Jon's Dedicated Fruity Pebble Cookies Grow Plus The Mystery Plant

Comprehensive Friday Morning Post

1. First order of business is always to take the Zkittlez from the rig and place her in the sunrise. Here's a cola.

2. Next was to free this little baby from her seed coat and clear coat. Done.

3. The spent soil girl, now freed, looks small but fine. This one needs to green up today for me.

4. After that we tackled the back side of Titan defol, which I saved for this morning when it's cool. Here's the tops post-defoliation.

5. And here's the bottoms post-defol. I also removed all of Titan's lower supports, as per our plan when the buds got big. I think this qualifies as big, so down the ring comes a bit. The reason I did this was, first I support them up to develop in as much light as possible and deal with the squish together for a bit with selective defoliation and fan maintenance, and now, when the buds are, well, pretty big and dense, I let the supports out and the ring comes down a couple inches as a whole. This further opens up all the little buds in between that got more exposed with the defol, and allows for superior air flow, really helping with getting air in between all the nooks and crannies. I can tell at this point that she'll support her lower ring just fine without the supports, even with all the weight they're supporting. This will become very clear at harvest, and you guys will not believe it. I don't. Someone besides me grew this plant. I'm not this good yet.

6. You see the leaf curl on Titan's upper fans. That's from heat. It gets pretty damn warm at the top of the colas for about four hours a day, around 2 pm to 6 pm or so, when the sun pounds the garage door and the ambient temperature in the garage is in the mid to upper 90s. Try keeping two tents in the 70s all the time and at 40% RH or lower when the air around the tents is 95 degrees and the RH is around 60%. It's not that easy. Lol. The pistils and buds don't seem to mind the heat a bit, just the leaves are curling some. No matter, they're not long for the world anyway, most of the big fans are beginning to show their age. All good in Titantown, but here's a picture to show you the proximity of the very tops to the @NextLight 420h, which has performed in spectacular fashion as usual. At that close with the light at 100% it's warm and very ppfd-y.

7. Then we water everyone. Here's a shot of a couple of the Jack Herer buds stacking oh so sweetly, especially for a no-name auto. I'm pretty impressed with this plant, she's very photo-esque in terms of budding out. She should be, you would think, a lot closer to done than the rest of the tent, but as you see, her buds are developing at the same rate as the other plants. I'm wondering if flowering her at 12/12 has something to do with that or not? Maybe the 24 Karat experiment will help shed some light if they get off the ground. This first one is awash in the reds.

8. This one shows Jack's true colors, or a helluvalot closer.
You can see in this shot that my measures to increase her green and get her healthy all the way again worked out nicely, her color is sweet as hell now.

That's it for now. Happy Friday everyone! Let's have some damn fun this weekend.

Your plants beg to differ. The consistent, bigly results you get from almost all your plants would suggest you are, in fact, that good.

Jeez @Azimuth, stop, you'll make me blush. Thanks, really, I appreciate those kind words.

Just grabbed some White Widow auto seeds from Pacific Seed Bank, a reseller, with the genetics by Original Harvest Seeds. Pacific has a reputation for stocking good genetics, and I've been waiting on a decent White Widow auto, so why not, we gave them a shot. A bit pricey, but guaranteed delivery in five days and an excellent catalog, almost entirely west coast genetics. Yay.

Zkittlez Trichome Shots

Loving this new scope. The wider lens cap makes it so much steadier. These are all hand held trichome shots. Third picture has the sun streaming in from the right, looking very shiny! Last picture is a bud, my first try at a "portrait" setting shot. I guess it blurs the background and allows foreground focus only. Pretty cool I must say.

SPUD BUD

I'm so pissant happy with this crazy hybrid. Here's what Strawberry Pineapple Upside Down Banana Cake looks like when she's frosting up and just beginning to show a smidgen of color.

Here's two ring of Spud shots from different perspectives a little.

I second this!

Ok, I get it. You're going to make me work for it. Did you call it something that I can at least use the search function for?

*******
Edit: Nm. Here is the relevant post for those lazier than I am.
Thanks Azi!

@Jon on top of everything else, you find the best gear! Those hand-held shots look great. I'm going to get one now since these others don't seem to last that long, I'm already on my second.

To butcher Casablanca, of all the grow journals here when I joined, I stumbled into yours on my first try. It was a lucky stumble you've helped me with lights, nutes, additives, seed banks, scopes and I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff. And you do all the research I'm too lazy to do and drop it here in our laps :thumb:

Keep on rocking my friend :lot-o-toke:

@BubbaKush909, I'm honored. And your good luck was actually my good luck too. You add a lot to the fabric of the 420 tapestry my friend. Your consistent positivity and striving to be the best grower you can be is inspiring and could be looked at as a blueprint for how a newish grower gets good fast.

Hey on the gear, all this is is a decent $40 cheapie, and there's dozens in this price range to choose from on the Zon. They are all about the same quality in the $40 range. I got this one cuz it can be static and held in place with the tray like in the picture or hand held on the plant, and it has a wide lens and cap which makes it easier to steady on the plant. But they do work fairly well for the money and if you don't drop it it will last a long time.

