They never get expunged unless you go through the formal expungement process. In Michigan, a person can apply to have 1 conviction expunged if: (1) they have no other convictions, (2) more than 5 years has passed since they completed all terms of sentence (including jail, probation, etc.), and (3) the offense is not one of the statutory felonies that are ineligible for expungement.
