Heavenly Hybrid 1st Grow: Mango Kush Indoor LED ScrOG Grow 2018

Girls look beautiful:) I use a jewlers loupe but it sucks and I need something new as well. Thanks for the link Shed!

We are very glad you came to this community as well, 420 needs more lady growers! @Amy Gardner you following my new friend?? #girlgang

Hello all, just a little update this time. I guess I'm just kind of waiting around for the trichomes to tell me it's time! I still just have my camera to check them, but I should be getting my loop tomorrow. From what I can zoom in and see, it looks like their little heads are showing, but still clear for the most part. I did spy a couple amber looking ones, but it's pretty hard to tell. I welcome any opinions about it! Here's my clearest close ups :yummy:

Looking nice and frosty! It's hard to tell the color of the trichomes in the purple light, so when you get the loupe tomorrow make sure you have a white light in there when looking or taking pics.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the trichomes on the sugar leaves will go amber before those on the buds (calyxes) so those are really the ones you want to keep an eye on.

Everything looks like it's coming together well!

Excellent info! Thanks Shed, I think it was on a leaf that I saw the amber too, so that make perfect sense.

Oh yes I should then! How does the actual voting happen? I read through the rules, but it didn't mention how to vote. I can't wait until I can enter too - it's so cool they do that, with some cool prizes too!
Voting is open in the contests now, and at the top of the contest page you can see the buttons and the link that says "Cast vote." Anyone with more than 50 posts (like you!) can vote for Member of the Month (MOTM), Plant of the Month (POTM), and Nug of the Month (NOTM). Photo of the Month (PhOTM) is voted on by the mods here.

She looks beautiful HH but I would say she's just entered the Harvest window. A little bit of patience now will pay off massively. Trust me, I'm in a similar situation lol. Happy growing :)

Ooooohhh, getting close!! I’m a little over week 5 flowering, the seed bank said 9 weeks to flower. I’ve seen other journals for Mango Kush that harvested at 7 weeks! I know I want to wait, haha, I’ve been patient for this long! Maybe I can have a better idea after I take some pictures with a loop tomorrow. It’s hard to judge when to start flushing though. I’m going to have a longer cure time too, so I’m thinking ready to smoke just before Christmas? We’ll see!

They look very good for week 5. 7 weeks is a possibility but that would mean flushing now. I'd give it a week and see what they look like then :)
Hope you don't mind if I jump in on the flushing concept!

I used to think that flushing was important when I started growing, but then another member here sent me a link that was critical of the practice. After reading it I stopped flushing before the chop.
A critical look at preharvest flushing

From everything I've read, flushing deprives the plant of the nutrients it needs just when you want it to produce the biggest bud. Buds don't uptake the nutes we give them. The nutes are taken up by the rest of the plant that then produces sugars to make buds. So flushing is starving the bud-building engine of fuel. I've checked this with Pennywise and he doesn't flush either.

There are some nutrients the plant can't use or doesn't need during the final stages of ripening so there are tweaks you can make depending on what you're feeding, but I don't think straight water is the best you can do for your plants as they finish.

I'm of the belief that a good dry and cure is the way to get best tasting buds. Just something to consider as you get closer to harvest.

@Mr. Magoo told me about it the other day, said he heard about it from you lol. I am currently in the process of trying it out as we speak. I didn't mention it because I'd like to have tried it first before recommending it to anyone. It sounds sensible though and I have a feeling it will be better. Thanks for that by the way :)

LOL! I've kinda become the pied piper (Johnny Appleseed?) of the no-flush movement. No one has ever complained about the flavor of my buds, but of course no one smokes them until they've been curing for at least a month!

Ok so I just smoked a sample nug of my widow that I chopped on Friday. Already she’s super smooth clean smoke gives a white ash and isn’t harsh! The flavour is slightly there trying to poke through but I’m sure once I jar her up and cure her for a few weeks she will be on point !

I used the “no flush” method and didn’t notice anything in relation to harsh smoke or bad flavours ! I agree now 100% with @InTheShed about the zero flushing required! Give your plants what they want and give yourself the benefit of a great cure to give you the best buds!

Cheers !

It is interesting. There has been a few grows in the past where I've not been able to flush and I've had to harvest earlier for various reasons. mold, unexpected vacation and being rumbled to name a few. The buds always tasted great if not a little weak due to early harvesting. I can't wait to sample some :)

Haha. Yeah Shed. I share that link you gave me when the subject comes up so people can read it and at least take that into consideration when considering flushing.
It's good to share! People should have a chance to evaluate both sides and make a decision based on science. So much of what we read is just growers passing on what someone else said they should do because that's what they were told. Botany is not some unknown or unknowable voodoo :).

If more people read that article and decide not to flush, then not flushing will become the norm when folks here give advice. Now if we could just get more people to believe that climate change is real .
