MadMike's Sun Grown 2013

I have some seeds from last year from the nice folks at SoHum. I'm growing a couple 80% I/ 20% S plants called Kushit. Its lineage consists of Purple Kush, Diesel, Skunk #1, Cheesel, and Sour Diesel. The other, OG Ringo is a 70% I/ 30% S and is a fruity pungent strain which is great for the meditative state. I'm having a hell of a time sexing these plants this year for some reason. I just can't tell, even with the few I germinated in April. Which is why I started a couple more late in May for fear of too many males. Only one in the ground and the rest still in pots awaiting sexing. I hope everyone is staying legal and staying safe. There have been a few Mex cartel busts in public parks, which really screws things up for those of us who do it legally and responsibly for personal use. The local media grabs these stories and runs with them for all they're worth. The dispensaries are still gouging patients while expecting providers to give it to them for a paltry sum according to my small circle of associations. I don't know why anyone would do business with these pirates. Let them run out! Grow your own, and lets see if we can stay the course of decriminalizing MMJ rather than giving all powers of distribution, taxation, to those nasty little people in government sucking the life out of the American taxpayer.

Excuse the rant. I'll get some pics as soon as I have time.
:green_heart: Good luck and good health to everyone.

Thanks Lester. Weird weather this year, huh? I've never seen so much wind this time of year, or the sporadic fluctuations from cold one day, hot the next. I'm seeing fewer of those moths around, but am keeping an eye out for eggs or their little grubs. I'm using some Organicide spray this year since something has been nibbling a few of my leaves. Once they get bigger, I won't get overly concerned. I'm using organic E.B. Stone soil and Fox Farms Happy Frog. I got some great local compost too. I'll be using dry nutrients this year of E.B. Stone.

Well, Yeah, what we've felt down here in SoCal is hot, humid weather for 2 weeks. Sun finally starting to take over for the past few days. Was more like tropical, Florida weather down here... pretty good for vegging, but not good for flowering.

I see you also are worried about the moth's as much as I am, glad you are know about the evil around the corner! :)
Well, get this, the moth's (especially ones we're worried about) have whats called peak flight times, where the males and females will fly around (high activity at that time hence the name), if the males and females can mate, then the females will then look for a place to lay her eggs ( our bud ). Obviously many things we can do, but one thing I'm gonna try this year is a moth trap, although not specifically designed for the corn-borer, I thought I'd give it a try...
Update510_022.jpg

Been spraying Safer's BT spray for caterpillars, and will continue as long as possible, too bad the second generation of corn-borers are much worse (early fall, october - JUST WHEN WE HARVEST ), that's when they may lay an egg in a deep nook/crannie of the bud, obviously we can't spray there, so the worm will burrow in immediately, by the time it has hallowed out the stem and is traveling, no spray will do the trick, and I don't know of any bugs that will go in to follow them.

Here's a little guideline I thought of:

1) Spray BT (or caterpillar product - Spinosad, BT,etc.) as long as possible without damaging buds or creating PM
2) Deploy squadrons of lady-bugs during peak-flight times (when the iron is hot during flowering) on the plants to scour the canopy for eggs
3) Deploy Moth Trap in near-by vicinity (they say to put it IN your tree but fuck that) during peak flight times

Being out in the open, the plants can be vulnerable, corn-borers have a sweet tooth for good bud too.

Cheers :cheertwo:

PS, The Codling Moth trap (uses specific female sex pheromone) wouldn't work on corn-borers
I just figured what the hell, extra protection just in case.
Looking for Corn-Borer trap though...

I appreciate the tip, Lester, and it sounds like a good idea. I harvest walnuts every year too. I remember seeing a few worms last year removing husks and figured they were a couple maggots in a moist husk. I'll be looking for those traps.

A couple of plants awaiting earth placement:

I found orange rust like what rose leaves get on two young Kushit plants. I wasn't mold since it wouldn't rub off. We had cool days, then rain, then 90 degree heat during the day this past week. I removed the effected leaves. Anybody else see this problem in Northern California?

Perhaps it's a trace element deficiency..as long as it doesn't take over, it can outgrow it. But yeah like KJC says, pictures are worth a 1000 words, perhaps something that may be easily fixed with an appropriate nutrient application or lack thereof

:peace:

Here it is:

I tend to not think it is a nutrient deficiency since it is still in rich potted soil. We had rain and 60 degrees with 94% humidity for two days. Then, within 48 hours, the daytime temp rose to 98 degrees with 90% humidity. Sun has been intense but the other plants which are a couple months older look great. They are different strains too.

I think it is what your spraying on your plants . I had fungus gnats and the damn grow store sold me Gonat ........Stuff will kill every leaf you spray it on......Just my experience anyway

i'm subed love outdoors

grow stores will not tell you about natural fixes . 1/4 inch of sand on top of soil my fix now

I haven't sprayed anything on my plants. I'm suspecting a Boron deficiency (thanks to KJ's post), so I scratched some bone meal in the moist soil, and gave them some water this morning before heading off to work.

Females #2 & 3 of OG are getting bushy and need to get in the ground. It would be an injustice to leave them in Smart Pots. If I could just get some time to do it
I'll get some pics up when I do. The 2 suspected Boron deficient juvenile plants are taking time to bounce back. I did read that bone meal takes time to make a difference. Dang dog is interested in that bone meal, so I have to watch him.

The young plants seem healthy with the exception of the few lower leaves which showed signs of some type of deficiency (guessing it is Boron, I scratched in some bone meal and then realized i still have some Tiger Bloom which contains a small percentage of Boron). This is what a few lower leaves look like currently:

I snapped a few pics of some other plants which are nice and healthy. I'm still suspicious of this one as to whether it is male or female. I can usually tell by the hair nodes but the ones I've identified have very fine hairs at the node:

Here's another that appears to be a nice healthy female:

The one on the left here may be female. The right one looks male. These plants are boggling me as far as sexing:

I hope everyone has healthy plants and happy days ahead :peacetwo:
