In The Lab

I need your advice Doc. Anyone else, feel free to chime in.

I placed these two in the tent planning to veg them an additional month, and like a total noob neglected to switch the timer, and didn't notice that for a full ten days. So, my dilemma is in the drench scheduling. You recommend that after they go dry the first time they get an Energy drench, followed eventually by a Transplant before hitting them with the CAT. The problem I'm up against is that these two are ready for the CAT right now.

Can I get away with hitting them now? My concern is obviously in waiting too long. The bud sites are set, which is my cue to go with the CAT. Any thoughts?

Give them the trans. I have started giving the Cat drench about day 24 instead of day 19ish like I used to and I like the results. Give them the trans and they will love the cat when it's time for next watering.

Thank you Shiggity. :hugs: It was your eye I was trying to catch. After I posted I realized I'd done so in the wrong thread. Sorry Doc. :battingeyelashes:  They're ready for one, at long last. I'll get it going now.

Yep. Transplant. Then Cat. The one on the right could maybe use just water and not transplant. It looks a bit salty.

Thanks Doc. They already both got the Transplant, but a bit lighter than normal since I'm planning the CAT within a week. Could you explain what you mean by salty? I'm still new to these terms and this art, as a matter of fact.

This is another of the same strain, about a month ahead.

It's a CBD Critical Cure. I think it looks a bit yellow, but that was what the last ones looked like too. Is there anything I can do to improve her leaf color, or should I even be concerned about that?

You'll be pleased to learn I'm getting the humidity and temperatures under control, at long last. Came into a couple good humidifiers, and that made a dramatic difference. These COB lights give off so little heat that I don't have the temperature swings I used to get. It's a pleasure growing with your kit. Once I let myself let LOS go things fell into a sweet routine of boring drenches and foliars. :laughtwo:

What I mean by "salty" is that the leaves lack lustre, there is some clawing and they look fragile compared to what they should look like. It's due to the soil being too salty, which in your case is almost certainly the result of low plant metabolism due to the environment. It's hard to overfeed them.....over zealous use of foliars will also result in salty soil, but you have to really push it for a couple runs to get there.

It's the environment in your case, and now that it's better the plants should turn around.

The leaves on the CBD Critical are much more fragile than I'm used to seeing. Are you suggesting it's caused by environment? These plants haven't been subjected to the crazy fluctuations I had that brought me the visitation of the Borg, which I've eliminated through strict isolation and clean practices, thank goodness. That's a frightening experience to open the tent and see the buggers encasing a plant in webs. Never want to be there again.

Could it be genetics?

Doc, I just realized we're talking about different plants. You said "on the right" and my brain translated that to "on the left" when I looked at the picture. God, it's frightening sometimes when my brain does that.

The one on the right is my Carnival, a sativa expression of the strain. It's not a common pheno, you're more likely to see ones like Dave Groomer, Rad and TheRedDragon have going. I can't figure out what caused this clawing or the crazy leaf texture. I'm used to kit plants having more luster to the leaves.

Any suggestions on helping her get to a healthier state? I have a clone of this one, trying to save a rare expression for another run. Would I be advised to try another seed instead? I've never had one take this look on.

Don't worry bud! I had that same "light bulb moment" too...many of us first timers just need to work through it and it'll all come together.

Sometimes we make mistakes but just like in life...you brush yourself off, get back up and next time don't make the same mistakes. No biggie, life goes on and we learn and grow. :thumb:

Well said Beavis, this is my experience too!

Amazing DL! And your first grow ever? Man, I hope I can be so lucky.

Do you have a grow journal?

Thanks Beavis! Not my first grow, but with DBHBB gear it is. I grew Aero for many years...just followed a recipe and bingo...but never results or the aromas I'm getting with Docs gear. Plus with aeroponics there was so much more to deal with...ph, ppm, Rex temps, power outages, etc. After this first round I can say that Doc's system is very forgiving, inexpensive, comes with the best customer support you can ask for, and produces top shelf produce! That's a REAL DEAL in my book. Can't wait to sample these girls after the cure. Gonna chop tonight at 60 days.

I feeling more comfortable with all of the drenches and foliars, and getting a handle of what to do next...staying ahead of the grow.

Journal?
Funny you ask, I'm right around the corner from starting a journal...I think It needs to be a perpetual journal, as that is how I grow, and I have plants going at all stages now. Coming soon;)

DL

It's absorbed better on the underside, but no harm is done if it gets on the top too.

An added benefit of spraying on the underside is that mites are made unhappy.

Thank you Doc. I've been spraying both the underside and top but didn't want to spray the top if that's not your recommended protocol. :thanks:

Right on, let us know when you get the journal up...I'd like to follow along! :high-five:

I'm trying to run a strange pheno of Sour Grape (BOG seeds) and I also have issues like you do. I'm thinking of scrapping it and germinating more seeds too.

But in the meantime, a good pure water plus Tea flush, chased with a transplant drench should do the trick. There may still be some mite action which will also slow the metabolism of the plant as well.

that being said, we're talking about a plant that's going to grow and harvest....it's not like it's about to die!

This is true. She's going to give me a decent yield, regardless. This characteristic confuses me. The texture of the leaves is almost feral in appearance.

As far as I can tell isolation and processing the plants into oil the day of harvest got rid of the mites. I see absolutely no evidence of them in any of my spaces. It also gave me an oil that was dramatically better than anything else I've produced, so the mites did me a favor.

Doc, they just got a Trans drench today and I was planning on the CAT next. Do you think it'd be ok to flush her today and hit her again with another Trans? I've never flushed a plant before. Kinda lost on that process. Any pointers?

Place it where it can drain and pour about 2-3 gallons of water through it....chase it an hour later with a half gallon of a normal Transplant feeding. Resume regular feeding.

Thank you Doc. I'll do that right now.

I have to share. :laughtwo: I went into the tent to get the Carnival. This was my CBD Critical Cure before her Trans drench

Doc, you made this obsessive hobby fun. :battingeyelashes:

Solo is the way to go for sure! And it's the 420 model! Perfect!

I went with the solo 419. But I considered the 420 :)

My light bulb moment was making it down to the bottom of my first bottle of Grow Energy and finding thick stuff -- I hadn't been shaking the bottles before use!

Now that I shake the bottles before use, my girls look much better fed :)

Rad, they both got a Trans today. I've flushed the Carnival and I'll be giving her a follow up Trans drench with less water. I also treated her to a DeStress foliar.

Don't feel bad, I forgot to shake my first bottles too. It was my first time with bottled anything and it never occurred to me until I finished the first bottle and found that sludge in the bottom. Face palm moment deluxe.

I ammended my post wihle you were replying, cause I went back and reread your post the correct way :)

I forget about DeStress. It sits on a shelf with my spare bottles, extra scissors, etc. I've only used it once shorty after my first transplant as a preventative. Watching how happy the plants are, it's just not routinely needed.
