Low Input Southern African Window Weed Start Up: Coco Grow

Hiya ms.Carmen apologies for slacking on the clones update but I got it done for ya today.... :snowboating:

Step1. Choosing a victim -LA Cheese from greeenhouse seeds.

image.jpeg

Step2. The Offerings....

image.jpeg

The ones that I've circled are per se' the clones I'll be snipping, rule of thumb is to snip from the lower branches as they are the ones with vim and vigor....haha

Step3. Instruments of Torture.

image.jpeg

Snips, razor blade, surgical wipe, bowl of water for clones and a wooden skewer ( aloe leaf out picture. )

Step4. The Victims.

image.jpeg
image.jpeg

I chose 6 hardy cuts also they were in flower so will prob take a bit longer to root but will go a bit spastic in the branch department when they go through reveg...

Step5. The Medium.

image.jpeg

I use 5kg bricks of coco which I hydrate with calmag mixed with ph6 water...
For the clones I used 0.5ml biobzzz to 500ml water.

Step6. Stabbing.

image.jpeg

I use a wooden skewer to get the pulp and juices flowing...

Step7. The victim.

So next you take your clone and trim back all the leaves on the clone, the reason is as it concentrating on making roots down there is does not need such a big surface area right now as you only misting the clones and humidity dome with a spray bottle...

Step8. The 45dg.

image.jpeg

Now you take the razor blade and scrape the lower stem of the rough outer skin as you cleaning the area where the new roots will sprout from then slice a bit of the stem off at at a 45dg angle and dip it into the end of the aloe leaf where you jabbed it with the skewer to make it easier to insert them clones stem and also so you don't accidentally snap the clones stem....

Step9. New Home for cpl Weeks...

Once ive got all the clones all snug and tight in their new homes, I put them into 16lt tubs lid face down and seedling trays on the inside and pop the tub over after spraying inside..

To the left of the tubs are clones which I need to up-pot sometime over the weekend into 5lt bags...
The lights over the tubs are two 36w curly cfl bulbs.....haha

Hope you having an awsome evening... :headbanger::ganjamon:

Nice tutorial brother Smeegs i dig it nice and simple! :bravo::green_heart:
My list of grown cheese varieties is getting longer by the year and i am yet to grow the LA cheese by GHS. Have you smoked any LA cheese yet or is this your first grow of her? That mother looks like a reveg too ;)
We better get this damn clone-porter sorted as i would of loved a couple LA cuttings.:yummy: @Smeegol

Hey Carmen! :snowboating: You're getting quite the nursery together there! :slide:
That is so awesome - well done on saving our bees :bravo: Transkei bud is so good- good luck to your seedling lets hope SHE buds up well for you :yummy:
Happy growing! I feel the rain is coming...
Thanks man :) The prediction for us is rain on Sunday / Monday. It's so nice to see grass growing again with the promising rains we have been having!

Ok, now this is interesting. I wasn't sure if you could take a cut off a flowering plant, and when the best time is to do it. The second photo is throwing me off. Are those clones? If they are, the look to be past the "incubation" stage that you do under the tubs.... that's really clever. Thanks so much, Smeegs. Perhaps I might try that down the road when I understand more about the growth cycles of the plants. I hope you had a great night :)

Hey brother Irie I've got 2 cheeses going at the moment, a U.K. cheese and the LA cheese, glad to have another cheesekop on board....haha
Keep that clone porter idea fresh as I'll take some clones of the la off the new clones to be and we'll make a plan to swop or share.... :snowboating:

Morning ms.Carmen the secon photo is clones of the SIncity and Critical Kush I took a 7-8 weeks ago, I keep them under 4x 50w led strips ( Chinese too...haha ) at night and sunlight by day to get the most growth out of them as they are going to make up my winter grow for outside this cold season.
You can def take cuts off flowering plants but they do take longer to root, and the resulting clone becomes a monster clone as the branches that come thereof have no rhyme or reason and follow no normal growing patterns that I've seen...haha

They spit out branches at every conceivable angle and can become an unholy mess if you don't keep her trimmed neatly, my granny's Balls plants were from monster clones and I struggled to keep them in check...

I quite like the idea of monster clones hahaha.... I will see if my seedlings take off or not... they are in good health but pretty static atm. Have a fabulous day Smeegs :)

Oh my gosh, I didn't even see this first part of the tutorial until now. Did you post the pics in two batches? This a brilliant tutorial. Thank you so much!

Greetings from sunny Cape Town.
Considering the shocks my first plants had, I am pleased with the way that they are both soldiering on. The Swaz is looking fairly sprightly, and the poor cheese is surviving and trying to make flowers. I gave them both a trim today. My teenagers are looking pretty good considering that it is winter. I have two young ones that will be re-potted as soon as the medium is ready. I am airing them out a bit on the window ledge to speed that up. I have to say it, since their device produced these pics... Vive Huawei!

Hey Carmen! :ganjamon: it's a lovely day in the Cape.
You have done a great job nursing those first plants back to good health and by the look of it you'll get some smoke off em! :cheer: Young ones looking great despite the cold evenings we've been having!
Have an awesome weekend :passitleft:

Thank you Irie Lion. I hope so, and I also feel I know a little bit more now to care better for the new lot coming in. I learn better by "doing", rather than reading about how to do. Have a fabulous weekend too :) :passitleft:

Greetings fellow saffas and international friends,
I thought I would give an update of where things are with my window weed. My balcony grow has diversified. It can no longer be classified as Southern African weed now. I tried my hand at a very basic hydro grow but the water is not heated. Today I decided that I will pot the seedlings, as they are not really growing in the water and the one lost its taproot to root rot, which I can only put down to stagnation of growth in impotent water. I have a surprise seed in there, and a Chronic Ryder auto, I think. So those will go into pots today. My Transkei is developing slowly but surely, and the Silver Haze seems stagnant too. I have another surprise one, which we think is Blueberry from someone's flowers, and a White Widow, both looking ok to me, but I am still too unsure of what I am doing to be certain. So those are all seedlings in various stages, except the Transkei, which has been topped. Then in flower, I have a Swazi, a Skunk, a surprise, another Swazi, an Exodus Cheese that looks like it is starting to make flowers but I can't be sure because she was too damaged by the repotting experience, to do well. Same with the ripening Swaz.... she is better than her counterpart though. It's really cold now, but we will gaan maar aan and see what happens (if you have advice, please go ahead)... hope you are all well :circle-of-love::nomo::ganjamon: I am about to start a veggie and herb patch for my kitchen, outside my front door, so that will be fun.

Who can tell me what in heavens name is happening with the legislation. FOGFA seem to have captured the public mind with their notions of what should be, and are plowing forth with no regard to objections to their model.

I am quite perturbed about what will happen if they legislate for Cannabis Clubs to be registered, monitored and policed. I am angry that no focus is given to micro growers in the informal sector and what it means to be able to cultivate and trade legally for local economic development and household survival. It seems to me that "those in the know" and with bucks or investors, grabbed licenses to grow medical weed, and now the rest are basically screwed. I am not comfortable with the trajectory of the legalization process. How can one organization like FOGFA speak on behalf of us. They certainly do not speak on my behalf. Are they just another corporate charity, headed by self interested individuals, who are our self-appointed spokespeople? If not, they are not responding to objections that make good sense for more beneficiaries of legalization. If they had any experience in the development sector, or called on experts who do, they could for instance increase their "celebrity" by working with specialists to develop a new model, suitable for South African conditions, and tout it as a "best practice" example, but nooooooooooo :lot-o-toke: Are there any other advocacy groups out there?

the big girls didn't fit on the previous post.... these are the two that took a shock and ended up in my icu. Actually, now I am quite bummed, thinking about how certain policy suggestions are busy being rail roaded through without a proper consultative process! Anyone here know anything about how to get a proper consultative process rolling?

Still loving this tutorial, Smeegs... it is so good

Looking good Carmen. Mine are growing so slowly at the moment.
Hey LeRugged, thanks :) I think last night was our coldest night so far... 8 degrees! Is it your place where I saw the monster plants on the outdoor balcony? I have been assuming this to be the case because I watched those mature and they were looking fabulous. I have seen from your post that you are mixing it up a bit and growing in different indoor and outdoor environments now. When is it announced who the winner is of the monthly plant compo? I haven't been on the site for a little while so I am a tad out of touch. Good luck with the winter grow... it will be interesting if nothing else :)
