichs are how ya want em...



Cut the plant off at soil level. Place plant in a bucket with enough PLAIN tapwater to cover the base, but not touch lower limbs or vegetation....

Add a bubbler to the bucket to help "fool" the plant into thinking it is still alive (this only works up to 4 days before they wilt!)
Tthe plant will now use the nutrients stored in it's system . Leave under the lights at least 2 days-- up to 4 (3 is the usual amount)
IF you are one who puts their plants in the dark the last 3 days, give em at least 24 hours under lights before ya do... the photosynthesis will help the plant flush out unused nitrogen.


When using MG Fertilizer (as well as Schultz or Peter's ) Watch for:
Clawing
brown dry spots
crinckling leaves
pale new growth
Yellowing

if these happen, flush the plant, and wait 2-3 days before feeding again.
If Using MG soil and this happens, your best route is to re-plant in a bigger planter with different soil... DO NOT try to remove the existing soil from the roots of the plant!!!!

I use GH FloraNova Grow and Bloom. Everything I read (until now) tells me I should be using them for how their labeled. Grow in Veg and Bloom in Flower. I'm about 40 days from germ and well into Veg. Your guide doesn't mention my nutes specifically, but talks about GH products.

I currently use the labelled amount of Grow (1 tsp per gal) and 2 tsp of Cal-Mag for feedings in water corrected to 6.3.

Should I be adding Bloom to the mix? And if so, how much? Or is it too late?

Newbie here working on setting up first grow!!

Getting ready to start the whole orocess
Using
- sunshine mix #4 in Smart pots 5gal
- Advanced nutrient: grow, micro & bloom
- Northern lights autoblooms
- Mars ts2000w in a 3x3 tent

1. Do I use distilled water, tap to mix nutes?

2. How much of each of the nutes in how much water?

3. Do I use all 3 nutes at the same time or alternate during my watering or at different stages of growth?

4. How often would I flush?

4. What is a recommended watering regime... times per week?

Newbie here working on setting up first grow!!

Getting ready to start the whole orocess
Using
- sunshine mix #4 in Smart pots 5gal
- Advanced nutrient: grow, micro & bloom
- Northern lights autoblooms
- Mars ts2000w in a 3x3 tent

1. Do I use distilled water, tap to mix nutes?

2. How much of each of the nutes in how much water?

3. Do I use all 3 nutes at the same time or alternate during my watering or at different stages of growth?

4. How often would I flush?

4. What is a recommended watering regime... times per week?

Get the AN nute schedule and run them at half strength max, it shows u the amount to add at different stages of growth

pH yer mix after all are added to yer water

Tap may be fine but a ppm meter is good to tell how much crap is in it. RO water is cheap ifbu buy them at the grocery store dispenser or buy a RO Buddy system

You can use tap water but if you are on city serviced water let chlorine dissipate for a couple days. I start nutes at day 14 at 1/4 strength, then go to half then full nutes. I flush twice at the end of the grow a week apart. As far as how often, once the seed is planted lift to see how heavy the pot is, then use a spray bottle to wet the soil 2 or 3 times a day. Once they are big enough to handle a full gallon 2 to 3 times a week should be good, just go by the weight of the potted plant. Hope this helps.

Check the "soil" box under Growing Medium, and the "pH Perfect® Sensi" boxes under Base for Veg and Base for Bloom, then check the boxes for which of the three recipes you wish to download in the list on the right.

Sensi soil patch A has a ratio of 3-0-0 and patch B is 2-4-8 I need to reduce how many ml of patch A in the last weeks.Download from the manufacturer does not say when to reduce patch A.
Or I mix all patch A and patch B for all weeks

Well these are the charts I have available... and after- is help for those of you who- due to resourses- must use Miracle grow (or schultz/Peters) Or Fish Ferts.


This Lists the BASICS needed to use most readily available Brands (and a few of the extras-- but there ARE more!) and both a weekly schedual (dirt & hydro IF you change the water weekly) and Phasic feeding for bubblers.
Phasic shedules can be followed for soil-- but do not work as well!

ALL MEASURES ARE PER U.S. GALLON...

EDITED NOTE FOR PHASIC FEEDINGS!!!
Unless your Nutes specific schedule tells you what to do for sprouting and seedling, you need to cut back on the nutes for that stage BEFORE youconsider it to be "phase one"
Week ONE is NOT as soon as they are sprouted and have leaves! Week one is after they have 4 sets of true leaves---
Start your new seedlings in JUST Ph adjusted water (can use hydrogard & superthrive)
When they get their 3rd set of leaves--add HALF of the amound called for in phase 1 of your phasic schedule--
When they open another 2 sets of leaves (fully!) then add the other 1/2 to bring it to the amount required for "Phase 1" this will greatly reduce the possibility of nute-burn or over feeding...and allows the babies to adjust to the nutes easier.

NOTE ABOUT FLUSHING!!!
If growing in Soil, you usually Start flushing (running clear water thru the soil to rince out the un-used nutes) 2 weeks prior to harvest. This is nessisary to force the plant to use it's stored nutes & protiens, that otherwise result in harsh or grassy product.
But flushing also OFTEN results in losing yield; since you will reduce the available nutrients to the plant during the last 2 weeks of growth when the plants usually put on the most weight.
Simply STOP Nuting at whatever week you are at when time to flush.
IF you use the Ememrgency flush method, follow the entire schedule until the plants are ready to harvest.

keep the res filled in between feedings with ph adjusted water--



The reasonFox Farms doesn't list nutes for weeks 2 & 4 is that it ASSUMES your res won't go down, so you won't NEED any additional nutes (if your res stays full- great!)..
but if the plants are pretty big, or the room is warm/dry-- they can need refilling up to 3-4x a week!!! The chart doesn't take that into account--
Remember-- feed AT MOST 1x each week-- only water in-between!
Use additional nutes from week one at 1/2 rate until in flower (between recomended feeds) then in flower-- for additional feeds, use the nutes from the 1st week of flower at 1/2 rate in between...again--NEVER feed more than 1x a week!

Bubblers MAY use the weekly Schedules-- BUT ONLY if you use an ec/ppm meter to keep the levels where they should be....
an ec around 1.2-1.5 in veg.. then 1.5 -1.7 in flower unlitt the last 2-3 weeks... then can go as high as 2.0. Watch yor plants! they'll tell you if you are over/under feeding!

General Hydroponics also makes supplements. These are optional products. Some people swear by them, others report little noticeable difference. Try them if you like; you may see some worthwhile results.

Floralicious: Concentrated bioactive microbial, marine, mineral, and plant extracts. Contributes to aroma and flavor
Comes in Grow and Bloom formula-add 5ml to your current nutes schedule.

KoolBloom: Concentrated additive that makes for bigger and more blooms, increases essential oil production.
Add 1.5 grams during last 2 weeks of bloom

CHI: Foliar spray made from Chitin (a marine extract) Makes the plant insect resistant!
Use ONLY as a foliar spray!!
Use 210ml per gallon throughout Veg & bloom cycleuse only every other week, and stop 3 weeks before Harvest!!

Diamond Nectar: Premium Fulvic Acid allows the plant to break-down and use nutrients more efficiently.
Add 40ml during Veg cycle (only once!) and 40ml during 12/12 cycle(only once!)


Florasheild: Natural microbial enzymes that keep your reservoir clean and aids against fungus & disease.
Add 37ml per gallon during each stage... can also use double-strength to sterilize tools!

SCHEDULE:
From 3-leaf stage to day 1 of 12/12: Feed Weekly Using 4 tsp per Gallon of IONIC GROW.

Phasic--same amounts per gallon, once when you fill reservoir, and as needed (not more than 1x weekly) when you re-fill the rez.!

These Suppliments can be added to the above schedules as follows:

"ROOT"= 3/4tsp per gallon in water from time seed planted until has 3
sets of leaves

"GROWTH"= 3/4tsp Per Gallon to All GROW feedings

"BLOOM"= 3/4 tsp per Gallon to all Bloom feedings



Fish Fertilizer
This is for the use of Alaska brand Fish Fertilizer, and Alaska Kelp Fertilizer-- But other brands of Fish Emulsion and Organic nutrient that is JUST P & K with NO "N" value will work also.

Start The FIsh Ferts at 1/2 recomended rate when the plants have 3 sets of true leaves... after week 2 of veg, go to 3/4 stregnth...
When ready for 12/12-- you need to get some Alaska Kelp fert* (-- it is just P-K... add this to your 3/4 stregnth Fish Ferts at 1/4 stregnth... and use this blend thru the bloom period...
IF she seems to need more-- feed more often instead of increasing the amounts... with this fert , that seems to work better.

You will probably need additional micronutes-- so I would call around, or go online for EarthJuice Microblast... use at 1/3 stregnth every week.. as the Fish ferts arent complete with all the micro's needed.


*or another No Nitrogen Organic



ESPOMA NUTES :
Espoma is a brand of dry, granual organics used mostly in outdoor in-ground growing, but CAN be used at a lesser rate to enrich the soil of container plants.

