I have my account's forum settings adjusted so that I automatically subscribe when I post in a thread. I just use my User CP page (which lists subscribed posts in which there are new post activity) to keep track of them. Looks like I've "only" got 84 threads there that I'm currently behind on :icon_roll . I try to check for spambots dropping new carpet-biscuits, see if there are any new member introductory posts that haven't received at least one friendly response, and people posting threads about issues that I might be able to help with (again, I try to pay more attention to those with no prior responses).
I'm sure that I miss plenty of all of them; we appear to have a much higher activity count than we did five+ years ago. In fact... It's often hard to find the time to investigate new (to me) threads solely for ME, lol - I routinely see ones whose thread title interest me, but if they've got many pages (and my settings are for 40 posts/page) already, I sometimes pass on them, knowing how far behind I'd be. I need a... clone. Several... One to sleep
, one to (attempt to) be helpful, one to read for personal pleasure and knowledge... and one for life in general. No, wait, I could do that part. Or maybe I could take the "sleep" duties for a while, lol?
I use the Thanks button... Sometimes it's me "saying" thanks for doing and/or teaching a thing for/to me, other times I use it on a post that might not help me personally, but that I expect to help
someone. I use the Like one to show general appreciation. Sometimes I'll do both, lol - or use them interchangeably. Err... Or forget to use either (sorry). I don't use the REPutation thing all that often any more; after a while, your REP score gets built up to the point where you can REP a newbie who has one post... and the member goes from one green REP box all the way to "This member has a reputation beyond repute." and maxed-out number of green boxes. If I could add
one green box and a reasonable amount of REP points at a time, I'd use the function more often.
Whatever works. This is a community made up of LOTS of different people - and we each do things a little bit differently in life. Speaking of which, for me, there isn't really any benefit to having email notifications, because I usually visit the forum
at least once/day anyway.
And... Posting style/content... Sometimes, that enables you to realize that you've run into someone before on the Internet
.
Years ago, Pepsi / Mountain Dew had little ten(?)-ounce glass bottles in convenience stores; they cost more than the one-liter bottles did :rolleyes3 .
BtW, I received a new LED product, one of our new forum sponsor
GROWant's products. I'll be starting a journal in the next day or two. Hope to see y'all visit.
