Hey Stage: Where Ya Been? Fall 2017 DBHBB Perpetual

The kit grows good weed. I have tried 3 strains grown in it and all three were great. Probably a bit more flavor than I am currently getting from my soil, but my soil is getting better. It grows great weed as well. I think my smoothness is right there with it.

I do taste tests from weed a buddy of mine brings me to try. I can always tell mine from the smoothness and taste. But i just can't quite get the flavor I get from the three strains that were grown in the kit. Now in my soils defense, I haven't tried the same 3 strains grown in my soil. I have two of them going so I can do a real comparison.

As far as potency and effects, I am more than pleased with my soil. I will hold its own against most anything i have tried. If I can ever manage to tag along down to Jamaica, I will see about trying to have some of my stuff brought down there for Duggs and the others to sample.

Whatchyou runnin for soil Stanks? Mineralized? LOS? C'mon c'mon...spill da beans! lol! :)

Thats it! *runs to take a peek at Stanks Dank Den*

Its a version of LOS with lots of minerals. Tweeking the ratios of things here and there with each version. 2nd batch is better than the first. Had issues with my soil pH fluctuating a bit too much in conjunction with my shitty tap water. I swapped out some amendments that drifted pH upwards with stuff that is neutral or drifts down. Since then any time I check run off (something I rarely ever do) I am getting about 6.4-6.6. where as it would drift up to the 7.5 range on the first batch. I started collecting rainwater and since I have been doing that I have been water only except for 2 doses of ACT in the last 2 months. The rainwater is a great input for the soil too.....and its generally in the 6.4-6.5 range when I have looked.

Got a pound off the Northern Lights monster in a 15 gallon pot I harvested a couple weeks back. Not bad for some homemade soil and rainwater!

If the old blogs were up you could check out the original recipe I used (which has been altered as I said above). I am also introducing vermicomposting to the soil after its been run. I throw my used soil in the bin with all my food scraps and a few other things and then it gets put back into rotation. Looking forward to seeing how the VC stuff does.

My goal from the beginning is to make a soil I can use water only from start to finish. Next step is automated watering.....then I can be completely lazy and just spend my time training them when I want to. I am the consummate lazy grower. The less time I HAVE to spend with the girls, the better. That doesn't mean I don't like to, but I just don't want to have to!

Totally agree with you Stank. And it's basically what I do. I run a Coot style LOS and RO water only, although i purchased a Boogie Blue filter to remove Clorine/cloromine from tap water. I just haven't hooked it up or used it just yet. :)
I then hit it with AACT teas, and Seed Sprout Teas (usually corn, or whatevers on hand). Maybe scratch in some worm castings and craft blend in for a top dressing for flower.
*knocks on wood*
So far so good! I still have to work for a living every day and sometimes don't have time to spend with my plants, even if I wanted to.
A water only regiment makes things so much easier for me. Not saying my way is the only way...but it does work for me.
Just my two cents worth...

Exactly how I feel. I like spending time with my girls......but on my term, not theirs. Like today I was bored so I sat and did some LSTon a plant for an hour as I watched some NFL training camp. I can chill and do it if I want....or I can leave them be to their own and they will be fine. I know at some point I won't be stuck at home nursing my back, so I want my system as simple and labor free as possible.

As long as I can pull 5 zips on average per plant, I am good. Might get 3 zips off one, or 16 off another one, but running 12 plants in a perpetual keeps me supplied with a nice variety. And I love the quality.

I am trying to increase the brix levels achieved in my plants, but it's not there yet. Even if I can't, the quality of the buds is top notch and my costs are about as minimal as they can be. I can likely get another 2-3 years worth of growing out of the initial 400 buck investment in the amendments. EWCs are about the only thing I have to buy at this point.

Hi Van, just wanted to throw this in in case you haven’t come across it before - for calcium (which has a big impact on brix levels as we know) the ratio Doc recommends from very early on when he was developing the kit is 6 : 5 : 3 of carbonated calcium, soft rock phosphate and gypsum. Your soil is massively more rocking that mine was, but when I did the mineralised blend into LOS style I noticed a big difference in the plants grown in my second batch, where I got that ratio right. I hadn’t cottoned on to that ratio on the first lot, and it was good. But the second was much better in terms of terp expression and subtleties of the high. Just thought I’d share in case - that ratio for my calcium amendment really seemed to be the ticket to me :thumb:

Yes Amy...Doc's 6/5/3 method! That's when and how i got started with Doc's gear. Tried his mineralized soil method(6/5/3) before switching over to his 'kit' that was just started at that time. Both methods work great but of course, he(Doc) worked out a lot of kinks with his 'Kit' and he advised me to give it a try back about 6 yrs. ago...i did...never look back!Cheers woman...enjoy this beautiful day would ya....Oh , my bad....great mornin to ya Van!

Yeah thats what I am kind of playing around with now Amy, is the calcium ratios and the minerals and mineral ratios. Its getting there...and it will continue to get better. I figure I have a lot of years to perfect what I am trying to do....I ain't going anywhere! And I love getting my hands dirty!

Thanks for the info sistah!!
