MI noob trying some DWC

@Pennywise everywhere I read in DWC set ups, people are changing the water every week. Is that due to plants just using up a lot of water and harder to mix-in some nutes to water to top them off? Or Does water with nutrients go bad after a week?

Just wondering.

No but after plant drinks for a week or so you can’t tell how much nutes are still in the water. Also it helps keep to clean the system

Makes sense. Any advice on leaving the plants unattended for a 13 days? I have an unavoidable vacation around week 15-20 of my grow.

I hooked everything last night to run some tests with the whole set up and I have the following data this morning:

RH: 16-30% with 24% as average
Inside tent temp: 68-70F
Water temp: 68F
Tap water PH: 7.2
kWH power usage: 405 Watts

I was hoping the tent temp was going to go up with the LEDs on all night but it doesn't look like it did. I will keep it running all day today and see if it goes higher. The basement keeps a good average temp but not warm enough for these plants I think.

Should I get small heater and/or humidifier to get these temps up or do they tend to go up once plants start growing? I am assuming during seed germination to first weeks of seedling I want those closer to 80F or is that too much?

What do you guys think?

Hello everyone, finally decided to sign up after reading a lot of grow journals and seeing the great community feedback.

Now that it is legal to grow here in Michigan I am going to try to grow some at home. I am not going all crazy but want to keep consistency, log results and have fun with it.

Set up will be 4x4 indoor tent. Carbon scrubber and inline fan, LED lights for veg and flowering, DWC with single 5gallon buckets. GH Flora Series nutrients with some addition of hydroguard.

I was inspired by a fellow member's grow journal by the name of scoooter to get this set up going and grow some.

I am sure I will have questions along the way and will set up a different thread for grow journal but my first question that I have is:

Does anybody know of a product like growboss that constantly logs PH, water temp, tent temp/moisture that can be either accessed online or Bluetooth to download the files? I don't want to break the bank but would like to keep track of these measurements through out the grow and import those to excel.

Thanks for all the help in advance!

Welcome Dro, good peeps here and lot's of help available.
Good to see another member.
Enjoy!
