HashGirl's Summer 2022 Grow Journal

In unrelated news, I've prepared enough of @InTheShed 's skin salve to last me 10 years! :cheesygrinsmiley:

For mine, I used some roots, leaves, branches and my last Dark Devil auto harvest as it's reputed to be high in the terpene, linalool.

I was actually thinking about adding it to the non-decarbed plant material that I've gathered together to make your salve as I read somewhere that linalool has beneficial immunomodulatory effects on wound healing. And, further research including this info from @Amy Gardner suggests Dark Devil has significant linalool.

I also used 3,160 mls of 100% Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, 260 grams of beeswax pellets and the essential oils, Tea Tree Oil, Lavender and Peppermint. I didn't mean for the peppermint to go in but I grabbed the wrong bottle and only noticed when I was looking for the lavender only to see that the tea tree oil I thought I was adding to the mix was actually, in fact, peppermint. Oh well, here are the pics:

I put it on low for 4 days, taking off the lid and stirring every time I walked past.

That's a 2.5L bowl and a 1L bottle of salve. Anyone want some? :laughtwo:

Wow, looks great!

:thanks: and :welcome: to my journal. I see you're relatively new around here. Are you finding everything okay? If you need help finding anything specific, let me know and I'll see if I can find it for you. I have a gazillion bookmarks so it's possible.

Nicely done @HashGirl ! Those BB Auto's are almost like found money!

:thanks: Azi. I know. Right? Especially since I had had great hopes of growing 4 Blueberry autos to tide me over until my 2 Blueberry photoperiod plants were done but only ended up with 1 thriving plant. I'm very happy about this.:yahoo:

I’d like to start a grow journal but every time I try it says to read this and says what specific’s to say and then no links.

Your plants have gained in height this week wow! All looking great.

Nice HG :) Didn't they go for a very long time for autos? Are you saying 136 days in total?

Wow! Way to go HG! Very impressive! Is that your first try ever making salve?

Sorry you can't find where and how to start a journal.

Here's the link for how to start a grow journal and here's a link for how to add the link to your new journal to your signature line and here's where you can post your new journal:

Nice HG :) Didn't they go for a very long time for autos? Are you saying 136 days in total?

Yep, 136 days. But, don't forget, I started them February 1st, forgot they were autos and didn't feed them enough so they weren't growing and then I transplanted them to one pot on March 26 and only fed them water until the beginning of May.

Wow! Way to go HG! Very impressive! Is that your first try ever making salve?

Thank you, Jon. I've made pain cream before (lots of times) with decarbed bud but Shed's Salve was made with non-decarbed plant material, which included roots, branches and leftover trim. And, it was the first time, I made his salve. I think it might need more beeswax though as it's not quite firm enough.

I notice @InTheShed is scarce this weekend but when he returns, I would like to know how he cleans all the wax off from the strainer? And, what about my fabric coffee filter? I got some on my kangaroo jacket and thought I had washed it off pretty good only to see a huge stain after it had been dried already.

Beeswax is notoriously difficult to thoroughly remove and so the usual recommendation is to use dedicated tools for their use including any strainers, graters, pots, double boilers etc.

Thanks, Azi. Well, that's great info but it doesn't help me right now. I guess the strainer will be just for beeswax straining going forward. I should have thoroughly strained the oil before I added the beeswax but I forgot so that's why the strainer is hard to clean now.

Plants are looking great and those WWxBB autos are huge outside!

Congrats on that huge batch of salve, but I don't have a recommendation for getting beeswax out of a kangaroo jacket. Maybe a warm iron and paper towel like folks use for candle wax might work.

For my utensils and colander I just use really hot water and Dawn. Hot water, wipe off the wax with paper towel, repeat, then Dawn to clean the rest.

And if you find it needs more beeswax, melt a cupful in the microwave and (measure and) stir in more wax. Let it cool and see if it's stiff enough. If it is, you have repeatability with the next batch. If not, add some more until it's just the way you like it!

