Jandre2k3's Darly Project

Alright, we now officially have 2 seedlings. To ACTUAL above surface seedlings... Now let's just see if I can keep them from damping off, shall we?

I still feel bad about the last one I did that too, so NO MORE OF THAT!

Designations are final

D15 and D09 are in the running for Darly. Who's next, hmm?

I hope you have a lot of room!!!

:cheesygrinsmiley: I have the room needed... now... It seems that I had mites long before I noticed them. They claimed three of my mothers, and a few of the clones. Either that, or the combination of the treatment, and the damage they received did it. Luckily, I had clones of all but the Purple Widow mother, so I didn't lose much in the strain department. But yeah, I have room.

Ahh yes the mite blight and you are a master of control :cheesygrinsmiley:

Master of control? Do you mean keeping things as small as they need be? Well, I've had to do my best at it, and I think I've finally got it down. :cheesygrinsmiley: I wouldn't say "master" but I think I'm okay at it. I have done bonsai training for several years, so I know a thing or two about small.

Mites help at that, really. They suck sap and when a plant can't store/keep enough for growth, it goes sort of dormant and stalls growth...

So.... GAWD I HATE MITES THOUGH!!
I cant stand mites. Little bastards are the scum of cannabis.

good luck jandre
I'm with you!

For fast growth D15 is by far the best performer. That puts it at the top for breeding for speed. That also puts it at the top of the list for possible males. We shall see how the smoke is if it is indeed a female, and tailor a smoke around the speed.

Remember though, with speed, often times comes sparse nodes, so all of my previous statement is contingent on vigor and structure.

Of course, all this is conjecture, and it could all be changed in the next few weeks, but those are my hopes, and that's what I'm sticking to. A great man once told me, "Believe it to be, and soon enough, it will be. Sometimes if we truly believe something to be, we in a way, will it into existence."

Seedlings have been moved to NICU for observation for a couple of weeks, then they will be transferred to Neonatal Care and kept healthy, and begin "Hardening Off". For now, they're in humidity and temperature controlled environment, carefully monitored.

They'll be spaced out better once all of them have emerged, and growing normally.

And a close up of the new babies:

A few notes:

  • When this all started, I began the numbering system by size of bean, D01 being the smallest and D28 being the largest. I had hoped that would help in differentiating Indica from Sativa strains. The sort of muttled logic behind this is that indicas finish faster, and therefore have the smaller beans that the longer-lived, and slower to finish sativa sisters, which in my mind would create a larger bean. This could be flawed logic, I know, but hey... I'm trying something here.

  • 25 has some blonde tips on the cotyledons. This concerns me for longevity. My anxiety for that one is eased by a perfectly normal first set of leaves.

  • Although D27 emerged a full day behind D15, it has caught up with, and almost passed D15 in height. Since these are most probably "Regular" beans, I'm on the lookout early for possible males. Since they grow faster, and mature earlier, D27 is quite high on that list to watch for.

  • Even though I might have some males, I will NOT be culling them. I will be sequestering them for breeding purposes.

  • When the seedlings emerged, I put them into the NICU with nothing but water under the false bottom chambers, not touching, but just enough to keep humidity higher than normal to keep the roots from drying. I have added no other water to the plants themselves than that which was used to soak the cubes originally.

  • I want to grow these as straight up as possible, but I need to take a clone of each one to put into the box for sexing purposes, and for an early look into flowering characteristics. I will be doing this once they reach 5 true nodes (not including the cotyledon junction).

  • As this is my first largish breeding project of unknown and different strains in a hydroponic system, I'm a bit daunted by the task at hand, and any pointers along the way from some of the other breeders on the site would be greatly appreciated. If you breeders out there see me doing something unorthodox, please let me know. Alright, I know I'm seen as a maverick on this site, notorious for doing things differently and known for the heated debate, but I really will take it into advisement. Just tell me what, and why, and I'll listen.

Awesome story! What a way to honor a loved one :)

14 total.

Had to transplant before quarantine and hardening off phases were complete. Dehydration was a major issue, and I almost lost 5 seedlings today. But y'all know me, I'm obsessive about checking little ones, and I actually saw one droop over. 1 of them may not recover, still but, I managed to save all the others.

Maybe they won't need hardening.

sweet. This is fun watching. keep em green

I'm with you! I really like watching little ones grow from beans as well. It's always tense when I transplant, but they're doing well, except for the one that I thought wouldn't make it. So that's a total of 3 that actually broke surface that we've lost, and I think that's the end of it.

13 Alive still. :cheer:
