Non-Stop Deficiency Battle - Pics

Villiage, is the man! First thing i thought when i saw the pics from speed scrolling was cal issue due to bad ph. I'm still a newbie grower but one of the first things I learned when encountering deficiencies in hydro or passive hydro, soiless etc. was to do a ph run. In my mind, it didn't seem logical to pump more nutes in when I believed I had all the essential nutes in the right ratios for healthy growth. It wasn't until I let go of the idea of having an exact Ph set number and let 'er drift in the comfort zone, things started to flourish. Again, I'm in hempys 100% perlite so....

yeah he's definitely a great help but thats whats fuckin with me, because my ph stays stable at 5.9, it doesn't move at all and i don't touch it but I'm flooding 6 times a day now so ill see how that works out. i still don't know wtf is causing my new growth to be a reddish color though

So the next thing then to question is ...is your measurement method working? It almost sounds too good to be true...that usually means it is. Go get some cheapo pH test strips and confirm.

It you are referring to red stems...in general that is a response to artificial lighting.

Most people just PM me a link. Copy from the URL the page you want me to go to, click on my name and send me a PM.

I am very busy in my own grow tonight but maybe in a few hours I can get to it.

Also hey take those test strips and test that rooting medium 10 min after drain and 10 min before flood.
i upped the floods to every 4 hours, floods for 5min and drains in 5min. my ph is at 5.8 now, i added lucas 5-10 lucas formula on friday which put the ppm at 760 and topped the res monday afternoon (with r.o water only) which put the ppm at 700. i also calibrated my ph (hanna phep5 and bluelab ppm meter) and they've both been on point. still feel like my growth is slow as fuck though

Well very sorry to hear that but it sounds like you are misunderstanding us. If the problem is the medium is not drying out then you want to increase the time between floods not shrink it.

Also sounds like you haven't tested the medium.

There are a lot of things that stunt growth. It is hard to say based on what you have given us. At least I aint smart enough to do anything but list off a ton of maybe scenarios and that is just a waste of time.

If you can get the test strips and measure that rooting medium that isn't drying out that will help but if you just don't want to do it then all I can recommend is brewing up a good Microbial tea and inoculating the grow medium to clean out any problems in there.

What do the roots look like? What is the res temp during flood?

What is the room temp? What is the Room humidity?

yeah i ended up rereading after i posted and put the floods back to every 6 hours. the new growth is green with slight yellow tips (the entire stem system on the NL is purple) . someone mentioned to me it could be the roots giving me a problem too from the rapid rooter staying wet from the floods (at the beginning the wet rapid rooters helped) so i lowered the flood levels so the RR could dry out. one thing i have noticed is out of all 4 plants i can only see a few roots (on the bigger AK48) at the bottom of the pot so been thinking it really probably is a root problem. i was also recommended a tea called heisenberg tea (perhaps it was you that mentioned it?) but no i haven't had a chance to get strips yet to test it, I'm going to try tonight though, i hope they sell them at target or petsmart. but the roots at the bottom don't have the white hairs i know that, its hard to get pics but ill post some pics. the temp of the water in the tray when its flooding is 68 and 65 in the res itself. room temp swings from 73-79 and i have a humidifier but the humidity still stay from like 35/40% to 60/65% max. I'm posting pics of only the bigger ak48s roots and pics of the plant under a regular light. idk why the pics are posted sideways, sorry

That is the problem. I think you just nailed it!

Keep the flood table down below the RR for sure. Roots want air anyway.

Your deficiencies are likely due to undersized root mass. Same thing happens in soil grows. One of the main reasons to let soil dry out between watering is to stimulate root growth. If you over water then the plant doesn't need to grow an abundance of roots. You can quickly have a a root system that is undersized for the above ground plant. That can cause a whole host of problems. I bet you are suffering a similar fate.

Your root system can't keep up with the plant needs.

Good luck man...But for sure, no matter what, the table MUST be below any rooting medium that retains water.
