Making The SH Mistic Cloner

JonnyBTreed,

Worked as planned, started with 5 and ended up with 2 making it. Keep in mind this was my very first attempt at cloning!

*3 gallon bucket with Lowes lid
*2" neoprene pucks from an E-Z cloner
*Fogger unit from PetSmart with float

Day 1 February 23:Took cuttings according to JBT's instructions on here...VERY LITTLE ONES...ph balanced water at 5.89....NO NUTES...NO foliar feeding...Technaflora clone gel was used...

Day 5 February 28:ROOTS! Nothing done on my part as of yet and we have roots. 3 clones didn't make it....

Day 9 March 4th: Most recent pic. I am now foliar feeding with 5 ml micro per gal of water. Also have a small nute solution now in tank fogging the roots. 2.5 micro

Thx again JBT. Can't wait to use it on these quality strains I have coming!
:thankyou:

Here's some pics from my cloner - I made it with a 10gallon tub from Walmart.

The clones in front were taken when the mother was less than healthy, but you can see the rest are doing great. No humidity dome needed - I think it does better without. I spray with a light foliar feed twice a day.

This one is one week old:

awesome man, thanks for posting! The clones I took in the pic are just barely rooting. I don't think I was feeding the mothers enough... I'm glad you pointed that out as well. To have healthy clones, you need to start with healthy mothers. Very, Very important!

:thankyou:

Just ordered the fogger and buoy and already have the rubbermaid and neoprene, so I'm excited. Glad I stumbled across this. Thanks jonny.:grinjoint:

No problem man, very glad I could help!

Hello BHs,

This is an absolutely fantastic idea. I got the concpet and I can see how everything goes together to make this mistic cloner. The only problem I can't figure is how much water would one need to put in this setup? I plan on using a 8 gallon bucket.

Yes I have read through the thread and cant seem to locate this little tidbit of information. if someone has posted my apologies in advance. Thanks!

an exact amount of water isn't that important as long as the roots aren't touching the water and your getting dense enough fog coverage. Hope that helps..

JbT,

Thanks for the tip. I guess Ill just have to use some common sense when it comes to the water level. A couple things...Im a nit picker so forgive me in advance.

First how can you know when your fog coverage is enough? Look at the clone tip and see if a drop of water is hanging off it?

Second you say to keep roots out of water? Is the only for th reason is to avoid getting damaged by the fogger?

That's one reason, but more for the fact that because the water gets so warm especially if your using a small tub that it's unhealthy for the new clones roots. The hotter water is, the lower the oxygen content of the water. If water gets hot enough it doesn't hold sufficient oxygen for the plants roots, and the plant essentially drowns. The reason hot air isn't a problem in the root zone (aeroponics, or this foggers) is because it has all the access to oxygen that it needs, while still receiving enough moisture to continue growth. A warm environment in many circumstances can be very good for a starting root system (i.e seedling tray heaters). But in hydroponic systems, hot water causes far more problems then anything. Algae growth ~ (which requires a nutrient of some sort) if you use distilled water with nothing in it, it doesn't matter how hot it gets, you'd be very unlikely to get algae). Keep switching out the water completely, use soap and keep the cloning tub clean. Bacteria, viruses and mold thrive in warm high humidity areas like that tub.

Welcome to the gang, have you visited the Deep Water Culture Home thread?

:bump::bump::bump:

This is too good of a thread, a very informative thread, too good to let it die.

:bump::bump::bump:
For the record, I'm reading it. I wanna be a Deep Water Culture but don't know how to insert that little avatar. Do you insert it into your sig?? p.s. my next grow will be in a new system I made that will be recurculating drip/DWC and mediumless. First time trying the mediumless part. .V.

Hello fellow growers,

Just an update. I have decided to go ahead and try this mistic cloner idea out. I found my fogger up at Petsmart (in the reptile section) for 50 bucks. A little high I know but had the urge to set it up right now and not wait for an order online somewhere.

Popped in 2 clones yesterday (Afghani Kush and Afgooey). Will keep you folks posted with results. Thanks to all who has contributed to this great thread to help out the new and upcoming generation of growers. :nicethread:
