Must The Water Always Be Dechlorinated?

Thanks mate.. im usually always the solo lobo

and you are an expert. try this in a newbie's shoes :peace::love:

You know when somebody makes that one comment and you think, yeah yeah but... doh, yeah"

So is the point of Grizzwalds comments...is that chlorine does not kill off soil microbes? And if so, it would be great to link some science that explains it.

Everything I’ve come across says chlorinated water will kill off microbes. And at the price of microbes, I’d really rather not take chances with wasting them, or losing their benefits.

Please feel free to clarify!

Jesus....What a trainwreck this turned into. I feel sorry for the OP. What do y'all think chlorine is put into water for? To kill bacteria so you dont get sick. Good or bad bacteria, chlorine don't give a shit.

Tap water will not kill off your entire heard of microbes and your plants will grow deliciously, was my point.. I'm assuming your tap water is drinkable and doesn't smell like a swimming pool.. a little intelligence is required, you know. I'm not saying to add chlorine to your nutrients,if that's the point, your trying to make me out, to make, lol

I wonder why I have never seen a complete grow with all UNPROCESSED nutrients that all need to be broken down by microbes before the plant can uptake them done perfectly with untreated chlorinated water.....Without chelated nutrients I dont think there would be a chance.

outdoors count? but I guess contaminated with rain water.. and liquid kelp and Gogo juice also get used couple times early.
probably cause one going to such lengths, are going to follow each step and make most of their process and time.. just a thought..

My tap water is 18ppm, but has 1.3mg/L of chlorine in it, as I live in close proximity to a dosing station. My understanding was, that feeding with chlorinated water would kill the microbes that my voodoo juice adds to my medium, or atleast hamper their growth.

I don’t doubt that the plant will indeed grow without added microbes. But I certainly don’t want to negate the positive effects they can bring, when I’ve taken the effort to add them intentionally!

I know plants do require some chlorine. But I’m willing to bet they don’t naturally drink 1.3mg/L of it.

I’d love someone to convince me otherwise. Because it’s a lot of extra effort dealing with its removal. And if it really has no effect, I’d be pretty stoked!

Here's the deal.
Will chlorine or Chloramine completely kill off your microbes, fungus and etc?
Not completely no, even my horrible tap water which is 1.5 ml chlorine and 2.7ml of Chloramine wouldn't completely kill off the microbes.
But so phucking what.
Why the hell would you want to kill ANY off?
I dump at least an average of a gallon a day on each pot and I keep my soil very moist as you should with LOS no-till.
Why in the hell would I pour any antibacterial into my bacteria.
Why would I super oxygenate my water with my mycorrhazae inoculate and let it sit in chlorinated water?

If you're bottle feeding then it makes little to no difference if you use chlorinated water because the nutrients are coming out of a bottle mostly.
If you rely completely on your mycorrhazae herd to feed your plants then it does make a difference, wont completely sterilize your soil but certainly isnt going to help any.

So if you have the option to use totally dechlorinated water then why wouldn't you even if it only helps a little bit.
I want my soil as alive as possible and I take great care in achieving that symbiosis between my soil and my plant.
Dumping a freaking gallon of chlorinated water especially as bad as mine is onto my microbe herd everyday just doesn't seem conducive to that goal to me.

So I will err on the side of caution and simply and easily use RO water as my blank slate that I add what I want in it.

My tap is highly chlorinated. My plants look fine to me.Growing in living soil..PNG

Dudes hurt my head. Nobody telling you to stop what works for you, just trying to clear it up a little.. and yes for new growers, who read it and suddenly think they gotta get Ro water filters etc

Kind of funny, I have read a few statements that say if in hydro you should dechlorinate the water . I run a perpetual in an ebb and grow system ( buckets) not a flooded table and will drain, clean, refill and mix the nutrients about an hour before my plants are fed every other Sunday. Zero issues with straight tap water to the plants. Current stuff is in my Signature.
Peace OG
I don’t even let my water sit that long, I fill a 10 gallon trash can in my tub and dump that in a couple times when I’m doing my nute change.. I also run bleach in my system, no living bacteria in my buckets, nice and white roots, healthy plants, my grow is in my signature as well

citing something like this which pertains only to outdoor soil conditions is disingenuous and not at all helpful to a community consisting of mostly indoor closed container growers.
Using chlorinated water in a closed container WILL kill microorganism populations. You guys arguing over a minor point as to whether it will kill ALL of the microbes or not, seemingly just to make yourselves look knowledgeable, while in the process making a new member feel unwelcome in her own thread, is not at all what this community is about. I hope you had fun with this nonsense.

@RookieJuana, please don't let these guys intimidate you and you just keep asking good questions when they come to mind... we don't mind. :peace::love:
