Icemud Goes LED - Featuring Top LED Grow - Cherry Pie GSC/OGiesel/SFV OG/UVH OG

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

Hey everyone, just wanted to give a quick update...

Last night I harvested my Ogiesel.... I knew this one was going to be a very poor performer, yield and quality since it never wanted to cooperate in the scrog screen, and just refused to get large like the rest of the plants. Still some very nice looking tops on it and the quality will be nice, but it definitely would have been nicer if she scrogged out like the others...

Well cut down, manicured, washed and hung!

Here's the photos.

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

Hey BillyJack! I really am happy that you are interested in my journals and have been getting a lot of good info!! I appreciate that a lot!!

As far as my soil recepies, I would not suggest following them by any means. Each grow is experimental, in which I am trying new things, making adjustments, and such, and with High Brix Growing, the proper way to do it is to start with a soil test. I didn't do this, and so this is why I say don't use my soil mixtures. Using a soil test to get to high brix is like using a GPS roadmap, where my method is like using a compass and heading the right direction, but may be completely off by miles...

So with that being said, I wouldn't follow my soil recipie unless you want to have issues with your soil, constantly fight issues and such. I would suggest going DocBud's route and using his kit. His kit has been designed to use with Promix HP, and he did get a lab test done, and the lab recommended things to add to the soil, then him and many other growers have been using it and tweaking it to get the best results... That is the way I would highly recommend to go for high brix.

As for your question, yes the crab meal, and crab shell meal were duplicates, same thing but listed 2x on accident.

As far as your other question, if I had more OF or promix... the additives would have been virtually the same.
oops :)

Hey man, thanks so much for the response. I am learning a lot. Just to set your mind at ease, I am going to use Doc's HB kit. It was ordered and received last week. One of my many faults is that I have a compulsion to understand all of the moving parts. I plan on using Doc's kit for all of my serious grows. His customer service is great and the product is put together very well. But using his kit does not satisfy my need to understand they "why's" behind what is going on. Plus, I cannot start my next grow until the end of July so it gives me time to study. I am a firm believer that you cannot be truly good at something unless you understand why you are doing what you are doing and what the impact is.

One of the first things I did was copy all relevant info from your journals, I then researched all of the ingredients that you use so I understand why they are used. Just doing this really helps me understand the process. I know you say your soil is not perfect but your grows are pretty damn close to perfect. I have a batch of soil made up and also soil from a small forest next to my property that I am sending off for testing.

Thanks again for the help and the journals

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

Great question, I unfortunately don't have an answer though. I personally am not concerned with my light source "producing more" than another light source. My main goal with lighting is "am I giving the plants full spectrum, but the right wavelengths and intensities". I am a firm believer that plants use all spectrum of light, even green. So for me, when I look into LED lighting, I want to see full spectrum, which means purples, blues, reds, orange IR, UV-B and whites. To me quality is top priority, yield is nice if its large, but I would trade a large yield anyday for top quality nugs, this is why I use the standard spectrum.

Now as to your question about red/bloom only... I can't comment since I have never used a "bloom only" LED. best I can say is to try it out and do a side by side, or maybe someone already has.

Icemud.....thanks for your honest answer ...I will continue to.watch and learn from ur journals....thx

You and me are very alike in that way. I too am one who wants to understand all the elements of something as a whole. For me by understanding the complexities, then the rest makes perfect sense... I still am trying to understand it all with High Brix, there is a lot to know and most of it needs an organic chemistry major...LOL :)

Very happy to hear that my journals and info have helped you out... For the very same reason that you want to learn everything, Is why I chose to "pioneer" my own route to high brix, I wanted to understand it instead of just buy a product that works.. :)

I think this is all of our goals :) I can't wait to find the perfect balance...probably will be years away from now, but getting closer with each attempt :)

Do you have your soil tested prior to each grow? I ask because each soil recipe seems to be a bit different.

Thanks

Congratulations on your harvest!

Thanks King JohnC! I appreciate it man!

Honestly no soil testing yet, Not really sure why besides sometimes money not in the right place at the right time or, sometimes I think I pretty much change it up because I like trying new things and seeing what happens. I do plan on doing it though in the near future to see what I have been doing vs what the soil lab recommends.

Re: Icemud Goes LED: Featuring Top LED Grow: Cherry Pie - GSC - OGiesel - SFV OG - UV

So just a quick update. My GSC is done drying, buds are crispy on the outside, and still just slightly moist on the inside, I'd say 80% dry, so I decided to cut them off the stems, they weren't snapping yet, but very firm before they broke. I weighed each plant separately and then put them in the same jar. Overall the buds were not as dense and hard as last time, but also have to finish drying and curing so I think they will tighten up some. They are however very sticky, and very stinky! smelling up my whole house! Anyhow I will keep them jarred up for the next few weeks, and burp them as needed. Usually I do this when the buds get moist on the outsides, and leave the jar open until the buds get just slightly crispy on the outside. Then I close the jars and repeat when needed.

I weighed each plant just for curiosity, and I would say even though they have a little drying to do, the numbers shouldn't change much at this point.

So GSC 1 (front)
yielded: 48g

GSC 2 (back)
Yielded: 62g

Not as much as I had hoped, but its GSC, so it never seems to do much more than that in my tight setup. Still a very potent smoke :) Can't wait to try :)

My Ogiesel is still drying and probably wont be until another day or maybe 2 until it hits the jars. Also very fragarent!

Appreciate it. I am the same way. I like to learn new stuff and then try to make it better/different. I learned how to make golf clubs and messed around with the weighting of the head, shaft, grip. Made clubs with different shaft lengths. I made a setup clubs so all of the clubs were the length of the 7 iron. You have to modify the lie of the club but it works surprisingly well. Learned how to make paving stones, decided to add different material and colors. Learned how to make beer, wine, rum, moonshine. Lots of options with the alcohol on things that you can do. Wooden boxes, different sizes, woods and hardware.

Thanks again for the help

LOL, yea we are definitely similar, I'm too a "jack of all trades" type of guy. Its fun to have the freedom to explore interests to the fullest, I still have a ton of things on my to do list that seems to be growing daily.. lol

My best accomplisment/self taught interest was around 16years old I went from using a tape recorder held up to a beat and rapping into it to make music and hear it back to over the course of 12 years, starting my own recording studio and started working with some of the best in Chicago, just cause my name was moving around as people started saying that I had the best sounding vocals in all my mixes.. (I never got tired of hearing that) From there moving from chicago to southern california to work to run a celebrity owned record label's studio and eventually on to working with quite a few of them and even mixing a whole celebrity album that still is talked about today as one of the top 5 albums from that artist...All self taught, all because of a passion, a focus, and action! During that whole time not including all the extra business stuff I learned negotiations/contracts/artist management/advertising/marketing, I also worked all kinds of jobs from construction to parts counters to office jobs to screen printing, to sales, to drafting to, painting, valet, photolab,....LOL and the list goes on... I've mastered the art of having many skills :)

I'm like a Swiss Army knife! LOL

Icemud, beautiful harvest! Congratulations :)

Thanks DrZiggy!! Still got 3 more to go, but they keep wanting to shoot out white pistils and keep growing so I keep letting do what they want...LOL, but I think the Cherry Pie might come down tonight or tomorrow. It seems to have reached the end of the line!

I can't wait to harvest the SFV OG, man I am going to get a large yield, but not only that, the nugs up close look fantastic!! Stay tuned my friend, more excitement to come!
