If you could get high with Anyone - Past or Present - who would it be?

Re: If you could get high with ANYONE (past or present), who would it be?

The last meeting of Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals. I've always wondered what actually happened. And, all things considered, they could probably all have used a few tokes from the peace pipe.

Re: If you could get high with ANYONE (past or present), who would it be?

The person you choose does not necessarily need to be a known smoker. Who would you love to get high and have a deep conversation with?

Here are a couple of folks that I'd love to get/ have gotten the opportunity to chill with:

1. Hitler: I know what you're thinking and you're off base. I would have liked to chill with him and tell him how equality rules! Maybe I could have saved a few million folks in the process.

2. Chris Rock: One of the funniest, most intelligent people on this planet. He is my President.

What about you?

I think I would have the biggest MF party because I would choose EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T TOKE! That way we would all have a blast and they would shut the f*ck up for a minute!

BTW although I admire your candor the only way to have saved lives with the moustachiod one would be a bullet to the head! If your skin is not lily white he probably would have you killed before you would have time to ask him for his roach clip! JMHO Now if this was a thread on S & M I'm in! LOL

There are still a few around IMO:rofl::grinjoint::peace:

All of the monkeys and apes in this country are certainly NOT in the Zoo!

I'd love to smoke with Derek Trucks and get him to show me how to play slide guitar! And meet his wife, Susan and smoke with her too.

Never heard of him Downunder here but I'd love to sit in on the slide lesson.:thumb: I'd love to meet a good steel guitar player. Those things would be kinda cool to try with all the foot pedals and stuff. Never really had a close look at one. Pretty rare down this way unless ofcourse you hit the Tamworth Country Music Fest. I'd love to check it out. Whoops:offtopic::thumb::peace:

Derek is the son of Butch Trucks of Allman Brothers Band frame. Butch was arguably one of the greatest slide guitar players of all time. Derek has followed in his footsteps. He's terrific! He now plays with the Allman Brothers Band from time to time. You got a be old, like me, to know about that.

Derek is the nephew of Butch Trucks, one of the drummers with the Allman Brothers Band. As a child he learned guitar from Dwayne Allman, the best slide guitar player who ever lived. He has his own band, the Derek Trucks Band, and he plays SLIDE with the Allman Brothers now, and also tours with Eric Clapton as back up slide and with Warren Haynes and Government Mule.
Many say he is the best living slide guitar player alive today.

His wife, Susan Tedeschi is awesome blues singer too, a mix of Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin. Google her on youtube.

Butch is a drummer...........uncle to Derek.

Speaking of Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks...

Yeah, I could toke with those guys

Re: If you could get high with ANYONE (past or present), who would it be?

Thats cool. Duane Allman sure was ONE of the best but there were a few before him like Bukka White, Leadbelly, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters and Elmore James. Eric Clapton is cool and Ry Cooder can slide too. Does anyone know what tuning they're using in the vid. Drop D? Sawmill?
All I do is play guitar and grow/smoke and care for me ole Mum.:thumb::peace:

I know for a fact that Duane Allman played slide with his guitar tuned to open E.

Warren plays in drop D, and Derek is usually tuned to open E.

Funny we're on this topic. There's a doco series on TV about American music narrated by Morgan Freeman. Lastnight's episode was about all the famous blues guys and the legendary" Robert Johnson Crossroads" story. They also showed Buddy Guy. Man what a "loose unit" that dude is. Man those guys really knew/know how to "rock it proper." I've been thinking about getting a cheap lap steel for a while and having a good play around with it. :grinjoint::peace:

Re: If you could get high with ANYONE (past or present), who would it be?

McGrunge, I just keep coming back just to watch and listen to that Vid again and again.
I love SLIDE and am very poor at trying it. They make it look so easy and it is not. I'm sure they are the two best living, well, got to add Ry Cooder, the very best living slide guitar players still around today. I love Warren's voice too, sort of similar to Greg Allman's voice. Thank you very much for posting that.

As much as I love Derek Trucks and Ry Cooder, my favorite slide players will always be those old Delta boys: Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Son House, etc. Roy Rogers is another favorite of mine, check this song out:

Yeah, I know what you mean. When I first saw that video, I replayed it about four or five times just to let it sink in.

Re: If you could get high with ANYONE (past or present), who would it be?

That's another awesome vid and slide player, Roy Rogers..

Warren and Derek recently played a very small club in Atlanta together but I didn't hear about it until afterwards.

And what about John Hammond, he's another great "still living" slide player.

I collect old Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson, Sonny Patton etc, etc, blues greats music.

Re: If you could get high with ANYONE (past or present), who would it be?

You listen to any contemporary blues artists? The White Stripes, The Black Keys, and Radio Moscow are really great, but I suppose more in the vein of bands like Cream.

Thanks for reminding me about John Hammond, by the way. I've been meaning to look into him for a while, but I kept forgetting his name. I think I got him confused with the old guy from "Jurassic Park" lol
