InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

They will be treated identically and watered as they need it. We'll see how they do!
Looking forward to seeing the comparison.
In other news, for a few weeks now they both have been doing the guttation thing, all over my desk at night:
Huh. I see wetness on my plants every once in a while. Wondered what that was!

Monday update all! Today I'll just stick to the Candida clones and then tomorrow get some pics of the Trainwreck and Purple Urkle.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was going to keep the rootbound solo cup Candidas in case I thought of another experiment to run on them (since they didn't mind daily spraying with citric acid), and Saturday I thought of one: root pruning.

@StoneOtter did it in a pretty big plant in his last grow and I've done it on mother plants in 1 or 2 gallon pots, so why not a real solo cup comparison?

Here are the subjects before:

I'd say they were pretty evenly matched set for a fair test, yes?

Here are the roots to be pruned:

Here's what came off with the box saw:

And here is the pruned rootball:

I replanted it in new FFHF packed in tight along the edges and bottom:

Then I did a hard trim on both to keep them the same since I needed to do it on the root pruned one:

They will be treated identically and watered as they need it. We'll see how they do!

In other news, for a few weeks now they both have been doing the guttation thing, all over my desk at night:

Also, since I mentioned that I was curious to see if buried stems do indeed grow new roots after transplant, here is the new Candida mother:

Looks like new roots above the original ones that grew out of the bottom of the stem in perlite, so the answer is a qualified "yes!" I'll take more pics as things change.

And finally, for those over 18 years old (or the legal age in your jurisdiction), mating butterflies:

:thanks: for cruising by for a visit!

Thanks greenjeans, it sounds like you really have it dialed in! Can you use it to boil water and make spaghetti bolognese when camping?

:thumb:

Old school works too. :)

Great basement review Tim! Hardly anyone in SoCal has a basement (earthquakes would be my guess), but with new construction techniques I've seen some new houses are getting dug down low. Having lived in apartments my whole life until we bought this house, it's the thing I really wish I could have.

A walk-in closet in the main living area is a much easier place to control the environment, but keep in mind it will need to be vented to somewhere. A lot of folks will vent to the attic where possible, but with a good filter you could vent back into the room if smell is an issue.

Sounds like a plan!

Busy with plants and posts ain't too bad, and harvesting every two weeks is a lot better than every two days. :cheesygrinsmiley:
You grow the best roots Shed! Nice work sawing down the Candidas and fitting them back in solo's!
I have a Candida note. One of mine is seems to be much more resistant to bugs than the other. The wide one has a harder time with them and I have to keep on her. The taller one I sprayed with sns 217c a few times and the problem appears to have slowed to the point of only watching! Pretty cool! Have you noticed this in any of yours?

Now that I know that this is a thing, that solves the mystery of the odd droplets I sometimes find on leaves.
I've also seen you do that root sawing thing to great effect. I hope that the clones give us a nice side by side comparison

In and out for a quick Wednesday update! Couple of issues at work that have been a time suck, but I wanted to get these up before they were old news...

Here were the Summer two yesterday on flip day 35, starting with the Trainwreck from @Weed Seeds Express:

Very floppy (you can see some of the lower buds are upside down!) so I've tied it up a bit since then.

Here is what came off when I trimmed it on Sunday:

Purple Urkle yesterday:

And what came off that one:

That's it for me today. I will try to catch up on y'all tonight and tomorrow! :ciao:

Very interesting about the root pruning, Shed- you take a big ol' bite with that saw- seems like it'd kill them, but I've seen you do it before with great results!
So far they still look identical. :thumb:
they're working on the next generation of caterpillars
Har!
Hey Shed melon patch kicking butt Saturday a week ago we got 3/4” rain . Field was dying then Monday I had to take mama for more surgery and that night we got another 2-3/4” rain . When mama and I got back Wednesday night I guess the rain that hit Dallas we actually got some . Grandkids had to go back to school so nothing got done with the flooded fields. Well it busted out growing again so I had to hire help and been so busy I’m beat ! They don’t taste as good as the July melons weak taste but there still buying them .
We're used to tasteless fruit these days, so you keep selling and we'll keep buying! 💰
420 Magazine St, Pulaski, VA 24301 on sale now for $95900. Isn’t that cool .
Nice little house on a neat block. If I sold mine and moved there I would take the extra cash and buy that great field across the street and then give the rest of the money to the local high school so they could put my name on it. :cheesygrinsmiley:
Girls are looking great a little yellow on the one ,but that’s never hurt anything and there straight out feeding off the sun .
I'm hoping they keep bulking up over the next 4 weeks, especially the PU. And that's one smells really sweet, like candy really. 🍭 First one I can recall doing that!
Wouldn’t this sound better put a road down the middle and call it 420 Magazine Drive and the branch roads 420 Sponsors Drive , 420 Journal Drive and etc . Now that’s a dream then the work would all be over sell lot by lot .
Truth is I’d rather be here growing with everyone!
If you were our neighbor we would let you do all the growing for us, no doubt there. :adore:
Hey. Nice job. I liked the overgrown clones in the solos. Very cute.
Cute is just what I was going for. :thanks:
Your plants are clearly incontinent.
Mebs, but like old dogs (and hopefully old men), we still take care of them.
Just like tomatoes. Bury them deep for an extensive root system.
So far so good on that!
Disgusting!
You Midwesterners and your porn aversion!
Burn them with 🔥
Pluck and squish, pluck and squish!
I saw you talking about them and ran away.
We figured you wouldn't see it given how often you're here these days. ;)
Looking forward to seeing the comparison.
Thanks Grateful! So far so good. :slide:
Huh. I see wetness on my plants every once in a while. Wondered what that was!
All thanks to @Amy Gardner for that bit of knowledge.

