Pinky (Herbies Seeds Bubblegum Auto)
Date: 10/2/23 Day# 27
Medium: 5G SIP Bucket with FFHF & Dynomyco
Nutrients: 1/2c Geoflora Veg on day# 15

Since she was topped Pinky has really taken off. I think she is finally on board with the SIP. On Saturday I filled up her reservoir. We'll see how long it lasts her.
Pinky Tracker.png
I also started her LST on Saturday. The first session was just four carhooks. Whe way I put them in, though, not only held four branches but also pushed the other four to the side a bit.

She got ignored yesterday. This morning I updated the LST, adding a couple more carhooks. One of the top branches had escaped so I'll be pulling it back down incrementally. I'm trying not to get anything too tight or too close to the main stem, I'm tired of bracking off limbs ;)

Violet is a real peach mate. I did have to check was looking at an auto. Is there any challenge too great for you?! Haha.

The old branch snap or break is a familiar foe, theres definitely a correlation between water cycle times Ive noticed though.

Anything under tension or needing to be suppercropped and brought down seems to be best at early lights on as they tend toward a dry (or drier cycle).

Theres something about having them under the water tension that makes it way easier to snap them.

But man, I do love love love your journals!

Thanks DV8. I'm just glad I had the extra 4x4 tent and light.

In the SIP they're always drinking! Seriously, I'm not sure they are any more supple in the morning. Lately, I've been LSTing fine and then the limbs break off as the main stem grows. I'm hoping keeping the LST far away from the main stem will help.
But man, I do love love love your journals!
And, thanks again :)

Violet (Herbies Seeds Grandaddy Purple Auto)
Date: 10/3/23 Day# 72, Flower day# 28
Medium: 5G SIP Bucket with FFHF & Dynomyco
Nutrients: Remo Nutrients & Purpinator

Violet was starting to show a few brown spots on her leaves and on the leaf edges. Since I'm on the lower range of K (200), when I saw it I started adding 6mL/G Purpinator for a little extra P/K/Mg/S (bumping K up to 250). That was five days ago and I'm happy to report that it looks like it stopped what was going on. Today I started adding 10mL/G, bumping K up to 291.
Remo 10-4 mix with 10ml Purpinator.png
I'll watch her to see how she does with it, but I'd like to keep here at this range for weeks 3-6. I'd rather be near the upper range than the lower range.

Today I created a new recipe just for Violet. I used my standard AUTO recipe and tweaked it for her and the VSF6450.

The first stage (seedling) is where she is now, in early flower. The VSF6450 is at 50% in flowering mode (40-45DLI), and with a max RH of 65% she's right around 1.1-1.2 VPD.

The next stage (veg) brings the max RH down to 60% which should bring the VPD up to 1.3-1.4. I have that stage scheduled to start tomorrow, the start of the 5th week of flower.

The final stage (flower) beings the max Rh down to 56%, pushing the VPD into the 1.5-1.6 range. It also brings the VSF6450 down to 40%, reducing the DLI. I have that scheduled for the end of the seventh week of flower (10/24).

All I need to do is keep feeding her twice a day and try to keep her healthy. The Vivosun SGS will take care of her environment automatically through the rest of the grow. Which is great, one less thing I need to remember ;) And Violet can just keep building...

Date: 10/5/23 Day# 30
Medium: 5G SIP Bucket with FFHF & Dynomyco
Nutrients: 1/2c Geoflora Veg on day# 15

Pinky is really moving now! It's a race to see how many branches she can grow before starting flower. I'm updating her LST every day, moving the hooks further outside. I can see tomorrow I'll need to add a half dozen more carhooks. She's got plenty of room, I'd love to see her fill her 32x32 space in the Vivosun Auto Oasis :)

Hi LKA. Do you think having them in the SIP makes them bigger faster? Your Pinky is the same age as my young plants and mine aren't getting the branch growth and length Pinky is. Were you getting this kind of growth pre-SIP?

Good morning grow star ⭐

Thanks for the time, attention and pride you take in each and every plant you grow.

:)
Thanks Trala. I do love growing these plants :thanks:

Hi Carmen. I only grew one auto before moving to the SIP and she grew pretty well too. I do think that the SIP makes them grow faster because there is no need for a wet/dry cycle. There is also no chance of over-watering, they only drink as much as they need. Once their roots get acclimated to the SIP the plants just take off!

I'm still feeding Violet morning and night and she's averaging about 1.5 gallons every day. I'm still feeding my 10-4 Remo mix. I'm adding 10mL/G Purpinator now to bump up the P/K/Mg/S. I also add some Great White or BTI every other feeding to keep the gnats down and keep the res fresh.

OK, so maybe the leaf issues didn't entirely stop. She still has some spotting on her leaves, mostly up top. It looks like Ca-def but I'm at 115 with Ca. Is this still K-def? It is progressing slowly, but does look to be progressing.

Overall, Violet is still looking really good and building well. She's already really frosty and starting to show some brown pistils now. She's really packing on the bud too, her colas are getting fat! I think this lady still has a couple more weeks to go, I can't wait to see how much bud she can pack on!

Date: 10/9/23 Day# 34 Fday# 3
Medium: 5G SIP Bucket with FFHF & Dynomyco
Nutrients: Remo 10-4 mix

Pinky's acclimated to the SIP now and is drinking more, over a liter per day. I was able to turn off the humidifier in the tent and it's staying above 65%RH. This morning her res was dry so I filled it with Remo 10-4 mix.
Pinky Tracker.png
I marked Saturday 10/7 (day# 32 from seed) as the first day of flower for Pinky.

I haven't had to do anything with her LST in the past couple of days. All of her branches are pretty even and growing well, and her sub-branches are right there with them. I may spread her out again soon depending on how tall she gets.

I removed a few suckers today but she doesn't have much to defoliate. She has a really good frame and I've managed not to break off any limbs (yet). It feels like this girl is hitting high gear right as she goes into flower. I just need to keep her res full of nutes and keep the Vivosun AeroLight at the right distance, around 40-45DLI, and let her do the rest.

Under the red arrow: Decreased availability to the plant of a nutrient due to the action of another nutrient.

Under the green arrow: Increased availability to the plant of a nutrient due to an increase in the level of another nutrient.

So an increase in nitrogen decreases uptake of boron, potassium, and copper, but increases uptake of magnesium and molybdenum.

Doubtful it's a Ca def at 115ppm, but remember that too much K locks out Ca.

1696913066260.png
Uhg, Mulder's chart. Unfortunately, adding Purpinator adds K, P, & Mg - all of which lock out Ca. In turn, adding Ca locks out all of them. All I can get from this is that everything needs to be in balance.

I believe the Remo 10-4 mix I've was feeding them was pretty balanced. She started showing leaf issues around flower day# 24, right around when my last auto (Julie) started showing issues. Julie went fast after that, where I feel that Violet is still hanging in there pretty well. Is that because I added the extra P/K?

I've been adding 1mL/G organic calmag (0-0-0) for the last couple of days with no apparent change. So what would you do now, go back to the straight 10-4 mix? She's coming into her 6th week of flower.
