Joe Grows In The Big Show

Here's what he has. He bought from a friend for $200. I have ZERO experience with MH/HPS lights.

The smaller light has a ballast built in for 400w. The other ballast is adjustable 250 and 400w. He is wanting to build a room in his basement. He thinks he wants to try DWC. We want to go perpetual. How much area and plants can we do with these lights? We have a roll of mylar also. I was thinking 2 rooms? What size and how to build the rooms are what I like knowledge of. Ideas, thoughts and suggestions welcome from all. Thanks

Just for a reference point, my grow area(scrog) is 38" x 40" and I have 2 of the 400 watt MH/HPS lights covering 4 plants. I run them about 12" above the plant canopy. Those lights are inside a 5 foot x 5 foot tent. That seems to be just the right size to maximize bud production.

I hope this helps you out.

That would be perfect. Are both your hoods the same size? His has 2 different size hoods. The 1 with the built in ballast is smaller and has a 4in port. The bigger hood has the adjustable ballast and gas 6in ports. 1 has and MH bulb (the bigger 1) and 1 has the HPS bulb. Are they different to run perpetual? Or can we run 2 at once like yours?

So 1 light, 2 plants? Or 2 lights, 4 plants?

Thats right. The MH would be for vegging 2 plants and the HPS would be for flowering 2 plants. Set up a little germination/cloning area and boom you're perpetual.

Thanks. What size rooms or tents would be right for those size lights then?

My friend wants to build 2 rooms. 1 for veg and 1 for Bloom. 1 400w light in each room. 2 plants in each room. I have ZERO experience building a grow room. We have some mylar and 2in framing boards. I'm thinking both rooms should be 5'x5'. We were thinking of taping the mylar to back of some fairly think black plastic for walls and ceiling. I need to know about negative pressure, is it still required in a room since it's not a tent idk how that works. Also, can some tell me the best to add door and any suggestions to help me get this right. Thanks everyone.

You can use velcro strips to fashion a door, Ledrf at growpotcheaply.com built a room from panda film/mylar and did a video showing step by step how he did it.

I think your friend has made a good decision. What your describing should work very well for you.

Negative pressure is always a good thing. It insures you're getting good fresh air exchange in the rooms.