I haven't noticed that, but my Candidas are all clones of one of the first two plants I grew. I bought 10 seeds and gave 8 away to those in need. Nice to be able to do that again, but the genetics will start to show variations from mine.

Thank you Carmen! Nothing like clones to really show us what's what in an experiment. :)

Wha they are so young yet so big great job Sensei Shed can’t wait to see them blowing up with buds!

Highya ITS,

Those are looking huge!! You must be getting lots of sun! They look fat and gorgeous! Pleasing to hear your evaluation of Purple Urkle's aroma. Makes me want to grow some. TrainWreck sounds better to me, sativa with the pine taste. But, it's for you and yours. Happy Smokin'

They both look great Shed. And a plant that smells like candy -- well, I know I'd really love that. (But that's assuming I would be able to smell it, which ain't guaranteed. :) )

Did you conclude (if that's not too strong a word) that the root aphids were the cause of the early yellowing bottoms on your plants?

Thursday root update on the Candida perlite clone buried 3" deep:

Looks real to me, so...not just a rumor!

Dang it read it as day 34 didnt see the flip portion of it my bad >.<
LOL! Nice stacks on a 34 old day plant too. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks Bode, been sunny and hot these last few weeks! I'm growing the Trainwreck because my wife likes the vape carts of it, and the Purple Urkle is to get some new indica in the bedtime jars. Finally ran out of the Peyote Critical, and Berry Bomb and Bedroom Cookies are getting a bit long in the tooth. I might toss those into a bucket for dry ice hash.
Puff Puff Pass
LOL!

Thank you GDB! It's rare that I can discern any specific smell from a plant other than skunk, so this one is an obvious standout.

Given how often my plants yellow in flower I don't think I can conclude anything really. I'm lowering the Mg and raising the N and poured through all that H2O2 and have been watering with SNS 209 for the last two weeks (just stopped this morning), so it's a kitchen sink approach as usual.

One day I hope to find out why, but since I'll be taking a break this winter it will be spring before I can give it another shot.
They're growing like champs for a Wednesday!
Thanks Otter! Gave them two Thursday gallons this morning (of a new mix) because it's going to be in the 90s today. 😓
Bulking up really Nice , good job !!
Thank you sb! The TW has more weight on the ends but there's still a month to go...

I know we've been through this before. I'm still not getting it. I'm sorry my memory is letting me down these days. Are you 36 days from flip? Is that when you call "flower", or do you start counting when you see pistils? I mean you, personally. I'm comparing my buds with yours and I'm on flip day 35. If they are the same age in flower, yours are monsters compared with mine. Stunning plants as usual Shed!

They've been in flower for 36 days today and above ground 134 days...is that young?
Wow! My outsides have only been in flower for about two weeks and don't look like that. That pis was taken about 10 days into flower. I don't quite know when it officially starts.
Where about do you live to be 30 some-odd days into flower?

PS. Nice clones. Will have to clip my Bonzai Mum soon to continue phase lll of my perpetual.

Keep up the good work. I finally got some clear solo cups. And with all the goodness I have learned from you all the future endevours are looking bright!

:thanks:

:ciao: High Shed. Can you do me a favor please? I need to calculate the potency of the gummies I make and the Old Bear worksheet I have bookmarked is locked for some reason. Do you have a usable one you could post (and then help me with the math later :cheesygrinsmiley:)?
I am curious about that also..... Please share, gummy (sugar) bear!

Your a legend sir so if anyone can do it it’d be you lol hope your having a mighty fine long weekend!

I never count pistils, just days since flip. In terms of the size difference, mine were in veg for 98 days or so in 7 gallon pots in the sun. Don't expect to be able to compare another grower's plants to yours as everyone's situation is different.
High Shed. Can you do me a favor please? I need to calculate the potency of the gummies I make and the Old Bear worksheet I have bookmarked is locked for some reason. Do you have a usable one you could post (and then help me with the math later )?
I can PM you the spreadsheet link if that's okay, but I won't be able to run calcs until tomorrow.

My plants are schlepped out into the sun every morning (in Los Angeles) and then inside at night, either in the shed or into a tent in the house. So I flip my plants using light deprivation rather than flowering them with the sun.

Nice work getting the clear solo cups...really simplifies those early days.
That's a gorgeous plant btw! :welldone:
Girls are looking great shed! Loving the two experiments as well.
Thanks Tim!
Your a legend sir so if anyone can do it it’d be you lol hope your having a mighty fine long weekend!
Lol thanks Coffee! It's way too frickin' hot this weekend (high 90s) and the tips of my plants are showing signs of budrot (pics tomorrow), but it's nice not to be working. :cheesygrinsmiley:
