Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

I would get the reflector series , having two of those will give you good coverage. Those 1600w are nice and cover a big area , but I think you going the right direction in getting another reflector.

I agree. I think two 96x5, or two 144x5 will beat any Mars 2 light that is comparable in wattage to the two reflectors together. It's not about light intensity, it's about light coverage.
I think the reflector series are the best lights Mars Hydro has. They use less led's and are longer in length, which makes them run cooler.
Alot of the higher priced led grow lights have adopted this theory I believe.
BML spyder has a 600w fixture that measures 36x36, uses 3w led's with a lens to increase the par value and has a total power consumption of 330w at the wall. Your whole 3x3 area would fully be covered with a even par all the way across. Also they are only using 5 bands. 2-red, 2-blue, and white 6500k.

All this Led Lights is new to me. Learning as I go along and watching a lot of YouTube on Co2 and self enclosed rooms.

He, sorry didn't want to come across like a knowitall :) We're also pretty new to growing, it's amazing what you learn in a year, not only lights, also watering, nutes, pests, temps etc...it's crazy how involved this can get but of course it's fun and exciting :)

Well that first Mars II grow I did left me with so much bud, even after giving half of it away, that I needed to find something to do with it. I am not a big smoker, so I decided to make some cannabutter. So here is my first Mars II butter attemp with 8 sticks of butter and what I eyeballed to be about 2 ounces of nice buds.

How long do you guys simmer the butter to decarboxylate and convert the THCA to THC? It was getting late last night so I only let it simmer for about 45 minutes after I added the chopped buds to the butter. I figure the buds were almost already dry so the shorter time should be OK. But I might go back and remedy the butter and let it cook for another hour or so.

Do not use Soy Lecithin. Use Sunflower. There are many bad side effects that you can get from soy. I use 1T sunflower lecithin for each cup of base (butter, coconut oil VG ). :peace:

I'd like to see some credible pieces of evidence against soy being harmful. I've been entirely plant based (vegan) for the last 4 years and have researched it exhaustively after being questioned about it and have found the results to be the exact opposite. Soy-food consuming populations of people, like the Chinese and Japanese, have a much lower incidence of heart disease, osteoporosis, and cancer of the breast and prostate. Many researchers have come to the conclusion that ingredients in the soybean have anticancer, antihypertensive, and anti-cholesterol benefits.

"Breast cancer survivors who eat soy foods, for example, have a significantly lower likelihood of cancer recurrence. A 2012 review looked at the three studies done to date on the link between soy and breast cancer survival. It showed that women who ate the most soy had a 29% lower risk of dying from breast cancer and a 36% lower risk of cancer recurrence. A fourth study has since been published that reaffirms these results. With an average intake of soy phytonutrients above 17 mg/day—the amount found in about a cup of soymilk—the mortality of breast cancer may be reduced by as much as 38%."

There are many people on this site smarter then me. I have been told by Cajuncelt (and found more info by googling difference between soy and sunflower Lecithin) that Sunflower is the safer type to use. I cannot give you proof myself. I do know that it greatly increases the bioavailability of the bud. I have made VG tincture with the same bud with and without lecithin and there is no comparison. With is much stronger. :peace:

I do mind on the stove top, I never let the butter temp above 175 degrees F I use a thermometer made to like into meat to check the internal temp of the meat. Let it go for about an hour to hour and a half stirring every ten min or so. Mine stays almost on the lowest setting on my stove. Usually nice dark greenish brownish color when done and will knock the socks off Ya.

I'll have to read more about the various lechtins available too see what's the best to use. All the fear mongering about soy is usually based on misinterpreted data or they will take certain isolates from the whole food and increase the dosages sky high to get negative results. People also like to worry about the hormones from phytoestrogens but they seem to have an overall positive affect on humans, what people really need to worry about is all the high doses of mammalian estrogen in cheese, dairy and meat.

I'll need to make a journal for my cabinet build and first attempt at cannabis. I'm hoping to have a few pots of leafy greens growing in there too to supplement my diet with fresh greens throughout the long cold winters. I received (3) 144x5 reflectors from Sara the other day. Waiting for my high brix kit from Doc Bud to "cook". 25 days till I can start popping seeds :( it'll allow me to fine tune and finish the last few things that need to be built at least. I've got a 3.5'x3.5'x6.5' flower chamber and a 3.5'x2'x6.5' veg side that I'll most like split horizontally making 2 separate veg chambers, bottom one being 4' tall and the top being 2.5' tall.

Here's a pic of it currently:
