InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Here's a late Friday/early Saturday update on a nutrient I'm not fond of, no longer recommend, and can't mention by name! But I bought 22lbs and $77 of it in early 2020 so I like to find a way to use it.

And why today? Because today I fed the two Le Creme CBGs, and I gave them the equivalent of 1.125g/gallon of MC (that's the full strength veg 4.5g/gal cut by 4).

Let's take a look at the MC that's been sitting sealed in the bag (except when I use it) for quite a while now:

Yuck! It's so wet I could probably wring it out. It has the consistency of brownies and the smell of a barnyard. I tossed it and dug out the bucket with the rest of my stash:

This was put away back in February of 2020 with a container of DampRid:

Looks good as new:

So this time I put some in a sealed jar and I'll see if it stays dryer in there.

I'm not sure if I'm going to grind it up like I did earlier this year or just deal with the balls. I get the feeling that grinding it made it even more hydrophilic.

We'll see!

Have a great weekend all.

I store my gray matter in Mason jars. It stays in fairly good condition when sealed tightly. This one is nearly 3 years old and still loose.

Thing is the balls to powder ratio is way off. I've got a lot of balls. :)

Mine has the balls in it but not damp but I left the dehumidifier on 52% all this time nothing has been growing. I let the mixer beat the balls down . I wouldn’t grind it doesn’t look that bad at all .

I hope the seedlings like it more than you do...🤪

Kind of like a Jadam grow!
Probably! Also like a bag of GeoFlora. My wife has always hated the smell of MC so I stopped mixing it up at the kitchen sink. :)
Thats wild my MC got hard as a rock like N will , well my 35% did anyway . And its humid as shit most time here outside . It was 2-3 yrs. old
I somehow thought the sealed bag was sufficient but obviously not!

I can't spare my actual mason jars for this so I hope the glass jar with the saran wrap and plastic lid will do.
I've got a lot of balls.
That's what she said!

I only ground it to make sure I had an even distribution of powder to whatever is in those balls, but I think I'll just wing it for a while.

So far so good! Even though I don't recommend anyone actually buying it, I'm thinking it works well enough by itself in veg that I'm going to try it for this grow. For flower I'll go back to calculating.

What is actually in the mystery concoction? This is one chapter I missed lol. I have seen many references to the mystery concoction but no clue what is in it. I am just wondering what nutes it is giving your plantlets.

Ahoy There,
Just catching a bit of your conversation.
from a distance it sounds like you have problem with storing mc hehe
@Grand Daddy Black has a solution.
but even with jars you need keep sealing threads clean and dry
When you used oven bags to cure flowers, you also had a viable container for your mc
I have had some great runs with mc base for a lot less money than some others.

just sayin 👩‍🌾

I got lots of balls

Greetings all! I've got a late Monday and pretty dull update today. It might not be of interest to many but I wanted to at least put this here for my records.

About a month ago I broke down the rootballs on the summer grow, and while I was doing it I figured why not do a slurry test on the FFHF soil. Here's what I found...

Trainwreck:

Purple Urkle:

So I went to the bag of FFHF and tested that:

5.2pH

First, my combination of nutes and water had moved the pH up from the starting point, but I was starting at least a full point below than Fox Farms claims to pH their soil (6.3-6.8), and also well below where soil should be. So whether it's 5.2, 5.6, or 5.9, it's still not where it should be for a quality soil.

Cause of the browning leaves? We'll never know, but it's still wrong!

So before I sprouted the winter grow I went and got a new bag of Fox Farms Ocean Forest, which is pretty expensive soil. And of course, I slurry tested it before I used it. Here is the bag:

Here was the first test:

I thought I should run it again to double check:

Still low! I decided to see if a hot tub test strip would confirm those numbers:

I see that as below the 6.2 color, so I'd say it did!

In order to raise the pH of the soil before I put my new sprouts in it, I added 1 Tbsp/gallon of pelletized dolomite lime:

I'll stick with that formula until just before I upcan from 1 gallon to 5 gallon pots, at which point I'll do another slurry test and see where it lands.

Sorry for the boring post. I'll have pics of the winter grow on Wednesday! :ciao:

Well, I'm assuming that she does at least some of the time, and also assuming if you did you didn't really mind since you used to prepare it there.
She does, and she always seemed to want to be there just after I mixed up my MC in the mornings! Timing is everything. :)
When you used oven bags to cure flowers, you also had a viable container for your mc
My turkey bags are more porous than the MC bag was for sure!
I have had some great runs with mc base for a lot less money than some others.
I hear ya. I will be trying to run these with just MC for veg. I've got a lot to go through!
I got lots of balls

So, what pH would make for quality soil? I've never grown in soil, but the Mrs keeps telling me it would be easier... not that's she ever grown anything 🤭
