Jimi's Maui Grow

Jimi's Maui - White Russian - Jack Herer Grow :smokin:

Its been my intention to faithfully update when ever there was something new. But Buddy keeps making plans & decisions and then changing them. I finally gave up and waited for what ever was going to happen to happen.

First off, buddy now says that the White Widow is White Russian. Thats fine with me if its true because I prefer White Russian. Here she is and shes doing fine . . .

The three mothers (mothers no more) have been moved into the flower room and the light set at 12/12. They are at day 4 of flower.

The Maui's are doing well. You can see a couple of gaps where I took clones.

The flower room is 12x8. With the light off its staying at 78-79 degrees with 70% humidity. When the light is on I have an air conditioner that keeps the room at 78 and the humidity stays about the same. I have a dehumidifier but I'm not using it right now.

The light is a 600 watt HPS. We plan to add more light as needed.

We want to be as organic as we possibly can. But we are willing to stray a bit if the situation calls for it.

The soil is Black Gold Potting Mix 0.05-0.0-0.0.
I've got two kinds of Guano and right now I'm watering with Super Tea Mix from the Guano Company 5-5-1.

There are no known problems at this point. I guess that covers the flower room so I'll move on to the veg room.

The Maui clones (majority of box) at day 15. They started showing root growth about 5 days ago but are not looking very pretty right now, I'm told that is normal. The 5 White Russian clones (5 along right side) also are developing nice roots and looking happier than the Maui's.

The newest surprize for me was to come home about 4 days ago to find 12 Jack Herer plus a couple extra clones. The Jacks arrived well rooted in rock wool and were immediately transplanted into 5 gallon buckets. The medium in the buckets is layered.

Easy Green Hydroton Clay Pebbles

So the plan is to keep the strongest plants we get out of the various clones and to fill the flower room with as many as we can after harvesting the three plants that are in there now.

As always, any advise or comments are welcomed.

I think that all cannabis plants show preflowers when the are old enough to flower. I remember reading that in one of my grow books. Those ladies are just telling you that they are sexually mature : D

Pretty plants!! I will be watching this one for sure. Good luck with your buddy. I had a similar issue with an old roommate but he shut his mouth when I gave him the end product of my work.

Re: Jimi's Jack Cough Grow

Guess what? Yep, things have changed again. The bad news first . . .

Remember these?

One night shortly after posting these the a/c threw the breaker (it was on its own 15 amp breaker, now changed to a 20 amp with no further problems). The light stayed on as well as the de-humidifier. When I went down to check on things the next morning all three plants were laying down and looking shriveled. I immediately watered the hell out of them and waited. By that afternoon one of the Maui and the White Russian were standing up strong and looking only a bit worse for the wear. The other Maui was bent almost to the point of snapping under its own weight. I did some first aide and splinted it but it just wouldn't come back. But I was still happy to have the ones that survived. A couple of days later Buddy comes over and decides that the two survivors aren't worth saving when compared to the cost of running the lights. i disagreed, but he pays the electricity for the grow. So he made some clones of them and pulled the plants. He had never made clones before but would listen to no input so i shut up. We ended up with 4 useable White Russians and 1 Maui. Then a couple of weeks later he decided to pull those and just go with the Jack Herer (which he now says is a Jack Herer/Cough). I insisted that we at least keep a couple of the White Russians because I like having more than one strain to smoke. He gratiously allowed this.

The good news . . .

Remember these ?

This is them now . . .

9 Jack Cough and 2 White Russians, fimmed and about 1 1/2 weeks into 12/12, under 1000 watts

I know you can't tell because of the light, but their color is perfect imo. The two tallest plants in the rear are the White Russians.

Buddy wants me to water these twice daily. I think he's nutz. I've was watering them once daily. The de-humidifier and light were drying them out. But I have temporarily stopped using the de-humidifier because that was causing the a/c to overwork and the compressor would shut down. The humidity is @ 72 and I know it needs to go down. We need to find a way to vent the de-humidifier. But Buddy says that the hot air needs to be returned to the room. I say it can be vented. Input would be greatly appreciated.

------

Buddy decided he want to have a long term mother of the Jack Cough so he picks the worst of the bunch and tells me to use it.

Mother under T5

Yes, I know its stretched. I don't like the color or the way the leaves are turning down.
jackcoughmother3.jpg

I watered her yesterday with some guano tea. She looks a little bit better today.

Buddy will be here Saturday. So who knows what my next update will be like.

So the decisions for me are:
How much/often am I going to water the flower room.
Whats wrong with the mother and how to fix her.

I think the problem is your buddy!!!!!! Can't you cut him:rofl: I think watering them once a day is to much IMHO.. Not sure about the spots.. But good luck with the grow, and your " buddy"...

He's a male, either pluck off his gonads or turn him into butter.

Jimi, you deserve better...but what can one say? The ladies are looking great; hard to believe you could salvage that from such a mess.

Watering shouldn't be on a twice-daily schedule unless necessary. I guess you could try 2 times a day and see if they suffer. To me, the mother looks overwatered, but I'll let the experts pass judgement.

Best wishes buddy.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate them :smokin:

As for the watering issue:
I decided to disobey Buddy and do what I knew was right. I've been watering every 3 days.
It was the right choice :smokin:

We vented the light through a charcoal filter equipped with a strong fan. Its vented into my central heating ducts. There is no smell in the house, and its helping to keep the house warm. It makes enough of a difference that I haven't had a fire in the daytime yet and its been chilly enough already.

No more a/c. no de-humidifier:
lights on: 71-74 degrees
lights off: 62-65 degrees
the humidity is staying in the low 40's

I know I'm going to need to add some heat during lights off. I have an electric oil/radiator heater that i can use or I could put the dehumidifier back in on its low settings and the warm output air might be enough to heat the room, thus killing two birds with one stone.

The ladies are filling out nicely . . .
jimi0062.jpg

This is the White Russian, which at this point are maturing faster than the JackCough . . .
jimi0065.jpg

By a fluke of the lighting you can get a good idea of the actual colors . . .
jimi0068.jpg

We do have buds forming on the JackCough too. You can see their sorta actual green color where things were shaded as I took the picture . . .
jimi0070.jpg

The JackCough mother plant just kept getting worse and worse until I decided it wasn't worth the cost of the light so I pulled her. Buddy says not to worry because he can get some more JackCough and Maui clones. Who knows what the next grow will be. But it will get better each grow I do.

About a week ago there was some yellowing of the leaves that would start getting dark splotches. I diagnosed this as an N deficiency. I sprinkled some guano all around the top of the soil on each plant and then added a bit of soil mix about an inch deep on top of it. I watered as usual and the next day saw improvement. I wait until a leaf is about half gone and I remove them. I haven't seen any new yellowing since.

I have some magnesium I can give them but I intend to read up some before doing anything with it.

I really don't want to add anything non-organic if I can help it but I will do whats necessary.

Right now everything is looking as good as can be. I'm happy :smokin:

Buddy is happy too. He said just to do my thing and that he was gonna be busy for quite awhile and that I might not see him again until harvest time.

Damn, they are filling out!

Good job man. They look wonderful. :peace::ganjamon::peace:

Sorry about procrastinating for so long. i intended to take some more pics but things got crazy on the home front and i also had some health issues.

the grow finished up well. we ended up with 9.7 ounces of nice buds.

we had been told that the jack would probably shrink about 50% when dried and that was true. but the buds are very dense.

the next grow we're going to try doing the Maui again. i'll be starting a journal soon for Maui 2.0

Very sweet and potent looking buds there buddy. Great job on producing your own medicine.
