Here I Grow Again

Some pictures of the mother after an extreme (for me) makeover:

Carnival mother: approx. 125 days old, 14 since flowering tent, 3-4 since pistils:

State of a top:

She's still a bit unruly, but with far fewer choices of directions to grow, she may come through for me yet.

I'm trying not to think of my first grow ...
Waiting and waiting for sweet stenches and sightings of resins ....

Any day now ... Any day now, then nothing.

It's not going to happen this grow too ... I can't, it mustn't.

I know to early to expect that from this one, but how about this:

Carnival cut 1: approx 75 days old, 23 days in flower tent, ~15 since pistils.

Shouldn't this be starting to get a little stinky, even a little resinous? I put my nose right up there and take a good sniff, and I smell ... plant. Not like grass, or evergreen forest, except for a little bit of the mossy smell underlying the conifers. And dirt. I can smell the dirt from a foot away, so my nose is working, but no pot. A little bit like geraniums , but milder.

Hopefully in a few months I'll be looking back and laughing at my nervousness and insecurities.

Cheers!

Ras

I see signs of serious trichome development going on down inside the sugar leaves. Got me real excited. :laughtwo: The scent will come in and you'll be intoxicated with it. I dream of that smell. Gotta get these tents up this week.

What are the white spots on your leaves?

she just had a deep drink of water and a misting of destress. I think you're seeing tiny water droplets.

Whew! Thanks for the quick reply. I sure missed having you around. :hugs:

I hesitated to ask, with your angst over the progress. :laughtwo: I'm hoping you manage to get the kit when you expect. It'll take a lot of stress off your mind. Getting a decent harvest would be nice too, huh? Hard to beat a Carnival harvest.

:ciao: Rascio! Good to see you back and growing. :)

I took a quick fly through some pictures and read a few posts, but will go more detailed over the weekend.

Don't fear, you will have stinky soon enough. And I agree, that there appears to be trichome development deep in near the stems on those leaves. Your pistils could be hiding much of it right now, but I believe I see it.

I'll catch up over the weekend, and just wanted say..you labeled one of your pics "modern family". Love that show!

Hi Cannafan!

Welcome and thanks for the encouraging words.
:welcome::passitleft::welcome:

Of course you and Sue were right. Even my eyes can see a light dusting of trichomes on the most developed buds now. And they're even beginning to smell a little like weed. I can smell pine now for sure.

Even the geranium smell that I reported had to be a good thing. After I posted I remembered that geraniol is a precursor to THC, as well as a whole bunch of terpenes.

Do you guys encounter that smell just before things start getting stinkier?

Don't bother reading from the beginning. Mostly it's just me airing out my insecurities. I'm one good harvest away from my usual cocky, know-it-all self. And besides, I started this journal mid grow too!

Cheers!

Meanwhile, there's some plants in my small tent.

My plans for the next batch of flowering keep changing. I have nine more carnival cuts, some taken in late veg, and two were taken in after flowers began. Here's one:

This cutting is basically unchanged from when it rooted. It's been in a 5" pot til today, when I transplanted up to a gallon. I was pleased to see plenty of Roots, so it'll be interesting to see what happens next.

I think I'm going to play with growing multiple plants in 4-6 27 gallon totes. I'm going to try to grow 4 of my carnival cuts as big as I can during the current flower cycle, and flower two of those per tote. Third tote will be for the remaining cuts, and another 1-3 totes will be for multiple Silver Haze × Silver Haze seeds that came out of my last grow.

Silver Haze × Silver Haze seeds, getting for a soaking.

IMG_20160722_080336.jpg

The floaties in the honey jar are from a mushed up aloe branch. I'm soaking 30 seeds. Well see how many seedlings germinate, and of those, how many will be girls.

I'll be ordering more high brix kit supplies from Doc Bud next week. I want to try some other methods too, and I'm toying with the idea of converting one tote to a bubbling hydro thingy with 4 or 6 holes cut in the lid.

I am also thinking of ways to turn one or two of the totes into a portable scrog. I can just fit 6 totes into my 5×5 tent, so next grow I'll be playing with different methods to increase production.

Busy busy busy, and loving it!

Cheers! :peace::passitleft:

Wow you sure have your hands full, don't you?

As I was working my way through the last weeks posts I was asking myself why mother Carnival was so droopy. Was it over watering under watering? But then BOOM there she is on post #27 all perky and ready for a night out, just stunning!

You have such a great handle on things here Rascio that I don't think you give yourself enough credit for. :bravo:

:thumb:

Got my eye on you big guy.

Your Carnivals make me droll and want to get back to cleaning the space for my tents. For your portable scrog idea, I'd suggest you talk to Jay and arteekay. Jay seems to have a knack for that and the two of you could kick around some ideas.

Good job on the mushed-up aloe. :high-five: Always searching for another challenge, are we? There'll be lots going on once you get all those seeds and cuttings growing. We seem incapable of growing just a couple plants. What is it about this species?

I think has to do with the fact that once we start growing our own quality medication we quickly learn that a couple plants just doesn't cut it.

The possibilities are endless when we grow on our own!

Cool, thanks SweetSue! I don't think I've visited either of their grows. I'll fix that. :thumb:

I'm not ashamed to admit that my plans to scale up my grow are done, in part, in the name of lucre.

I'm not keen on concentrates, and I think, if I were just supplying my own meds, I could get by with my 2'×4' tent for flowering. The truth is, I want to develop this passion into a steady income.

Cannabis improves lives, opens minds, and brings out the rebelious spirit in a society tamed by fear, reality TV, alcohol, video games, and porn (in no particular order). Cannabis users are, I think, far less susceptible to eating up the toxins that 'the man' is keen on feeding us. So really, providing better quality weed for friends, patients, former dealers, anybody, makes the world a better place, and improves the chances that one day, enough of us will get fed up and revolt!

If I can be the go to guy for quality bud amongst my circle of friends, and use part of the proceeds to pay the bills, that works for me. Meanwhile, a larger scale grow will provide more avenues for experimentation.

Cheers!

One little difficulty with clones: it's really hard to tell them apart!

Post #27 is the biggest cutting. Here's the mother today:

Carnival mother: 17 days 11⅓/12⅔, 7 days since pistils:

She's still a bit droopy, but recovering after another heavy watering (about 1½ gallon) and mist of destress. She's drinking like a sailor, and looks like 2 days is about half a day too long for her. I think it'll be daily waterings from now on. All the others, even the ones bulkier than the mom, seem happy with water every 2-3 days.

PS. Nice tape repair job on today's vid! And way to represent our people with that world class hoot!

Cheers! :peace::passitleft:

Haha thanks Rascio!

I was desperate and in need of a quick fix. This is a road I've been down before so, I was confident that it would work.

Thanks for the love! I never realized that my hoots were "abnormally" large until all the comments. :lot-o-toke:

:high-five:

So I have a few little projects, aside from scheduled maintenance.

Road trip yesterday, and I liberated some young willow twigs from the ditch. Willow water coming up.

Got around to sowing my 30 aloe water soaked Silver Haze F1 seeds. Hopefully I didn't drown the poor things ... They soaked for nearly 48 hours before I found the time.

I finally selected one of my carnival cuttings to serve as a long term mother.

I think I mentioned that my original plan for the mother (now flowering) was to grow her bonsai style. This one is in for a rough, but loving, and hopefully prolonged, life.

I have been following Light Addict's grafting project with great interest. If all goes well, my poor little carnival cutting will, in addition to supplying carnival clones for a good long time, be used as root stock for other strains I want to preserve.

I have a dozen Ace seeds tropical mix that I'm chomping on the bit, wanting to germinate, but this must wait for a more stable environment and room for mad breeding experiments.

HI I came along too... aloe good one !! also good quality honey is good for dipping cuttings into, to not rot and grow strong roots. Even banana peels. helps in many situations I am collecting a lot of info I will be sharing soon. It needs some research first.
I notices the jar with cigarette buds... I have one of those too :)
"bud tea" on the way.
Your ladies look absolutely lovely!
