Halogen Lighting good for growing cannabis?

Has anyone tried 500W Halogen lighting to grow cannabis with? What growing stage is it best suited for?

Nope... not good. Most of the electricity used for Halogen produces light that is unusable to plants (Far Red and Infrared).

Could it work...Yes,

You would want to use a light that produces more "visible light" to get the most out of your electricty use.

Also Halogens run very very hot which could be a fire hazard as I don't believe they are designed to run 18 hours on, every day.

Look at HPS, metal halide, ceramic metal halide, LED, COB or CFL.
