Hey OMM I finally got my scope and woah! You're def right, it's a whole new world under there! Now I was super surprised what I found..about 20% amber on the Larry's, and 10-15% amber on the Diablo's. I found virtually no clear trichs on either of them! WTF do I do..they hit week 7 (day 49) today! I typically prefer more upity, sativa type smoke so these seem ready to me, even though I wasn't expecting to harvest for another couple weeks.

I would love for everyone to chime in on this one as I have no experience with this. I have heard over and over 'when you think it's ready, wait another week'. What should I do peeps?!

Thanks WnF, it feels good to finally see what all the hard work produced. I personally think my yield will be small, but there is still tons of room for improvement! It's all about filling the damn Scrogs, and I could've done a much better job on 3/4 of the plants. Still very excited to see dry yield, and even more so to smoke my own stuff. Fun times!

For sure make a post about it. Lots of good DIY stuff on here, and some that I've personally used. My room stinks for sure, and the only way to control it at this point is to constantly run my Ona bucket.

Marley the best thing you can do is take a bud and sample it.... if you like the high then chop. Take a real bud too, not a tiny one that didn't get much light.

I have previously heard that 'potentially' CMH ripens buds faster. Larry OG is supposed to be a 8-10 week flowering strain, but mine seems ready now at week 7. The Diablo is the same, and it looks as if it could go 8-9 weeks..I'd prefer more amber on the Diablo's as they are indica but I was going to use my cab as my dry room.

This leads me to something I need to figure out in the future. If I am going to continue to run multiple strains I need a separate drying area because things finish at different times! Doh!

What to do, what to do..

I do quick drying using a small 23 watt CFL about 2 to 3 inches from the bud which is on a plastic lid. Small amount of radiant heat and a gentle updraft but lid surface won't get hot. Depending on the bud, it takes about 12 hrs. Ambient room temp about 60 with rh 50. Time will be shorter for higher temp or lower rh.

I'm in the same position with my 400W CMH plants. About a week ahead of schedule and the look almost ready to harvest. I'll be testing buds over the next three days. :rollit:

Hey TT thanks for that info. I'm excited to try out some mature buds of my own. Up until this point I've only sampled very immature 'oops!' buds. :bongrip:

This CMH is crazy, I swear my Larry's are ready to go right now..90% red hairs and 20% amber trichs. I watered both of them with just ph'd R/O last night.

How much if at all do u flush your Hempy's? I know I'm kinda screwed by using TRF's, but I figured a watering or 2 w/o all the cal/mag, silica, hygrozyme, snow storm couldn't hurt.

Things are sure getting interesting now!

Last week's immature tasting was a big success. Tonight I'll start with some GDP that I dried and pull a Blue Dragon bud and a Headband bud. Lots of red hairs but no amber trichs yet.

I stopped watering with anything but straight un-phd rainwater just before Christmas. The organic trf's are gone and most of the fan leaves are yellowing so those will go as soon as the bud leaves start to yellow. The crf plants won't really get flushed but nothing has been added. I am going to create a little temporary space to put plants in darkness for a couple of days before harvesting. They will be dark and cold for a couple of days. Theoretically that will stop fresh nute uptake.

Your perlite should be easier to flush than my coco/perlite.

Ya I am planning on a 48 hour dark period before harvest as I have heard good things.

My Larry's are as green as can be. Very nervous they are going to smoke harsh and black..would be such a shame too cus they look absolutely gorgeous. This may be my last run with CRF/TRF's, I guess time will tell.

I was really caught off guard this weekend when checking my trichs..was expecting a couple more weeks at least. Now I'm stuck between an extended flush with too many amber trichs for my liking, or a small flush with ideal trichs..UGH!

Sure glad you got the scope. Be sure to check samples from top to bottom. Some parts mature before others. Some times they do finish earlier than expected....because your grew them so well! :thumb:

Marley if you're not as patient as TT, put your oven on warm (no hotter) and stick the bud in there for an hour or two.

What kind of CMH & Ballast are you using and where did you get it... same for you TT.

I'm getting one, wanna place the order today if possible. Thanks.

Sampling some of my Larry tonight, can't wait! Will give my preliminary report tomorrow.

The good thing about a Scrog is there are very few bottom nugs. Basically everything is up top above the screen and getting fairly equal light. I checked the Larry again last night and was bombarded by amber trichs, these ladies are just screaming to get chopped!

Hey Blue I got my ballast from HTG supply, super cheap and works great. They have awesome customer service there too so if anything happens they will replace np. I got the bulb from a local (well not real local) hydro store. I basically called up every shop in my area. Only 2 of them even knew what I was talking about! One was charging $65 (the close one of course) the other was selling for $50.

I find it crazy these people own shops for growing and are not up to date on the technology. It's cool if you don't want to carry stuff, but to flat out not even know it exists is just sad.

I know there is a site that sells pre-burnt CMH bulbs, but I don't remember which it is..

Patience is not one of my virtues but advance planning is.

Yep, HTGsupply for the ballast. Get their house brand magnetic ballast. It must be a magnetic ballast not a digital. Good price(about $120.) and no hassles. I have two.

Advanced tech lighting for the bulb. Phlips MasterColor Ceramic Metal Halide ~ CMH ~ HPS-Retro White They have been doing a special where they throw in a free HPS bulb. Not that I plan on using it but it is nice to have an emergency spare. :cool: Of course you will have two spares because the ballast comes with an HPS bulb.

Remember that you have to choose between a vertical or horizontal bulb. Make sure you order the right one. :goodluck:

Yup that's the site I was talking about, I think I will prob order my next one from them as opposed to finding one at a Hydro store. Good info on the magnetic and vert/horiz, very important stuff!

I just noticed that I am bad at updating this journal. Last pics were over a week ago, ugh..I'll try and grab some tonight, if not tomorrow fer sho.

Thanks guys that's what I thought. Unfortunately an alternate use for my extra cash has arisen so I'll put it off for a bit longer.

I'm not sure how the existing plants would take to such a different light this far into flower either. I want one badly though... soon.

Ok so I sampled some of the Larry Og this morning and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a small nug I let dry for about a day and a half, was still a tiny bit damp.

Burned mainly white with a bit of black in it, I imagine from the quick dry and lack of cure. I'm still a bit baked while typing this. It had a nice uplifting high, but was also a bit heavy for my liking with a Sativa. I have decided to throw them into a 48 hour dark period after the light cycle tonight.

So harvest date is set to Saturday morning 1/8/11. I'll get the final 'alive' pictures tonight and toss em up tomorrow. Also will try and get some good shots from the harvest..root mass, etc, etc..

I'm excited for my first trimming. It's gonna be a lot of work, but damn fun work!

great stuff marley. your set up is right around what i was thinking. im anxious to see what you come back with being that im convinced ill be doing a scrog in the very near future. what dimension do you use for each plants screen? do you think it could have been expanded to yield more?
