...do you know how much longer I should wait until I try to clone the PE myself?
In order to clone successfully, you will need a shoot to use as a cutting. The minimum length that I would consider for a cutting is 3" - anything shorter and there just isn't enough there to work with, IMO.
So you can clone anytime after you have shoots that are a minimum of 3" long.
Because the clone assumes the maturity of the mother - it matters when you take the cutting. If you take the cutting early in veg, then the clone will start out it's life early in veg. If you take the cutting right before the plant enters the flowering tent - then the cuttings will be ready to enter the flowering tent whenever you get adequate size. This is one of the major advantages of clones - they can be sexually mature at any size (within reason).
I have also taken cuttings while the plants are in the flowering tent - but have had success only during the first three weeks. Probably my issue, not an issue with cloning while the plant is flowering.
