Noob's First Grow: Indoor, Coco, 4 Plants

Just a quick photo today. I did the DAY 21 defol yesterday (a couple of days late). I think it went well, although girls were a little droopy last night. Just all the handling, I guess. They seem to have bounced back nicely, and are enjoying the cool breezes blowing over their nether-regions. :)

Happy Monday, everyone!

Been a while since I did an update here, apologies. Girls have been chugging along in their flowering phase, and I was out of commission for several days in the hospital. I am doing much better, and gals continue to crank!

Today is...
- DAY 116 since germination.
- DAY 41 since flip to 12/12
- DAY 37 since first pistils sighted

I am pretty darn pleased with them! Nice tuffs of pistils continue to pop out all up and down the stems, and white trichs crusting up the sugar leaves well. I think the new LEDs from a couple of months ago are penetrating the canopy pretty well, as buds are doing down pretty deep.

Feel pretty good about the climate. The big dehumidifier is keeping things in the 40-45% range when lights are on, and 45-50% when lights are off. Temp is consistently in the 70-80F range. Lots of small oscillating fans are keeping the air moving well. Ive been keeping the lower canopy open for air circulation, and have done only a little defoliation this morning to clear paths for light to reach in. Starting on Monday, I will be flipping out the Kool Bloom liquid for the powder, and that will up the P and K even more. (Flora Micro and Bloom, Terpinator, and Big Bud are also in the mix in different ratios from one day to another).

Man are they ever drinking! Of course some of it is evaporation given the lower humidity, but I have to really push it to get a few drops of run off. Not going for a flood of run off, but enough to know that the coco is completely saturated, and no pockets are drying out and burning roots.

Here are some photos!

So I am pretty pleased. I do hope that these buds will thicken/fatten up, and fill in the gaps between one node to the next, but we shall see want they want to do.

Have a great weekend everyone! Happy Canada Day to my fellow northerners.

That's what happens the last week or 2. That's why you need to be patient and only go by the trichomes.

Got it! Yes, I got a cheap little USB microscope that I used on the Purple Kush to see when it was ready. I think I am 4+ weeks out on these gals, at least, so I haven't even started checking trichs yet. Thank you.

Nice chunky nugs, they will produce well.

Thanks Penny. The Green Crack and the Trainwreck have been really easy to grow. The GSC is always the fussy one - too much nute, not enough nute, back and forth. High maintenance princess. :)

GSC can be a pain, Trainwreck should be a good game one.

I took a few cuttings from the Trainwreck a while back, just because I liked the way she was growing, and I only had the one seed. One clone is still chugging along. I am thinking that I will turn it into a bonsai mother and tuck it out of the way with low lights 18/6 to "hibernate" for a long long time. Not going to blossom her for a while - excited to try some other things before repeating her. Might throw her into flower in the spring. Flight pattern is full until then. Plus, just wanted to try cloning to see how it worked.

Or, I might just give the clone away. LOL.

I’m going to start keeping small mothers if they’re special plants.

I like that idea. What I think of as special is definitely going to change as I grow different cultivars, which is part of the fun and learning curve!

On a different note, Penny, another fellow mentioned in the Chem Comparison thread something about a "JJ strain" that he was going to grow. Would you mind explaining what that means? Just curious - it must be some special heirloom variety or something? I know that cultivar knowledge is one of your areas of expertise.

It was @bobrown14 and "JJ 91 Star."

“JJ” and “AJ” were growers in NYC back in the 90’s they got Chemdog 91 from the source in a trade. They renamed it Original Diesel. Then a friend of there’s called Weasel had a Mass Super Skunk hermie and pollinated a Chemdog and that’s where Sour Diesel came to be. JJ is still growing and breeding as Top Dawg Seeds. The strain Bob mentioned was bred by JJ.

Your knowledge of the history of the different cultivars is truly impressive, thank you for sharing!