It is marketed as Plant-tone, Veg-Tone, Holly-Tone, Rose-tone and Flower-tone.

You will want to get Veg-tone and Flower-tone... If flower-tone is not available, use Just the veg-tone.

For in-ground,prep your planting site, adding 1/4 cup of the Veg-tone to the hole you dig for the plants (at least 18 inches wide and 12 inches deep- the soil fluffed and back In the hole when you add the Espoma)
... or in containers, use 2 tablespoons in 5 galons of soil.
When the Plants Begin to bloom, use the Flower-tone as a top dressing according tot he bags directions, and gently rub into the soil around the plants so i doesn't wash away in the rain.

You MAY use the Fish-Fert Schedule along with the Espoma, but reduce the feedings to every other week.



FOR MIRACLE GROW NUTES :

If you really MUST use Miracle Grow Nutes or Soil cuz there isn't anything else available (cost can't be a reason, MG is about the same price as some organics !)

THEN USE THIS GUIDE PLEASE!!!

(enough for 2-3 plants .. just use more jugs for more plants!)
Get regular miracle grow (Not tomato or Rose food or azalea formula!)
AND Blossom Booster (or Schultz Professional Bloom food)
get 2- 1 gallon jugs of spring water from the store (about $1 each)
and an empty jug. Mark them (A) (B) & (C) --- (B) is the empty jug!

in the 1st jug (A) mix the MG at 1/4 the recomended rate for indoor plants.

In the 2nd jug (C), mix at 1/2 stregnth for indoor plants.

pour 1/2 of both into the empty jug (B)

Now-- when your plants get their 3rd set of leaves, feed once every 10 days. Start with (A) for the 1st 2 feed... then (B).. and end-up with (C) the week before you go 12/12.

FLUSH YOUR PLANTS WITH 5 GALLONS OF CLEAR WATER BEFOR GOING 12/12!

MG builds up-- and will lock-up as you add the stronger bloom nutes!
as the final part of the flush-- pour in a couple pints of your new bloom nutes (see below)


Do the same with your bloom nutes, Mix ahead in larger amounts... BUT--mix Jug (A) at 1/2 rate, Jug (C) at full stregnth-- and (B) the 2 mixed.

Start with (A) the 1st day of 12/12, then again in 10 days,
then switch to (B). Do not switch to (C) until the week before you flush for harvest!
when the trichomes just start turning cloudy, give em their last dose. In 10 days, check the trichs again.. if not all cloudy, you can feed again-- But go back to (B)

MAKE SURE TO FLUSH WELL AND WAIT THE FULL 2 WEEKS TO HARVEST!

You need to flush all the Nitrogen and magnesium out of the plants-- so Flush them well, put back in the bloom room the full 2 weeks till harvest, water as needed .. but absolutely no nutes or foliar sprays!

IF you foliar fed during the grow-- be sure to use a sprayer of water to gently shower it off the plants! (also gets rid of dead bugs & dust stuck to the buds!)

USING MG SOIL IS NEVER RECOMENDED!!
it has TIME RELEASED nutes-- so flushing is impossible... and you do not know how much nutes are being released or used by the plants.
If yYou Used MG soil, do NOT nute at all during veg... and use only additional P-K and suppliments without "N" during bloom...
And pre-harvest flushing can NOT be done on the normal 2 week schedule because of the time released nutes-- you must emergency flush when the trichs are how ya want em...



Cut the plant off at soil level. Place plant in a bucket with enough PLAIN tapwater to cover the base, but not touch lower limbs or vegetation....

Add a bubbler to the bucket to help "fool" the plant into thinking it is still alive (this only works up to 4 days before they wilt!)
Tthe plant will now use the nutrients stored in it's system . Leave under the lights at least 2 days-- up to 4 (3 is the usual amount)
IF you are one who puts their plants in the dark the last 3 days, give em at least 24 hours under lights before ya do... the photosynthesis will help the plant flush out unused nitrogen.


When using MG Fertilizer (as well as Schultz or Peter's ) Watch for:
Clawing
brown dry spots
crinckling leaves
pale new growth
Yellowing

if these happen, flush the plant, and wait 2-3 days before feeding again.
If Using MG soil and this happens, your best route is to re-plant in a bigger planter with different soil... DO NOT try to remove the existing soil from the roots of the plant!!!!

Molasses provides sugar food for the roots thriving bacteria which is a good thing. Molasses is used to make worm tea for your plants and their roots. EPSOM salt is good to add Magnesium to the soil if you don't have Cal/Mag.

So the method is two tablespoons of each and also coffee I'm thinking of doing this and changing from my mega crop
