Henman's Soil Sour Diesel Grow Journal 2013

Hi Henman! Your girl looks lovely- very well trained.:thumb:Thought I might tag along- interested in your grow cause I've got a couple sour diesels that are a couple weeks younger than yours.:peace:

Thanks and welcome aboard flower!
I'm quite pleased with the training, actually. She's responding very well and doesn't seem to mind being bent around! It's not the ideal formation, but as good as I could get it with my complete lack of planning ahead :P
Subscribed to yours as well, well excited to see how you decide to train your darlings!

You'll like it LA, it's not the best I've had, bet a very nice strain, with a nice flavor.
Hey budy looking nice! My gerts highest point for a while was a doubled back main stem, still pretty much is lol. Your training will give you some nice bud! +I just got 2 diff types of sour deisel beans a amhurst sour d and a Humboldt sour d. He he, so I take it I should be happy with em lol

She's looking very happy man :) I was hoping we'd see an update soon, but yeah life likes to throw spanners in the works occasionally.
Thanks! She's starting to shed one of her lowest leaves though. I'm not sure if this is an early sign of any def or just shedding of an unnecessary leaf. I'm leaning towards the latter however, since the adjacent leaf is not looking nearly as bad.

This means much coming from you! Yeah I hope it will, the buds are looking very small right now, but many days are ahead so I'm keeping my hopes up!
Yes I believe you will be most pleased!

Ditto!

I think you're right about the yellow leaf henman. My first grow had leaves along the bottom of the plants yellowing and dropping off during flowering pretty regularly- just the plant using up it's own resources for bud formation I was told.
Love the tie-down you did to her btw.

Yes, it's starting to look like it! Almost the entire leaf and its stem is now decomposed, and the adjacent leaf still hasn't changed a bit. I suspect it will fall off in the next 2-3 days and return to its origin :D

It's quite the panicky training, but it warms me to hear you appreciate it :) I tried my best to form her after the footprint from the reflector and it seems to be working ok. A fun side to the entire thing is that the branches has constantly rotated to adjust and as such the branches have become spiraled! I'll see if I might post some pics of it later tonight

Good weed to everyone stopping by today!

A tiny update I think is in order. The hen is getting pretty thick and with it strong. Discovered this morning that she had broken out of one of her restraints, and even threw the wire into the bowl of humidifying water in pure protest! :D

It wasn't until I tried rerestraining her, that I discovered that she'd gotten too strong. Not even a double loop around her stem worked so I had to coil two wires together to get her back down

Anyways! On to the more exciting news! In my opinion, anyway ;)
I got a pretty good deal on a portable microscope today! 60-100x magnification and built in LED. Beats a loupe any day I can promise! Got some pretty decent photos as well, but it was way difficult to take them. Can't wait until she really starts throwing crystals

Hey I never thought of a portable microscope, I was going through some stuff yesterday and I found a jewelers loupe but it's a bit of a pita to use and was wondering what to use instead. The wire you're using looks a bit flimsy, I've been cutting up plastic coated clothes hangers, pretty hard for a plant to escape that. :)

Day 24 since 12/12 and the girl got another haircut today.

Can't tell for sure if she's growing after schedule or if she's stunted or slowed in any way, but she's throwing new pistils every day so I'm happy :thumb: And I guess it can only get as big with only one 36W CFL
Either way, here's a comparison pic of the largest of the colas. Is it too early to predict harvest size yet?

Yeah, the wire IS flimsy indeed! But it was free and that's all I can afford actually ;)
As for the microscope, yeah it seemed like quite a good idea at first. I learned a hard lesson today however. The little transparent piece at the end of the microscope was in the way, way too much, when I inspected the pistils. I pressed down too hard and now pretty much half of them have turned reddish brown. The image below doesn't do reality right, but I hope a little bit of it can be seen.
Am I right in guessing I killed the pistils and they won't come back?

Subbed up here Henny.

You can base your harvest on the amount of light your giving her. Probably a few grams, maybe a quarter ounce.
Well shucks. That means the cost of the entire grow will far succeed the value of the harvest.
I am going to buy a Y splitter and another bulb to double the amount of light, though.

I have a similar scope 3 quid or free with a magazine for kids.science lol was all I could find here.
Haha damn I'm starting to hate this country. You could just about get a regular 3x loupe for 3 quid here

And after you purchase anything it's yours for many grows to come!
