Hello MacMota, Thanks for dropping in and giving me that positive smoke report. I've tasted only an early bud (OK, but not long lasting). and a couple of quick dry bowls of some earlier samples (a waste). I've got the very top of one of my colas drying right now (just day 2) but I can't wait! It was a little early for me with only 20-30 percent amber. Like a said earlier, I'll be taking a little at a time to get different smokes. I read through your grow and KannabisKid's and was waiting for a smoke report from him after his cure? Happy New Year to ya, MacMota!
Got me thinking. I usally cut at 20-30% amber. Work from home so it makes good day weed. Maybe this time I'll let one plant go and compare. Nice to have an assortment from one grow!

Yeah, Kid disappeared after he finished his grow.
Guess it musta been some good stuff. Once you let it dry properly and let it cure some, you'll be pleased. We quick dried some but it was just 'okay'.If you have any questions, let me know. It's an obscure strain and not many people grow it.

Well MostlyCrazy a lot has happened in the last couple hours! I had been examining the plant with the Radio Shack microscope very closely. I checked all areas of the plant and was shocked to see some calyxes and leaves in the 40 to even 60 percent amber range! These were mostly in the tops and as I worked my way down lower on the branches the amber trichs were closer to 20 to 30 percent. I hadn't planned on harvesting the other tops this soon. Yesterday I chopped the one top and figured they were all about the same. Wrong! As you know it is not an exact science. The ratio of amber trichs can vary from one area to the next. Well I went ahead and chopped the remaining 4 tops since I was looking for 40 percent or so as my target. On three of the four remaining tops I removed only the tops and the fourth one I removed just about an entire branch.
Note. There were still areas on these tops that had some newer growth and had maybe only20 percent amber trichs. But the avg. was about 40 percent. Glad I did a thorough check or I could have gone overripe!
I've still got all the undergrowth remaining and that is not yet ready. I'll be checking it more thoroughly though. I'll post some photos of the tops I removed today and the remaining undergrowth. The bud on the left of the first group shot is the one day old from yesterday. It has shrunk considerably in that short time! Also with my undergrowth shots you get a little view of my tent, LOL. Well it works!

Hey MacMota, Just posted above, check it out. As you can see I've been busy this afternoon and evening. Thanks for the encouragement on the smoke. Too bad we didn't get the cured/smoke report from Kid. The Mazar Afghan was the 'free' seeds (5) from MSNL along with my Northern Lights that I bought. That will be next for me. The wife is not a happy camper with this endeavor, unfortunately. It's been a battle every time and this is my first indoor grow since we've been married (15 yrs). I've been forced to grow outdoors on the back porch and that is always a battle! We don't get too many visitors out here but she is super paranoid. She is a 'sometimes' smoker and then she'll get a bug up her *ss and lay off it for awhile till I catch here at a weak point and she'll have a puff! Oh well such is married life. I had been single till I was 38 and got quite used to doing things when and how I wanted. So If I don't grow, you'll know who won that battle!
Yes, I've found with the mazar and pretty much any skunk cross that they get ripe in a hurry at the end. That's why when the go 20-30? I cut for fear of overripe. When I do it I cut the whole plant and I seperate the top colas and use them for the banging high and uderbuds become my daytime smoke. I've also found that the small underbud has a lot of resin, sometimes more than the tops like they did their own and also got dusted from above. Maybe the side lights help. My buddy actually like the underbud better because he can control it better and get the exact high he wants. Together we become mad scientist and try to tune in something for the occation. Laying around the house we blast outself into oblivion but if we are going out to watch some sports and mingle we lighten up with the small ones and just giggle and wobble alot. I am going to let 1 plant out of the 4 I'm growing not to get 50 about 40-50% and see if that increases the wobble factor.

I figure about 1/3 of wet weight = dry weight and I'm not off more than a gram or two per oz. but remember I gow hydro and your milage may vary.

for some reason it seems that my hydro grows loose about 10% more weight dry than my soil grows.. dont know why though

Your right about the trichs maturing fast at the end. It was like watching a clock move up till the other day. I've been waiting for the plant to mature since about the 8th week. In fact I started a flush at that time only to re-fertilize at 9 weeks when I didn't see any ripening. At 10 weeks I started the flush again and was able to water once more since. I'll be watching the rest of the plant like a hawk now,lol.
MostlyCrazy, do you have a grow journal in progress now? If not what are you growing?
I won't be cutting this one down as I'm going to regenerate it. I'll leave a few little buds on the bottom in place and put the plant back in veg along with some NL. If I can sneak it by the wife! She's already asking if I'm done with this one yet like she's about to pull the plug on me when I am! URG!
No journal because I don't post pictures. Wife says that would freak her out somehow and I KNOW you know what I mean. No use fighting city hall when she is happy with the fruits of my labor and lets me spend at will on her medicine. Bipolar girl (what I grow really helps her stay close to the middle more than the pharmiceutical she's on). Kind of fun if you like to take a ride and never leave the house!
Right now I have 4 fem - Barney's Farm - can't type the name because it refers to the medicine that Timothy Leary used in excess and it gets x'd out but it starts with L and ends with D and there is an S in the middle ( Mazar and Skunk cross). I have two plants per 6 gallon res ( I have 3 res) and 2 plants fill my 2x4 grow space in one area and I have another res farther back in the closet with two more of those and one res next to that with 1 Sannie Jack(overall power) and 1 Pandora's Box (big up strain). I'm 3 1/2 weeks into 12/12 and things are going just fine. My Mazar cross is usually finished in 8 weeks with the 30% amber. I'd think that 9 weeks should be enough time to get it to 50% on one plant as I will cut 3 when 30%. The Pandora's Box is a 10 week strain and the Sannie Jack is 10-13 weeks so I'll be harvesting about every two weeks starting in early Feb.

She didn't like the prices around here and knew I was much easier to live with when I was high. I had a quintuple bypass about 3 years ago, lost 70 lbs, am healthy again and can move heavy things and perform all needed tasks! LOL!

Wow, sounds like some very 'select' smoke! You've definitely got a system going for ya. LOL about your lady! Life would be so much simpler ............. Anyway, Glad to hear your on the mend. That's some serious stuff you've gone through. You really need the MJ!

I talked my wife into this indoor grow. I've mentioned my desire to regrow (along with the NL) and so far all I get is "you know how I feel about it" stuff!

When it comes to smoke, well..... I usually get my way, but it's not like I get any encouragement or anything. I get the silent treatment for awhile! I always say the same thing. When you met me, you knew I was a big time toker and that it was one of my 'simple enjoyments'! Silence.........
You will come to value that silence over time. I've been married 36 years. LOL!

Reveg and give her half the proceeds. Maybe use her as a mother. Do you know why she objects?

I did a comparison with hydro vs. soil using the mazar strain. The hydro was done much faster than the soil, which I am at ten weeks now for the soil and hydro was done in 8 1/2 weeks. check out the pics of the hydro.

Nice crop DanNkboY101! Way to go. What kind of lights are you using for the grow? What percentage of amber trichs do you like for harvest?
