Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

I have a MarsHydro Reflector96 in a 2.5 x 2.5 x 5 tent. I have three quick questions that I would really appreciate help with.

With the height of the light, I am currently in veg and have the light 18in away as specified on the marshydro site. Can I move it closer to get more light, or would that cause light stress?

For light cycles, I currently have the light on 24/0 but I read that doing 20/4 or 18/6 can be beneficial to root development of the plants. Which light cycle is the best? I am doing high pressure aeroponics, if that affects how much I want to prioritize root development.

I currently have both the veg and bloom switches on as I read that you get the best growth if you have both switches on the entire grow. I just want to double check that this is accurate.

Thank you.

Yeah veg I would lower it another 4 inches wouldn't hurt if you see tip s go brown back off light . Or do test. Feel heat from light under wrist then back off 4-6 inches . It was a rule of thumb. But I don't follow Mar hydro. It's a guideline more. How many plants you have under it? Eithier way that light is enough. Where did you get seeds?

Yes your doing it right. Ask away we all are here to help one another. I'm learning as well third grow but so much helpful links and great people on here. Light cycle of auto grow is a biased descession is coming from you grow entire grow 12/12 autos. I stick to 20/4 18/6 let have lots of light for vege to grow and some tone for roots to develop at night. Hope that helps

The only thing that I'm afraid of is that I read it takes weeks for the damage from LEDs being too close to become visisble. I have 2 plants, AK48 that I got from Nirvana.

Autos crossbred with ruderalis usually 10% genetic material, they have apparently been found in areas where you have midnight sun and was in good health. That would make it a safe assumption that you could feed more light to your plants without compromising its evolution. The trick is to find the sweetspot that works best in your growspace and your personal preferences of how you want your plant to grow. It will grow if you keep it happy and the rest is all speculation hehe. I run 24/0 until first set of 5 leafes show then I found 18/6 works best as it kind of matches the climate where I live so temperature raises and lowers in synchronisation with that the lights goes on/off and creates a better and more natural grow space. :)

I always used veg only for the first twoo weeks. After two weeks i introduce full spectrum.
18/6 is the best for veg and 12/12 for bloom. Plants need to rest too.
You can also do 16/8 for veg and 13/11 for bloom.

:circle-of-love:Thanks for your support,i'm glad to hear that.:cheer::cheer:
I would recommend you go with the Mars Pro II Epistar80.Mars Pro II series are the best light among our lights so far, with better built-up:upgraded chips, driver, has vents all around the panel,it run cooler than other lights. Also have better light intensity. And with the U-connector,you can connect more lights later(no electric connection).:high-five:
But may i know when do you want to get the light? The Mars Pro II series didn't arrive at our international warehouse yet.:Namaste:

Thanks for the reply Sara. What is the actual coverage of the epistar 80?
The brochure says 3x3, the site tells me 1,5x1,5 and 2,5x2,5 as well. Im a bit confused here?
I only want 1 light in my tent to manage the heat so this is why the coverage and penetraion has to be good well balanced.
Must say, the epistar looks very sleek and sexy :goodjob: Had my attention from the beginning hence the upgrade (as well)

Hay Flammable99, I'm not an expert but have been experimenting with the 48 reflector series. I have three seperate small grow areas all using Mars Hydro.
1st area, 21in x 14 in x 72 in cabinet 2x MH48
2nd area, 31in x 24in x 96in cubby hole in a 8ft x 6ft walk in closet 4x MH 48
1- 3ft x 3ft x 8ft closet 1x MH Cree 256

First off plants are versatile enough to adapt (to an extent) changes to there environment without to much ill effect.

Plant variety, strain, pigment, leaf size (thin/fat) all play a part in how well they adapt to light saturation.

I have not germinated yet with LED so I won't be joining the cup comp yet.
Plant is Indica dominate, short node stretch, thick/wide dark green leaves.
Vegetation phase: Areas 1 and 2. I started at 22 inches above 10 day old seedlings dipping their feet into a DWC hydro setup. Every 72 hour I moved lights to reduce distance by 2 inches. Understand that as the plants grow. You might have to move the lights away from the plants and not closer. I continued to do this until the lights were 12 inches from top of plants. Eventually, I have had lights as close as 8 inches from plant tops for an entire light cycle without signs of light bleaching (mild distress in temperatures above 80deg f).

Flowering phase: Area 1 only, area 2 will stay in veg for a while. When pistols formed on top buds I moved the lights to 13 inches above plants. As plants grew to 12 inches from lights, l moved lights to 13 inches. Repeating the process as needed.

Area 1 is 26 days in flower
Area 2 is 74 days in veg
I am more than impressed with the quality of light produced on such a small unit.
Results are great so far.

LED lights will bleach top of plants do to oversaturation of light before you will see any sign of burn (did it on purpose).

$#!T OK, when I get back to my computer I'll upload some pic's

Area 1 box, area 2 to the right.

Helps?

Yes, you can move the light closer, as long as no leaf get light burn, it will be fine. For light cycles,I read that many grower go with 24/0 during veg step, but I can not tell you which one is really the best for your growing.hope some experienced grower here will help you.
Yes, with both switches on, will give enough lights to the plants.most of our growers like to turn on both switches from seedling to harvest.

Yes, our recommendation is only for reference, grower need to make adjustment according to the react of the plants.

I also read some grower go with 24/0 the whole time for growing. Is this really good?

So you need to keep an eye on them, once you find little sign of it, you just make adjustment, it will be fine
