Homer's Legal 4-Plant Max Perpetual Minimalist Garden In Ontario

I just stick the cut in a solo of coco and water just a few drops every 2-3 days. I don’t use a dome of any kind and get about 80% to root. The biggest problem is moisture causing rot.
Very interesting! That is surprising because I don’t recall ever hearing or reading about anybody who didn’t use some kind of a dome for humidity.

Do you pre-soak your coco before you add your cutting or are the few drops every couple days the only moisture you add?

Pre soak your coco before the cut goes in.
I figured so but I wanted to be sure. Do you give it straight water or add some nutes and I assume no rooting hormone?

You don’t need a dome actually
You're blowing my mind because I have never heard that before. You are usually right so I will try it out. I think you are right about the rot.

Do you use any nutes in your rooting method? I ask because the dude in the article just uses plain water to start and claims spaying the leaves with plain water helps dilute the nutes in the leaves so the roots search for them stimulating growth. Could be total baloney the reasoning but it might work. I will try both methods, his and yours.

We send cuttings in a baggy with no moisture that will go a week and just need a little water to rehydrate
I read that people send cuttings through the mail and wondered how much water they add. Interesting to find out it is none.

No nutrients until roots appear.
That is interesting because the guy in the article agrees with that so maybe that's why both your systems work. I actually gave my cuttings 3 g per gallon MC because being cuttings and not seedlings I figured they could take it. Maybe that was my mistake because I have had better luck in the past when I think I was only using 2 g per gallon and maybe at some point none but yes, maybe the secret is none until roots appear.

It can’t take up nutrients without roots.

Interesting, I always assumed they would be absorbed up the cut stem. Duh. Explains why my leaves yellow so much while I try and root them.

Penny has got ya mate, the best luck I have ever had with clones has been without a dome :)

I am starting to believe and will for sure try it out. Appreciate the input Celt. I haven't heard of anyone doing it without a dome so I am pretty surprised. I assumed a cutting would just wilt and die without the dome keeping it hydrated. Weird, but I will give it a go.

Try it and just keep your medium moist but not soaked. I use and 18w T5 type light set on 18/6
I have been keeping my medium pretty moist hoping to stop the cutting from drying out and wilting which I guess was the wrong thing to do. Also, I have been using a lot more light than that. I'm surprised any of mine have survived, LOL. I seem to be doing pretty good for a while; seems to vary a lot for me strain to strain.

But yes I will definitely try your method. Thanks for the advice. I just assumed most everybody did it the way I did with the dome because I learned that long ago.