Mine is perfect to leave out in the winter and definitely not in the summer.

Thanks, Shed.

And, just an fyi, we determined that the WWxBBs are photos not autos.

*** UPDATE TIME ***
Good evening.

This week's highlights include:
  • The Magnums were sprayed with Safer's once.
  • The White Widow x Big Buds were sprayed with Neem once.
  • The indoor plants were all fed 1L of Neemed water.
  • WWxBB1 and WWxBB2 have grown another 6 and 10 inches respectively.
Without further ado, here are the pics:

In other news, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. @Melville Hobbes in person yesterday when we met up to distribute the MC that I split up into 3 portions from the 25 pound bag we bought together. The third portion is going to @TwelveCoffee .

It's always nice putting a face to a name but it can also be awkward when you meet in person the first time. I was with family but Mel came over for a short visit, mainly talking with Felonious as I was in the process of giving our 5-year-old niece her birthday presents. I'm happy Felonious was there to pick up on the slack. He's a good man.

AND...

The final tent has been emptied of plants so I started the cleaning of the grow rooms. I'm hoping to put the CB Dutch Treats and the Raspberry Cough into flower later this week.

However, we have a concert in Toronto (Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings) Tuesday night so Wednesday is probably a wash for getting things done.

And, since the White Widows x Big Bud turned out to be photoperiod plants, I guess I'll grow the Moby Dicks inside instead of outside as originally planned.

I had intended on starting a perpetual grow with 4 plants in early veg but I have 4 to go into flower and the Moby Dicks may be going into flower soon, too so it's all messed up. I'm considering just growing out the plants that are currently growing and when I have about a month left of flower, then put 4 new seeds into water. What do you think? @Emilya - would this work for starting a perpetual grow?

I think that is a fine idea and it should work very well for you. It is also very cool that you guys all got to meet up to get some nutes spread around and meet each other!

Thank you, Emilya. I was hoping you would agree. :battingeyelashes:

Everything is looking good but those Moby Dick solo cup plants at 35 days are pretty lanky and lean. Are they autos as listed on the label? They really are consistent across all four plants.

Yes, they're definitely autos and they need to be uppotted but I can't do that until the grow areas have been cleaned. Today, Felonious and I worked on emptying pots, cleaning pots and pans and throwing out all the extras that we have no use for.

Tomorrow, I'm planning on sweeping out the grow areas and spraying the tents with pyrethrin spray. I'll wear a mask while spraying and when each one is done, the fan will be turned on and the tent will be closed.

I won't be able to actually clean them until Friday at the earliest so maybe next weekend's task will be uppotting the Moby Dicks and moving the CB Dutch Treats and Raspberry Cough into flower.

Wow! So cool to meet someone from here in person! Very positive experience. That’s awesome. Hope y’all had fun. Smoke anything? :cheesygrinsmiley: The plants look solid as they seem to always do!

*** Weekly Update ***

Good evening.

This week's highlights are:

  • Unfortunately, the Moby Dick autos appear to have some kind of bugs. I sprayed them with Neem twice this week. They haven't been receiving a Neem drench like the ones in the 5-gallon pots since they're still in Solo cups.
  • The tents have all been sprayed with pyrethrin spray and have been closed up with the fans running. Tent cleaning will take place this Wednesday as I'm out tomorrow.
  • I'm planning on Neeming all the indoor plants before moving them into a tent. I don't want another bug-infested grow. The bigger plants have been receiving 1L of Neemed water once a week but I'm going to do the leaves, too just to be on the safe side.
  • It is my intention to put the indoor photo plants into flower when I put them in the tent. Hopefully, it will be big enough for them.
  • The White Widow x Big Buds are trying hard to flower.
  • The biggest growth spurts this week were CB Dutch Treat 2 at 3", Raspberry Cough, also at 3" and White Widow x Big Bud 1 at 3.5".
