GrowingGirls' Mystery Seed Growing Adventure Journal - 2010

Nice job on the environmental fine tuning GG! Those gals are going to love you for it!

Thanks GMH! I was hoping to be able to turn the AC down a couple degrees, but the new positioning hasn't cooled things off all that much...probably because I had to turn up the dehumidifier again today. The humidity has been getting up to the low 60s at night due to rain. My outdoor garden (vegetables) loves the way the weather has been switching between sunny and rainy here, but it certainly makes it harder to control the indoors.

In any case, the new duct jobs are helping get some really excellent airflow around the plants, which don't seem to mind if it creeps up to 82 degrees sometimes.

In other news, I had a little something going on last night that is either light burn or nute burn, and I didn't have time to figure out the exact problem, so I pulled my lights up just an inch or two last night and cut back the nutes to half strength instead of doing a flush. There was no time for a flush today, and only one of them was dry anyway. I've got one that has been sucking up water almost twice as fast as the other two for about the past week.

Looking back on it now, though, it was probably the lights. I had the CFLs only 1.5 inches from the plants, which works on my little ones but is probably too close for plants that also have an HPS over them. And I had just moved the lights down earlier in the day, and the problem came on fast and mostly affected the spots closest to those lights.

Anyway, all is well. :)

Just a couple of post-training group shots I took of the girls a few minutes ago...

And now for the big girls...

I'm not going to post a full canopy shot because it's become quite uneven (by my high standards) and really needs a solid hour or two of attention to trim and tuck, which is time I haven't been able to find. But here are the tops of the three plants, in order from most to least developed. By harvesting these all at the same time, I'll be hoping to get one uppity-high plant, one couchlocker, and one in between.

The "oldest"...this is her top cola, and that fat nug in the background is also one of hers.

My middle child. You can also see a (blurry) view of her older sister's top cola (from previous pic) in back.

And, the baby. There are a lot of leaves in the way (for now) so it's hard to see that she is finally starting to fill out more noticeably.

Clones are looking great GG! Reps!

Thank you. :)

I just looked back at their pics from a week ago and they've grown so much! I think I need to start allowing them a little bit of vertical growth, as I have really been pushing them to the limit in terms of training them down. They're going to the SCROG as soon as I can finish setting that up.

How big is your screen going to be?

Undecided. I know I should be shooting for a minimum of one square foot per plant, and I don't think I should have to go much over that since these are only in one gallon pots. The issue is whether or not I can get a 4'x2' screen to fit where I want it. Last night I thought for sure it wasn't going to work out and that I'd have to do it double-decker style (like I planned on originally, just on the back shelves instead of the current rack), but setting up (not to mention paying for) two sets of lights sounds awfully unfun.

The top shelf (or all, if I manage to set everything up on one) might have HPS added later on, when the HPS is done flowering the big ladies in the other room.

So, here I go changing my mind again, only an hour after I last changed it.

I tried to get one of the screens set up, but it just isn't going to work. I think I'm going back to the original two-tier plan on the rack, unless I come up with something else brilliant. It'll be a bit of a tight fit, but fuck it...it's probably my best bet.

Very frustrated with all the useless work I did, though...and I'm dry right now and lacking funds so I can't just smoke a bowl and feel better. Might have to snatch a bud from one of the ladies tonight. You know, for testing and research. :)

Patience my lady! keeping it simple is the best way to do some of this stuff, are you trying to scrog on the rack or a whole separate area? Some 1x1 boards with chicken wire would work great. If another area you can just make a square and screen it, like Spiderpigs Scrog setup.:bongrip:

Your ladies looking good!!! I will follow you and do the same with mine... I was looking into SCROG? I could get a screen in there... What do you think?

While I don't think SCROG is necessarily a really advanced or difficult technique, I think you should hold off on getting fancier until your next grow. Just concentrate on the basics of growing and blooming your plants for now.

I was looking at your pics...looks like you have paper/card board on top...is this to keep it moist longer?

Thanks

You mean the white things on top of the soil? That's poly (plastic) sheeting, white on one side and black on the other. It's not to keep moisture in (although it might do that a little)...it reflects light back up at the plants and helps the undergrowth get a little action.

I bought it to line the walls of my grow area, but made the "tree skirts" out of the scraps. It's a trick I learned from a guy who helped me out with my first attempt at growing a few years ago. I've actually come to find that most of what he taught me was complete crap, but this actually does seem to help.

Testing and research - I think that is exactly what i am going to tell myself :grinjoint:

GG, I love your LST technique! Looks clean and efficient. I am really going to consider using it on my next grow +reps to you if I can

I have been going back and forth with the ScrOG topic myself. I think for this grow I will just LST and lollipop and see how it comes out. My next grow I might do a ScrOG. Hopefully I will learn where to and when to put the ScrOG based upon this grow. Good Luck in your decision. I know I spent waaaaaaaay too much time trying to make up my mind on this one. :ganjamon:
