NorthernCosmos' First Indoor Soil Auto Grow: 2019

Hi CraZy! :D

I've been without the net for a little while. The ADSL modem went bust after a generous field of thunderstorm static.... It took a few days before Telia sent out a new one (cursed be their name - worst company I've ever dealt with, although they sent the modem quickly) .

While waiting for that I used a half/mostly defect old modem that would run very slowly for 5 minutes before packing in due to overheating. I put it in one of those portable cooler boxes with a Peltier element and fan. Then I stuffed it with frozen water bottles and cooling elements. It would work for a while before the speed dropped off and it eventually stopped, then it was time for new ice bottles and cooling elements. The whole operation was completely ridiculous, but let me fetch mail and follow up some important stuff :laughtwo:

A couple of days ago I dropped two OG Kush autos. One of them has broken soil. I'll be back with some pics from the next watering, in a day or two.

LoL! The worst companies to deal with is those old stately owned ones both Telia and PostNord.... Glad you got them to send out a new modem so fast they usually want u to try your whole neighborhoods modems before they send a new one.... :laughtwo:

Had an issue myself with both Telia and PostNord lately, ordered airbrush paint from UK they sent the paint the 25th aug and it arrived to Sweden the 26th, yesterday I got a late pickup notice it had been laying there waiting pickup... and I emailed the UK based company twice and almost cursing them about it not arriving.

Think you have been watching too many of my builds Nc... really sounds like a permanent craZy fix... :laughtwo:

Oh finally OG :)

I'm still dreaming of getting in to my tents.... :D

It's day 31 and 38 for the Purple Haze and the Blueberry Express. They're super tiny and they started the (pre) flowering already at ca. 3 weeks old. The buds of the Purple Haze are soooo tiny. I have no idea why these are so diminutive plants - could be the soil is less than optimal, although I can't say why...

Oh well, if nothing else Ophelia the OG Kush auto on its way, while Octavia is taking its sweet time to break soil. They were planted 3 days ago, so I'll give Octavia another couple of days before trying a new seed.

Looking forward to see another two plants move in in a month - then I'll be back on track with the triple overlapping grow. I need it too, because I admit to having been indulging and it can be seen on my stash. Gave away the harvest from two Northern Lights too. So, there'll be no rest for the wicked!

Yesterday was my 1 year anniversary as a grower! :snowboating:

In that first year I've grown 20 plants, including the current Purple Haze and Blueberry. I have to say quality of life has increased for me; I sleep much better and get up earlier than before, and I can relax and enjoy myself without the expenses and risks of procuring smoke from shady people. The act of growing is also therapeutic in itself, and It's very interesting with lots to learn and experience.

Thank you to all my 420 friends for getting me through year one - you made it easy and fun! :circle-of-love:

Congrats on your 1 year anniversary as a grower! :passitleft::high-five:

I’m with ya about growing. It’s so nice dipping into my own stash instead of paying stupid prices at the dispensaries which is highway robbery. And like you pointed out, don’t have to deal with the occasional shady shits on the street, lol.

Plants are looking great:thumb:

 lots of karma from that one...!

:happy-birthday::party: lets hope this doesn't get as confusing as in Sheds thread. :laughtwo:

Incredible you can still count them, and def after all those who went up in smoke.... :blunt:

-Wonder how many I have grown and smoked through the years...

There is only positive things from this herb and we can only wish the world can except this one day. Here I doubt it very much, the government is too over protective from all those years of socialism and commie ideas of the government taking care of you and guiding you. But as you say this feeds a growing black market of shady organizations who profit very much in the growing numbers of enlightened people who got that Alcohol is the worst drug ever discovered by man.
(Sorry CraZy's mind gets spinning after morning coffee.... ) :nomo:

You have grown a lot since you first showed up here NC and I have been amused by following your work and I really hope for another year of growing beside you. But I think its time for you to move up the ladder with a veg tent now and start to grow Photos. :)

That's a lot better than sitting there with an empty balloon on your shoulders! :laughtwo:

Yeah, it's a shame that we're set to be pariahs for the foreseeable future. I do enjoy some wine or a whisky, but I hate not being in control, so no shit-faced excesses for me - you have to be careful with that stuff indeed. Growing up and seeing the alcohol fueled idiocy, aggression and violence being fully accepted ("oh, but he was drunk after all, so he can't be held responsible...") while the mere suspicion of cannabis would land you straight in the slammer. 'Twas a lesson in societal madness. So the freedom aspect with growing is also a big one - a silent protest that is enjoyable all the way.

Going into the next year, I can say there will be more autos. I'm considering letting the tent empty of autos and then do a photo run at one point (the stash would need to be sizeable first), but I have plenty auto seeds and the one tent going full steam, so the photos will have to wait a little more...

Oh, and I pulled the non germinating OG Kush today and put a new OGK seed in water. It's a bit inconvenient when you get those skewed timings for "sibling" plants - you know, chop together with uneven ripeness or chop a week apart with twice the fuss? But hey, that's the kind of problem I don't mind dealing with :D

Not much happening lately...

The only news here is that the second OG Kush never germinated, so I tried a third that didn't germinate either. Damn time wasters! With the current stunted plants and germination failures it looks so barren in there... I just put another Purple Haze in water which will move into the now vacant OGK bucket. At least I think it's a PH... could be something else, because I may have misplaced a couple of seeds. We'll see in a few days if the grow gets a move on.

Well at least you are trying Cosmos and that's what counts! Sometimes they can be stubborn to get to both germinate and pop through soil. I would strongly recommend you to get a cheap heat mat now for these chilling months ahead, it does wonders for germination and while your at it throw in a pH pen as well so you can do slurry tests of your soil. The cheaper ones are more accurate than one might think. I got one from Adwa some European brand, ordered it from MaxGrowshop in Poland they got super fast and reliable delivers with UPS to your door.

Btw how is your pump sump holding up?

Still no tail on that PH seed.... I have a heated propagator which I'll try for the next round of germination. I also have one of those pH/moisture meters that are everywhere, the green blob with two probes. It's not a precision instrument of course, but it does show 7 for my tap water and reacts to pH up and down (baking soda and lemon). It'll have to do for now, although I don't really bother with pH since my water is neutral and the nutriens are (said to be) pH adjusting...

Yeah, the well is going strong. I tried to seal the little leak with that vulcanizing tape. Not sure how successful that was. I'm done down there for now though - will do a reassessment next summer.

Seen alot of seeds never germinate so this is something that happens from various reasons from time to time. You are well prepared my friend then with both heat mat and pH checker, that meter will due for this no need to get down in decimals when growing in soil like you are. But those slurry tests can tell a lot about how the soil is doing, specially Ghetto soils™ with unknown compositions... lol

Love that vulcanizing tape, use it for lots of things great for taping cable ties together and protecting them from water.

But you got other plants going right?

The Purple Haze did get a tail in the end so I planted it yesterday. Sad thing about the OGKs, but the one that germinated is doing quite well. I have more of those OGK seeds so I may try again later.

As for other plants, I have chilis, tomatoes, Thai and Italian basil, thyme and oregano. All of them have moved indoors, apart from the oregano which truly grows forever like a weed with no requirements for anything. The chilis suffered a little this year since my focus as a first year cannabis grower was all on the proceedings in the tent...

You are a busy gardener man! I have had three tomato plants but they never got mature, they are still just yellow. Had them in the greenhouse but it never gets full blown sunlight in there so guess they should have had more of that. Grown some sweet pepper as well for my spaghetti meat sauce, very delicious.

It's day 61 for the Blueberry Express and day 54 for Pippi II the Purple Haze. Still super tiny, but the PH is at least very trichy and already with some amber even though it's the smallest colas I've seen. It's also crazy dense in both foliage and bud consistency. Smells super good too. The BBE is a bit more normal in cola size but the overall plant remains tiny. I'm used to good growth in flowering, but not with these.

Here's Pippi II - what little smoke she'll produce will be good, I'm sure:

Ophelia the OG Kush that survived is doing fine at day 29 from seed in soil. It's sad that the other two OGK seeds died, because this is what I like to see; a healthy plant of fair size amidst my current bonzais :D

Day_29_Ophelia.JPG

And finally, Phoebe the Purple Haze said hello today! Although she's a month later than the OGK, these are still a pair in my growing schedule:

Day_3_Phoebe.JPG

:goodjob: Shame some didn't make it but that OGK looks happy and healthy. I remember having some purple haze when I was about 15. I ended up perched on the edge of the sofa clinging onto a coffee table for dear life:rofl: I daren't move for about 2 hours.

It's Day 67 for my Bonzai seniors. The Purple Haze is packing on the trichs. The Blueberry express is more average in the trichome department.

So yeah - this is what I've been looking for all along, Pippi II the Purple Haze in all her trichomeratious glory. Really, I'm completely stoked about her as she is looking like the bud shots I'm usually salivating over :yummy: :

While Bettina the Blueberry Express is more normal (yes it's zoomed out a bit more, as I found it pertinent to admire the overall cola rather than focusing on the trichomes for this one ;)) :

The OG Kush has been in training for a week, and she's responding well at day 34:

It's day 73 and 80 for the Purple Haze and the Blueberry Express, so the harvest is nearing.

I've got me one of those cheap USB microscopes no, so I'm snapping trich-pics all day long now... :laughtwo:

And today Arial and Amelia the Amnesia autos broke soil. Hopefully the tent won't look so barren in a couple of months:
