Heirloom's A Little Bit Of Everything - 2016 Journal

Just to play "Devil's Advocate" for a minute on the seed bank & breeder issues, which I do agree with...

Think for a minute how many seeds are ordered and killed by noobs who just don't know what they're doing?

The first 50 pages of my first journal is me killing seeds and blaming everything from the breeder for selecting bad seeds, the distributor for not offering replacements, STG for being a crappy medium, and the post office for possibly radiating my seed package.

Somehow, these days, I'm able to get seeds through the mail and get the majority to germinate, even when I use the STG cubes! :)

My only point is that, I can understand to SOME extent that no one wants to guarantee that their seeds germinate.

There is a big difference, though, when they all germinate and 100% are males, IMHO.

There's also a difference, IMHO, between a known/experienced grower and and unknown/noob/anonymous customer, which is an argument to try, if possible, to create some relationships with some of the breeders & distributors in the industry and/or sponsors on this site.

I think, if they know you're an experienced grower and you tell them you received a bad batch of seeds it will carry a lot more weight than from someone unknown to them.

It's also an argument to get into cloning & breeding to become somewhat independent. Even though I haven't started my breeding program yet, I look at all seed purchases as simply an investment in genetics.

From my first order of 10 seeds, I easily harvested well over 100 plants from cloning, etc.

It's much more expensive if you're purchasing autos or buying seeds just to grow a single plant and replace it with another seed. And, it really blows when you only have one seed of a specific strain you want that doesn't germinate!

In short, ANY/ALL bad seeds suck, but just part of growing! :)

Oh, I agree K. Newbs and even experienced growers can put them through hell. But go a step back, before even germinating. Taking the seed out of the pack I thing everyone should get a seed that looks proper, well developed with a high probability of germination. As a breeder you can't guarantee every one is going to pop, but as the breeder and seller, you can do everything possible to provide the highest possibility of success. What I'm seeing are seeds I throw to the chickens when I sort my batches. Not prime grade A stock. THAT is BS.

This I agree with 420%! At the price these seeds sell for, anything that doesn't "look" right should be culled at SOME point of the distribution chain. If the breeder misses it, the distributor should catch it and return it to the breeder as "unsellable" and NOT try to pass the crap onto the customer and then hide behind some "standard" replacement policy! :thedoubletake:

Hope your feeling better today mate... P/m me recipe for pulled pork if you have a good one..thanks man..

:passitleft: almost forgot...

Mornin Heir n friends. Happy Labor day. Be safe n good vibes out to all.

Phrum the light room.

Morning Heir,

I just caught up and saw your post about the Co-op thing with the neighbors. This is fantastic! Oh, how I wish my neighbor was pro MJ. We would have a perfect set up. He has all kinds of equipment for tilling, digging..clearing, and like me..he cannot be seen from the road. We are back so far that people have to physically drive back here and even then, they won't see too much.

I really envy you, and I hope it all works out for everyone. I love that you will have some help and not be doing everything on your own.

Be careful though, people can turn on you in a heart beat when differences of opinion are voiced, and neighbor wars are the worst! Ya gotta stay on your toes.

Sure cobber, I'll write it up. I don't really have recipes for a lot of stuff, I consider them more like guidelines, lol. But I'll get the basics down to get you some good pulled pork. I'm a basics type of guy, so I don't use a lot of rubs or other stuff, usually. Sometimes I get that craving. I like to taste the meat, not be over powered by seasoning. So typically I'll use veggies while cooking to give a good pork/veggie stock (onions, carrots, celery, garlic) and go lite on the rubs.

Most important thing is the meat though. You want a shoulder with excellent marbling. Berkshire is the best, it's known as the Kobe of pork. Durocs are pretty good. A Duroc/Hampshire cross makes great meat. Talk to your butcher if you have one, or find a small farm that raises hogs.

Anyhow, I'll get it together and send it over.

I'm doing fine today. Was just sniveling yesterday. All three beans germed overnight. x2 purple paralysis and 1 pineapple chunk.

Have to agree...shoulder slow cooked with the vegies, served with a slew of sauces and a selection of good bulkie rolls and portugese sweet rolls. Never goes wrong. Everyone can build to taste...and the meat is excellent.

I just use a pork butt and slow smoke it on the grill... Usually overnight... Add sauces at the end but I will admit I'd gladly try Heirs... That sounds amazing and pulled pork with grilled corn is my favorite food on the planet... :passitleft: Morning Grizz....:circle-of-love:

Any good meat I have ever had, regardless of critter, needs no more than a touch of salt and pepper at most. Fresh vegies bring out the 'meat' flavor. Best purchase I ever made was my 6qt electric pressure cooker. Amazing meat in an hour with minimal loss of vitamins

Alright my friends, want to see one possible out come of Dark Devil Auto .....

She's a little hungry and battling leaf septoria, my plague for the year. But her color is something special, at least for the grower. The pinkish pistils were unexpected. Smells very similar to DDA but with a little more dank. She's making denser nugs than a DDA, and has less sparse branching, more like a thai stick. This could be the one from DD x BD.
