1 to 3 is what ive researched. Also just watched a few videos, they said to use .5lb of spawn to 1lb of substrate. But ill probably experiment a lil, but stay close to those parameters. I dont know if it really matters, might affect yields, but i think theyll grow in how much ever we use.How much substrate do you think I should use? A 1:2 ratio of spawn to substrate?

I've learned to use a minimum of 3" to keep the shrooms from falling over as they grow larger. I did some with under 2" of substrate in shoe boxes and had trouble with them being stable enough in the small amount of substrate.1 to 3 is what ive researched. Thats good to know. Maybe i can find something slightly smaller than a shoebox to get it at least 3 inches high. I could see where that could be a problem.I've learned to use a minimum of 3" to keep the shrooms from falling over as they grow larger. Any advice I when to shake?
I would wait a bit yet. At approx. 50% mycelium coverage. Just my humble point of view.Penis Envy

Good mycelium growth. Time to break and shake.
Yea about 4 days ago.midwestgrowkits.com/guides has a bunch of good info. There's hours of info on youtube as well, of varying quality.
Have you done the smash-n-mix to the grain bag yet, @SinSemillaWhisperer420 ? The mycelium will cover all the grain a week or two after the smash-n-mix that spreads the mycelium throughout the grain.
I add it to substrate once the mycelium in the bag has covered the spawn again after shake and break. As Becca said, about a week. When does everyone @BeccaBuds @Lady Cannafan add their spawn bag to substrate? Also how do u do it, just mix it in?
Thanks so much for the valuable information.I add it to substrate once the mycelium in the bag has covered the spawn again after shake and break. As Becca said, about a week.
When adding to the substrate, break it up well while mixing it in a sterile environment and sterile gloves. Have it evenly distributed all through the substrate.
Last time I did the shoebox, I mixed the spawn/substrate and then put a top layer of substrate about 1/4" thick. This supposedly protects the spawn, but I found it helped me see when the mycelium was starting to spread on top easier.
Don't confuse top layer with casing layer though. Casing layer is something different.
I found the guides and learning 101 at Midwest Grow Kits very helpful, and the videos from Philly Golden Teacher.
A review I did on Midwest Grow Kits was posted to the homepage here just yesterday. It was held up for quite awhile due to unforeseen circumstances, but it's there now. They aren't currently on the sponsor list, but I'm hoping we get them back soon.
Midwest Grow Kits Featuring The Mushroom Ecosphere 3.0
When I first decided to trip into cultivating Psilocybin mushrooms, my main concern was that I would not be able to achieve the correct environmental conditions in my home. I needed to be sure I could keep the proper humidity, temperatures, and air flow. The Mushroom Ecosphere 3.0 system by...www.420magazine.com
