So is it true I shouldnt see alot of runoff though? Because I find if I let it really dry out I get quite a bit of runoffMinimal water isn't really the key but the secret is to just let it dry out in between waterings
You are watering too fast then. A significant amount of runoff is not inevitable. It is totally possible to slowly water right up to the point that runoff starts to happen, and then stop. It has nothing to do with the dryness of the soil, it has to do with your watering method and how fast you are dumping water in there. Additionally, if the soil has become very dry, it has contracted and pulled away from the edges of the container. The first water poured in there might easily sneak down the sides and out as runoff. The solution to this is to pour just a little bit of water all around the surface. Relax and smoke half a joint. Then come back and add a bit more water, maybe twice as much as you used the first pass. Smoke the rest of the joint. After this, the initial water should have soaked in a bit and expanded some of the soil so the sneaky paths down the sides no longer exist. Slowly water some more, taking little breaks while you watch surface water soak in. Keep watering in small amounts until you start to see runoff. At this point stop. Go watch a TV program and come back in an hour or so, and give a bit more water, just until runoff starts. The water you just added was not just water that finally found a place to get absorbed, but also water that the plant used while you watched TV. When the plants get bigger, it will amaze you how much they can drink in an hour.So is it true I shouldnt see alot of runoff though?
