Jon705's Multi Strain HPS LED Hybrid System

If you've got 70+ watts per square foot I wouldn't defoliate at all...Those leaves serve a purpose, each & every one of them!

Not sure if you've ever grown scrog style but when its done right you have a branch every 2.5 inches and around 8-12 inches above the screen, basically a SOG grow with larger plants, you have no choice but to defoliate no matter how many watts you have, theres going to be 5-6 leaves per branch overlapping like a lasagne lol..light isnt the only problem, the leaves lay on each other and sweat causing the perfect conditions for PM,Botritis, bugs ect ect..defoliation is a part of scrogging.

Yeah, I can't see a way round it with a scrog. I was thinking the other night of really aggressively defoliating one half of my current plant when she's in flower and not really defoliating the other half. If it's all to do with the fans feeding the bud sites vs light to bud sites the sides should be very different, even on the same plant. Will be an ugly plant though, but I think I might do it, just to get more of a idea
that would be pretty cool GK you should do it:)

very nice jon, amazing looking plants, id love to have the room you got but i just dont have the space,

how are you finding the leds your using, i might start looking into them, not sure how many i will need though so will have to look into this

Thanks DP:Namaste:I love them, led's are the way to go imho, if you get good ones and take the time to learn the differences of growing with them theres no reason why you cant match or exeed your current results with hid lighting.im still learning but I think im on the right path this round, cooler temps are the way to go and spreading the plants out instead of defoliating, both seem to be working great:)

remember how you used 2 levels of screen, maybe dont train them to have 40 tops each, instead train them for 8-12 tops each and use the first screen to spread out the main branches and install the second when the stretch is done to support the colas.I think this way the leaves wont be as tight, just remove the odd one here and there where its needed:)

thanks jon that sounds like a solid plan I've done one round of topping so I should have the 8-12 now. got about four inches to the first screen . roots are looking awesome. :)

+reps your the man.

:Namaste:

Jon, what do you consider the essential differences between LED and HPS growing?
My rooms have been in a constant state of change since I bought the led's so thats kind of a hard question for me to answer but I ll give it a try.Less heat and hydro you already know, with led's the nugs will appear smaller but are denser so they shrink less and weight is comparable plant for plant.Trychrome production is better with led's no matter what strain im growing.
Plants will use more cal/mag under led's but for me they use pretty much the same amount of everything else, Im feeding them full strength BPN right now.its late im baked and thats all I can think of right now bro lol..Im sure I ll have more for you tomorrow night. I ll be on the lake all day tomorrow in a pike tournament:)

I do scrog and if I did not defoliate i would end up with a huge mess.

Indoors since the light is stationary removing selected leaves is important for airflow and for light penetration.

Not all strains need that much some need a ton. I never top mine and just remove the uppermost fans as it grows to about 32-36 inches.
when it gets to that point flip them and lollipop em at 21 days and defoliate the canopy some at day 42.
each strain is different so always take that into account.

Come by and check out my carpet of green if anyone wants to see a scrog full of buds. in my sig.

Enjoy the lake jon and catch a guiness booker

Happy Sativaday Jon and Mrs.705
hope you catch ya a 60" 35pounder:)

Lookin good jon, those cola heads look awfully wide!, is it me....or are they wider than usual right at the tips? I'm happy for you that the labor intensity has dropped off a bit......Howz momma?
mommas good bro thanks for asking. They are huge for 37 days!Mostly different strains than last round and the ones that are the same are alot bigger now that the stools are gone, I should of made the switch along time ago:)

I was out back this morning cleaning up the aftermath of the auto harvest and I was looking at this massive(for northern Canada) Blue Hash plant and decided there was no way it was going to fit in the greenhouse once it starts to stretch and that it was probably root bound so I transplanted it into a 100 gallon hole give or take. I used some of the loose promix from the autos to fill the hole and its a good thing I did!
Hows that for a rootball!

Im still going to have to tent the plastic above her but its alot better than it was.

I used 9 20 inch tomatoe cages to spread her out, its like 9 seperare plants!

I knew I liked big bottom ladies! Damn Jon I've never seen roots that big, but I've also never seen a plant grown outdoors either. Nice work bro can't wait to see that monster finish.