Fulvia Scale Shot

Ok, so this is one of the smaller, side colas on Fulvia, one I can actually get to instead of just admiring from afar. The bigger buds (most of the colas) are significantly longer/bigger. Some of them have like 18-20 nodes worth of cotton balls, one on top of another like this one, which will all grow together. I've never seen anything like this live in my tent before, just in some of y'all's journals. This one has about 12 stacked bottom to top. These buds are going to be gigantic, and you guys are going to think Titan is chump change. This plant and Elora were and are the main feature of the grow and the plants that really matter to me (they all do, just sayin). Pre releases from Ethos that hardly anyone has ever grown. Flying blind on any strain specs, all we know is that it's Watermelon Zkittlez x Wedding Cake. My first big coco plants that were intentionally trained to the tent and grown properly, vs. the hodgepodge thing we did last time. Lots of reasons I love these guys and they matter so much. Anyway, in this picture, my pinky is pointing to the bud that starts the one bud cola. From that cotton ball up, the cotton balls are all either starting to gel together or touching and will shortly. You can't even really see the top here, but if you had a duplicate of my hand in the same position with fingers a little spread and stacked it on the first hand, that's about how big the bud is. HUGE. And the fact that this is half the size of the main colas of the plant, maybe 22-25 of them, just makes me crazy. Again I have no idea what this tent will yield (assuming we bring every bud in the tent home bud rot and bug free), but I do think it would be safe to say it's going to destroy any yield records I may or may not keep. Lol. If I pull more than a pound from the tent I'm going to be happy, and I think this may happen, it's only 16 ounces, and Fulvia and Elora may take care of that by themselves. I can't see either plant being less than half pound plants. Yikes! I'm getting seriously crazy.

Hi Jon. :ciao:
Did read somewhere that you are interested in photography as a hobby. And for sure what would be a better subject than own plants!
Photos looking great and all the pics taken under the sun light when you've got the 100 CRI looks way better. But too much sun light "burns" the lightest colors of the pics. Its basicly just aperture set too high and/or too long shutter speed.
Also you prob already knew all this but re-saving .jpg files packs them every time more and more which then fucks up the image quality. ..As has happened to a few of your pics.

Have a nice friday!

Zkittlez Frost Explosion

I don't know what's going on with this Zkittlez. Very late development. Now she's just showering out the trichomes like it's her job. The frost has literally seemed to explode in the last two days. When I put the plant back in the rig a while ago (cloudy today, rig is better, rarely) I noticed we're now frosting up like a crazed hyena and the buds are getting all oily and glisteny. I have not seen this out of the Sohum before, and I am wondering if the amending the Sohum with the Geo Veg, Geo Bloom, bokashi, frass, and teas are responsible. I have to think so. This is excessive frost for a Sohum plant in my experience. Here's four closeups to show you what I mean. These buds are not wet.

Hi @Verbalist, and thanks, man! No, I don't know crap about cameras or photography, what you just told me was all new information. I see what you mean though. Not sure what I can do with a cell phone camera, even though the editing program is pretty good, and then I have another I put it through when I download to the computer. There's no aperture settings or anything like that as you would have on a real camera. Yes, it's an interest and may well become a hobby. Right now I'm just trying to take the best pics I can for you guys (and me) and I mess around all the time with what I have to mess around with. lol.

What's the 100 CRI you refer to? I agree the sunlight pics are always the best, as long as I don't overexpose the white spots. And often I think I am lightening the overall picture too much in the editing. It's a work in progress, but thanks for the attaboy!

Hey @Verbalist, I just actually digested this:

No, I did not know this. So if I understand you correctly, when I download a picture from phone to computer as a .jpg and then edit it and resave it with some title, that's packing the image more and more with each save and degrading the image quality accordingly? Do I have this right? If so that's easily solved. Thanks!

Ahh I thought you had a camera.
CRI = color rendering index. From 0 to 100, and the higher the value the more natural the light will show to the eye or through the camera. Natural sun light is then obviously 100. And for example these full spectrum led lights have often about 60-80 CRI. And I believe the single color temp between 4000-5000K has the highest of 90 CRI.
Good thingy to understand when playing with the artificial lighting. And google for hundos pages more about it. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Yes if you actually edit the image. For example tune the brightness or sharpen or w.e.. Actually might happen if you literally just open it up in the editing program and re save it without doing anything. Can't remember right now because being blazed af. Just had a huge bowl.
But ye if you want to edit them more than once I'd recommend to save them as a projects first and .jpg or .png when youre finished.

Well now you know and both has lots more info when you google it.

Testing @Verbalist!!!!

Here's a bud off Titan that I took the picture of, and did not run through the editing program. I just edited on the phone and sent to the computer and now this is as is, with a .jpg number instead of title. One less save than my normal pictures. Clearer?

Zoom it in and you tell me! :bravo:
Your cell has a very decent camera. And another thing is sharpen. Trics might pop up better but it easily makes the pic grainy.

I'm learning! It seems there's two "sharpening" features. One just makes it look sweet. The other does exactly what you said, makes it grainy if it is too high. Yes, this picture is much better, DAMN I had no idea so much was going on in that bud. Lol! Thanks so much for the help man, greatly appreciated!!!
