HashGirl Grows Alpine Star CBD, Carnival, Dark Devil & Raspberry Cough

Can you LST after they start flowering?

And, on another note, on average how long do you veg your plants? I'm trying to get a better idea of how long ours should veg. I know that most of their growth happens during veg so a longer veg time is good but Amy thought 3 months was too long.

My plants in the last grow were only vegged for a month.
You can definitely LST while they're flowering. Just have to be a little gentler as the stems become stiffer and more fibrous. I managed to squeeze like an extra half oz dry by continually tying down my autos during flower.

Amy thought 3 months was too long.
not necessarily too long, just longer than I have for inside medium sized plants. Nothing is too long if you want a huge plant!
any other benefits to growing outside?
Sunshine! Can’t beat it! And plants are more adaptable when growing outside - especially in the ground - so don’t sweat the lack of control. There is something liberating about it. Can’t do anything so you have to give it over to nature for the most part.

The lack of an electric bill?

Yeah but it wouldn't be the lack of an electric bill because I would still be growing inside since I'm only allowed to grow 4 plants outside.

Outside, they're planted in pots just like inside.

120,000+lux vs 35-60,000 lux? Bigger plants bigger harvests? Four more plants 3x the size of your inside plants that you're paying the electric bill for?

Please don't do it if it takes this much convincing! :)

I've already made a tentative plan for the summer grow. Outside, I will grow 4 plants and they will be:
  • 2 Big Devil XL Fast Version
  • 2 Jack Herer (or Carnival)
Indoors, I will grow the following:

1st Large Tent
  • 1 Purple Kush
  • 2 Raspberry Cough
  • 1 Cinderella 99
2nd Large Tent
  • 2 Girl Scout Cookies
  • 2 Northern Lights
Small Tent - 1st Run
  • 4 Dark Devil Auto
Small Tent - 2nd Run
  • 1 Amnesia Auto
  • 1 Lemon Auto
  • 2 Blueberry Auto
I figure since autos have a shorter grow cycle, I can probably do 2 runs of them during the summer grow.

The ones I chose for outdoors will finish mid September to mid October, which should be fine weather-wise.

*** WEEKLY UPDATE ***
Hello all.

I fertigated all the plants today. Here is the updated info:
420 Notes - 16-Feb-21.jpg

We also topped the Raspberry Cough, ALP1, ALP2, ALP4 and ALP5. All the heights recorded were pre-topping. I'm planning on LSTing them, too along with the Carnival but I didn't get to it today. Carnival will be topped once it's a little taller.

Here are the photos:

DDA:

My DDA has some yellowing on the lower leaves so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I had also been thinking about LSTing the DDA but I can't figure how to go about it since it's just one apical. I'm wondering if I might have left it too late. :hmmmm:

And, here are the cuttings we took:

I didn't know that it was okay to do it more often.
You can top more than once but it means bigger plants and a longer veg. Also, longer veg means bigger pots which also take up more room. So once is fine :).
Are you asking if I'm going to LST them, i.e. keep the top two nodes level???
Yes, that's what I meant. I try to keep the top two nodes level while the lowers grow up to the canopy. That way the buds on the lowers end up much bigger than they would if they were always lower than the top.
Should I use Cal-Mag
Not yet. Plenty of room to add more MC at this stage.
I'm going to learn how to grow them
I'm not sure anyone can learn how to grow them. We all just plant them and hope they turn out well. They certainly all have a mind of their own.

Okay, here is my first attempt at LSTing. Let me know what you think.

I used cloth plant ties and on ALP5, I joined 3 ties together in order to tie down the highest branches as it was so tall.

Two things...please don't tip a plant over like you did with the DDA! It stresses the root/stem connection. You need to bend plants that you want to LST, not tip them. If it won't bend without you thinking it's going to break, it's generally too stiff to LST like that. Please untie it!

This is how you lay a plant over, and support the root/stem connection:

Please check out my LST thread for the hows and whys of LST!

The second thing is that on the other plants, I just want to make sure you are aware that it's the nodes you will eventually be keeping flat and not the fan leaves. Pulling down the fan leaves doesn't do anything for the plant (unless you are uncovering bud sites below). At this point the top two nodes are too short to tie, so let them grow for a while until they're longer.

I did read your LST thread Correction: I did read the first post in your LST thread before attempting this. I didn't feel like reading all 22 pages so I didn't. Was there something I missed?

I also read Jorges Cervantes' method along with the blog on LSTing on the Royal Queen website and a blog on LSTing on Grow Weed Easy. I did not look up videos on YouTube, which I probably should have as perhaps it would have made the method more clear for me.

I actually thought that I had done a pretty okay job except for maybe the DDA and ALP5, which was so tall. It was a little disappointing to read your comments above but all the LSTing has been undone and I will await further instructions.

Don't be disappointed! Posting pics and having folks chime in is the reason to post pics in the first place (besides displaying our beautiful plants).

Further instructions were in my post above. The DDA may be beyond bending at this stage, and the topped ones don't need any training until the top nodes get long enough to get a tie around. Then you just need to keep them flat (not down).
