MegeBudz First Grow

Subbed and watching. I just bought the Mars II 1200 for my tent so I watch with baited breath.

Everything is still going great... just having a tough time getting some halfway decent pictures taken. Obviously I am going to need to get the wife out there! lol

Out of the six clones we lost all but two of them and even those two although rooted, don't look so hot. I am in the middle of building a separate ebb and flow system for those and perhaps a couple seeds of Lemon Haze to get us started again here once the current grow is finished.

Still need to get the woman out there.. But I managed to snap these tonight

Quick pic although at this point it seems like the same one over and over again

Here is the new ebb and flow starter area I just created

Was going to test it out tonight... took the spare new pump I had from before I got into this and started getting it set up.. then looked at the box.. 660GPH.... ummmm nope lol. Going to stop by the hydro place up there street tomorrow on my way home from work and pick up a 70GPH. Good thing I did not have the right diameter tubing to hook it up.. that was the only thing that slowed me down enough for me to look at the box :icon_roll

On the clone front... put the second to last one out of its misery tonight... last one doesn't look to hot so the wife started a couple Lemon Haze, Sour Diesel and some "God knows what" seeds today. Also picked up some rapid rooter plugs today to try instead of the rockwool. Although it seemed to work.. it definitely grew algae quite easily and I think that was part of the reason why some of my herbs did not start.

May have my first issue here... but perhaps not.

I went out last night to check on the girls and found that some of the leaves on one of the plants are starting to turn yellow and some leaves are cupped. The bulk of what I am seeing is on old growth and towards the top... although some smaller leaves on the backside of the plant and further down appear cupped. This was the same plant that I had to tie down the top since it was getting too close to the LEDs. Temperature in the room has been topping out at about 85/86 with humidity around 61%. I am on the last couple of days of this batch of nutrients and other than water and pH Up I have added nothing else. Double checked to make sure that the tube supplying water was OK and all of the basic checks and everything seems fine. PPM is sitting at about 1000 and pH is usually 5.0 when I go out there after the lights click on and when I top off the reservoir and add pH up it is sitting between 5.8 and 6.0. Again.. it is only the one plant.. the other two look great!

I did a bit of reading last night and the first thing I thought could be the issue would be the heat and the lights.. so I went out and redirected the fan above the door to point more directly at the plants.. and re-aimed the oscillating fan to ensure that the plant having issues was getting more air.

This weekend when I change out the nutes I will be taking the entire system off of the wooden stand it is on and placing it on some stacked cement pavers on the floor to not only get them further from the light, but also get them closer to the cooler air near on the cement slab.

Any other ideas?

You can see some of the yellowing of the leaves of the one plant:

And with the LEDs on you can definitely see the difference in the "greens" of the leaves:

And on a happier note:

I am finding that each night when I test the pH it has always dropped down to about 5.3-5.4 So each night I add a couple of milliliters of pH Up to the reservoir and retest an hour or so later and it is back up to 5.7 or 5.8. Is this normal to have the water become more acidic due to concentration of nutes and waste as the water is consumed and evaporates? I've retested my pH meter a couple of times to ensure its accuracy so I kind of assumed this was to be expected?

Your nutrient strength is slightly too strong and your plant is drinking more water then nutrients leaving a higher nutrient concentration and lower pH. I would slightly reduce your nutrient concentration and attempt to find a sweet spot where your pH will remain most stable at pH 5.8.

I start off with 6 gallons of water and the nutrients are at about 900PPM (which is what GH recommends). It drops near a gallon per day due to (what I thought was) the plants, heat, 60% humidity, two fans running across a partially open reservoir and two bubblers running inside the reservoir. Losing that much water a day I would imagine that the concentration would increase but I hear what you are saying. I will be changing out the nutrients today and I will drop them back a bit and see how that goes.

Thanks!

OK.. so tonight I took the VersaGrow off of the wooden stand it was on and put it on a few stacks of pavers effectively dropping it about 14-16 inches away from the lights. Drained the old nutes and added 5 gallons of distilled water and the FloraMicro, Bloom and Grow doses for the 5 gallons of water... then added another gallon of water to dilute it further putting the pH at around 6.0 and the PPM at around 800.

Got the rest of the homemade ebb and flow system set up and ready for the new plants... all I need to do now is wait for the seeds to germinate a lil more and off on another grow!

Did a two step flush today by drenching each of the plants with water and Botanicare Clearex with a 10 minute pause between drenchings. Once that was done I emptied the reservoir and wiped it down twice with a towel soaked in the flushing agent as well. Filled the reservoir back up with 6 gallons of distilled and rainwater with 12t of Clearex to flush for the next 7-10 days.

Since I have quite possibly three different strains, I have three different set of buds and different stages of development. If my timing works out right (which I am pretty sure it will just based on trichome inspection, I should have a good mix of buds between the three plants which will hopefully give the wife the variations she needs throughout the day.

"Unfortunately" while moving the reservoir around I had a slight casualty.

Not to worry though.. it came it to be trimmed and put into the vape. If this is what it is like now... then wow.. cannot wait until we cure it up some properly.

While out there I attended to the seedlings as well... had one pop through the surface of the rapid rooter tonight.. will expect to see more tomorrow.

Hey bro, you may be jumping the gun a bit with initiating the flush. Judging by your latest pics, my opinion is that you need to wait around another three weeks. You still have white pistils on the top buds and little or no calyx swell.

Your pistils (hairs) will be much shorter as the calyxes engorge themselves. (The hairs will be much shorter looking).

Just my two cents and all. It's been said that 30% of the final weight occurs during the last two weeks of flowering. That seems to hold true to my personal experience. I bought a little $5 30X magnifier and check the trichomes. That's always the best route.

:bravo:

Yeah that was what I was thinking too but after looking at the trichomes through our 40x I can see that on the one plant most of them are milky white and on the other two they are half and half. I had planned on letting them go for at least another two weeks as I had just changed out the nutes a few days prior. The only loupe we had was a small 10x so it was kind of hard to see anything in detail... once the 40x showed up though we could get a better look.

The difference between the plants is my fault I guess for using bag seed and not knowing what I had... the one plant is about two to three weeks ahead of the others and they were started at the same time!

I was hoping for larger buds but will take what I can get for my first grow. :skeptical:
