Losing My Grow Virginity

Night 11 for Aliyah and Paige

The babes are looking good. I can tell the Ace Seed genetics seem to have at least some significant sativa genetics. Aliyah is growing fast and spreading quickly. Paige is showing some progress too but is seriously wonky looking. The more she grows the more obvious it is she is going to be the wild child with leaves growing this way and that. Since it has been a solid five days since their last soak I gave them each a small saturation of cal-mag water waited a few minutes then gave them straight filtered, boiled tap until runoff.

My newest germinated seeds still have not broken soil but I am not terribly worried. I am sure I will likely see them both make an appearance in the next day or two. I did plant them both a tad deeper than I did the others but the soil on top should be light and penetrable. I do think there is a chance the Quick One may not sprout at all after damaging the tap root when I was trying to "assist" the shell open a bit. I would like to see them both show their beautiful, shy faces soon!

Here are some photos for you folks.

You can really see her asymmetry but I love her the way she is; that is until its time to top/LST ;)

Night 12 update:

Tonight's update is sponsored by the Divine Pink Goodness, or so it seems by all of the violet colored photos ;)

I have noticed a bit of a temperature creep again.

Aliyah is looking great per usual

Paige is doing well also despite her lopsidedness

I'm happy to introduce you to my White Widow Auto that broke soil tonight. Everyone meet Winona! She came out for her first official hello :) You may have to look closely to discern her in the super pink background.

Despite not breaking soil I am going to introduce my Quick one Auto whom I have christened, Quinn so that everyone can send positive vibes her way. She may not sprout after Daddy being a klutz and severing her tap root :( We shall call tonight and all other nights until she breaches the surface as night zero for her. Please come out Quinn, everyone wants to meet you!

I ham fisted a NL Auto trying to break her out of an aborted aero garden start. Lost at least 1/2 of the tap root. She lagged a bit after transplant, but has come back strong. As has been said to me many times, these are strong girls :)

Night 13 Aliyah and Paige, Night 2 for Winona. Still night zero for Quinn.

Aliyah sure is growing fast. I feel like until I go to top Paige she wont even attempt to even out. Quinn is still hiding but Winona is spreading her cotyledons nicely and is responding well to the LED.

Here are some non pink photos of the girls:

I am sure captions aren't necessary as it is pretty easy to tell them apart at this point!

All looking good, a friend of mine has just grown some White Widow Auto's which he topped and and it is a great smoke, just watch out for height with her, his grew between 4.5 and 5 foot tall
:passitleft:

That sounds awesome! Do you know how long it vegged for? Also, what node did he/she top her and was there any LST done as well? I suppose the pot size would also impact the height if it was say - in a 5 gallon pot.

She was topped at 4th node and was Lst'ed as well, she was in a 3 gallon fabric pot and ended up with 8 bottle size tops with a stupid amount of crystals, she grew for roughly 10-11 weeks. will see if I can get some pics off him to show you, hope yours goes the same way!!!

I will need to switch grow space in that case but it sounds delightful. I am not sure I will pull that big of a yield with my lowly 270W UFO LED and my 3' ceiling krunk trunk.

Week 2 Update for Aliyah and Paige. I think Aliyah is drinking the water pretty rapidly. Both her and Paige are looking good but i noticed the nodes are quite tight on both.

Night 3 for Winona

Still no sight of Quinn. I placed a plastic bag with holes poked around the side for venting to trap humidity and avoid the temptation to water.

Night 15

Quinn still a no show. I am thinking I may need to trench her up, poke a hole with a paperclip and try to re-germ her if possible.

Paige is getting bigger but is still really wonky. Both her and Aliyah are wide and has tight nodes. I am going to wait probably another week before topping Paige. ALiyah was showing some slight droop yesterday and today. I gave her a soak and decided to top her right above the third node. It opened up some of her under leaves quite a bit and now she and Paige are closer in height. Winona is doing well. Her stem has straightened out some as she has grown slightly taller. I gave her a mild saturation of water because my trunk was beginning to dry out for some reason...humidity has dropped significantly and I think it is due to cold snaps outside.

Here is a snap of Aliyah. I realize 15 days is a bit early, but I have seen some gurus on here pull it off and decided the foliage was thick and the under leaves may appreciate the head room.

