Since putting a gallon in the swick base last Wednesday I haven't even opened the vGrow cube. Moira has been on her own, with me occasionally peeking through the window. The VPD still is still too high right now, as it's warm and dry in my office. She hasn't started respiring enough to raise the RH in there yet, although it is going up.

And yet... she's growing well and even getting greener! I opened it up and filled the swick base today. It took another gallon, this time of 4g/G MC. I also top-watered around the outside, as it was looking dryer than the middle. I'm also turning the cloth pot when I water, to try to keep the roots from growing into the wicks/base (for now).

With the vGrow at 75% she's right on the edge of too much light. I'll take a little leaf cupping, though, to keep the node spacing nice and tight. That main stem is starting to look like a SIP/SWICK stem, big and fat. She's starting to grow quicker and I expect she'll be draining her base quicker as well. Next stop... topping!

Nice growth in there and much tighter nodes than some other plant you have growing! ;)

Does coco not wick as well as soil and that's why you find yourself top watering?

Thanks Shed. Yea, I don't have any room to play around in here so I'm keeping the DLI on the high side.

IDK, I've never used coco or a swick. I've also never tried bottom-watering (SIP/SWICK) in a cloth pot,but it makes sense that the sides would dry out a little. I just noticed that the edges of the pot looked dry.

I've only top-watered three times; when she went into the coco, when I let it go dry, and today when I added to the res. Other than that she is getting what she needs from the swick base and she's growing well, so the coco must be wicking up enough ;)

Vivosun has done a fantastic job of incorporating feedback from alpha users and have really refined this second version. The improvements (that I can see) are:

- New SIP 3G grow bag - The bottom is a high-wicking material and the sides are {rubber/vinyl?} coated. It seems like you would get less moisture loss from the sides. I'll try it with the next grow :)
- It comes with clips for the poles with a metal base, and strong magnet clips. I was wondering how I was going to rig a scrog net, but this should make it easy. I'll show them when I set up the scrog net (soon)
- It has an improved SWICK self-watering base
- Customized manual gauge
- New electronic gauge
- Better res access - The original was hard to access, this one has a grill that lifts off and makes it much easier
- Instead of two wicks crossing in the middle, it has four wicks near the center.
- There is better support in the middle of the base.
- They added custom printing on the back flap - It should be very helpful for new growers
- The cover is improved around the back seams. There are no light leeks at all where the zippers come together.
- The display on the front comes on when touched but is locked after syncing with the app
- The electronic water sensor now reads on the app! I can check the water level and even get low water notifications.

From the outside, it looks more polished. The black on black looks very snazzy. The only thing I don't like: there is still a small light leak around the window. The window has a magnetic seal, and it gets broken when folder for shipping. Maybe they can just change how it ships (flat), or pre-score the magnets? It is much smaller than v1, but I still can't get the window to seal completely.

My favorite part was how easy it was to set up and move Moira. I emptied the old res right into the new one and started up the same recipe that was running on v1.

Moira is still growing well. She's getting wider and bigger leaves and pushing out her fourth node. I've decided to top above the 4th node and set the scrog up right where the vGrow tells me. It looks like it will be a few more days...

Thanks SO. So far, I'm really excited at how easy it was to get to this point. I love going directly into coco in a self-watering base, then just let it drink!

Thanks 70's. For someone just trying to grow enough for themselves this is the perfect little automated grow box. It should be very repeatable.
 
That's an awesome bud machine @LKABudMan. My custom microcontroller garden controller project just hit the trash with all the microcode I wrote, lol! Why DIY when you can get Off-the-Shelf solutions quicker and cheaper! 😄

Thanks Becca. @VIVOSUN has put together a really sweet grow box. The software to go with it is very helpful, and I know they are still working on additional grow pilot software, too.

Just a couple of shots through the window this morning. She's doing well, growing wider and pushing out nodes with tight node spacing. I can see that 5th node poking up, but not quite enough to chop it off. Another day, maybe two...

I am living the sardine can life, but I'm shopping for new digs with more room for my hobbies and projects. It's just a matter of time before I find more suitable quarters.