Well it seems that Alicia is showing concerning signs. I check on her this morning and her fan leaves are definitely clawing and she seems dry despit her soak two nights ago. I referred to the 420 magazine thread on Cannabis Plants and Pest Problem Solver and I am having trouble narrowing it down. It sounds like Amonia might be a factor but I haven't given her anything but powdered cal-mag and water.

This could also be the early stages of nitrogen deficiencies as she does appear slightly lighter. Apparently colder temps make it harder for the plants to absorb N and since my low has been down around the mid/low 60's that could explain what is happening.

I also suspect my pH meter doesn't work correctly at all. Any recommendations on w good soil pH reader?

I will upload the photo from this morning when I get into the office.

If you are using a hot soil, the nutrients are probably used up by now. I would transplant now too. Could be root bound at 2 weeks. Could be a lot of things. I would transplant with maybe some super thrive and plain water. Then watch for signs of N deficiency. The transplant should give you enough new nutrients for a couple of weeks anyways. You can check the link in my sig for more info on what it could be. Good luck to you buddy

A transplant may be due. I fear the temps are too low and the lights are too close. It seems like Aliyah has a combination of slight wilt/clawing, slowed growth, really tight nodes and twisting. She was showing wilt even before the soak and topping so I may have mistook her symptoms for needing water. I also need to double check the pH of both my tap water which I am filtering and boiling as well as my soil. I have a new pH tester on the way.

Regarding the soil being too hot I used Happy frog with perlite, however I realized after mixing several batches of soil with this that the perlite is miracle gro brand which is enriched with miracle gro plant food - no bueno. I believe it contains .07-.07-.07 NPK.

Again my light is most likely too close. From the lens to the canopy measures between 18.5 and 20" depending on which plant. I have read most keep the lights about 24" away in this stage granted they have much more powerful lighting as mine is only 270W advertised. None the less I am thinking I need adjustable light ropes and i need to remount the way in which the light is mounted.

It is time I also finish the box; I purchased a Lasko personal cermaic heater which I want to setup right in front of my intake fan to be installed shortly. I plan on installing on the box to suck in warm air when the lights are off and establishing both it and the intake fan on the same digital timer. I think if I have it running about five of the 6 hours my light is off it should allow slight cooling so the on hours do not overheat. I can allow the intake fan to act as a passive intake during light hours which should improve air flow still.

It is also time that I correctly attach the exhaust fan and move the powerstrip within to make the box completely internalized. I think I will also place something between the closet floor which is simply linoleum-lined concrete and the trunk itself. These are what I need to do (as well as transplant soon). Now I need you guys to hold me to my word so I actually get things done!

It turns out NOOB4x4 was correct with thinking they were root bound! I transferred Aliyah and Paige into the Thjngs' old air pots. I paid careful attention not to damage the roots this time ;)

I also figured out why Quinn didn't sprout. The severed tap root shorted her thrust to push through soil. She shed her hard hat about a half inch down and tried to stretch but with a weak start and no sunlight she tragically died prematurely...a moment of silence for sweet Quinn.

I am holding off on germing another auto due to my lack of real estate. I may be in trouble once Winona outgrows her soil. This will definitely force my hand in coming up wth a secondary grow space for the photos - whether that's a tent or another home made contraption is yet to be decided. Good news is some improvements for the trunk are en route.

More updates to come.

Night 19 Update Aliyah and Paige, Night 8 for Winona:

I managed to make some improvements to the Krunk Trunk after all. I am still waiting on my adjustable light ropes to set my LED exactly where I want it. My jimmy-rigg in the interim has had positive response in Aliyah. Paige has yet to be topped due to her incredibly bushy, tight nodes. She has strange offshoots and is already starting to get a pungent odor going even in veg.

Winona is slowly getting bigger. I am thinking once she develops her second set of true leaves I am going to upgrade her pot size. I dont have the room to put her in the larger air pots like her older sisters so she is going to have to settle for a plastic 1 gal in-betweener pot. I figure if I can get the photos in a new grow space before she is three weeks or so I should be able to transplant her and avoid early flowering.

Here are some photos of the trunk and the girls. The trunk is not in a finished stage by any means. I still have to permanently set the power strip once I find one with a longer cable like 6-10' and of course cable management will follow with the new grow light ropes.

So stealthy...
