Growing Against Alzheimers - A Purely Organic Experience

Hey girl, hope you had a great productive and heart embracing day.....

I spent some time with Dee, my friend's 91 year old early ALZ patient and we had a ball....so did our dogs, who have turned out to be besties....mine is 13; hers is 2....can you imagine...so splendid.....!

I had my new neighbor over for dinner tonite to celebrate his new business opening tomorrow.....he is from NYC and has no family here so I made him dinner, we had wine, I baked a chocolate cake and sent him home with half of it and of course, we smoked some cannabis........typical night at home, right.....? Celebrate the little things, eh???????? :circle-of-love:
Animals can be such great companions when you're down. I absolutely love dogs myself. Probably because I was never able to have one growing up in apartments. They don't judge you and are always looking for attention. I have to get me a place that excepts lovable canines!

I have had terriors for the last 35 years....always a yorkie and a westie pair together.....I just have a westie now....the most amiable, loveable, lowest key animal on the planet....I am so blessed....he is my partner....they just don't live long enough for my fierce love of them....and the grief of losing them....

It's really sad that dogs in general don't live long. You get attached and next thing you know they are getting old and you have no other choice than to put them out of their misery.

My two girls mya and Stella are my first pets ever when they die a piece of me will die

Love my girls.

Goodmorning G2HM  nothing but love today, I hope you have a wonderful Thursday lovely lady :circle-of-love:

Journal coming up today.

I just need to ask you folks that I can't handle talking about dying animals. It makes me sad, instead why don't you post pics of your living animals so I can love them too. I know dying is a part of life, but I loooove animals, and it's too heavy for my heart to read first thing in the morning. I love you guys so much that I thought I would just ask. BIG HUG

So this is a post I did from my previous journal. I thought it would be important enough to share how vital it is to your brain to have fish oil. But I couldn't stomach it, so this is my next best suggestion. I hope it serves you beautiful Brainiacs because fish is the dish for today!

Journal entry coming up later today...:circle-of-love::Love:

"You probably don’t know this but I hate eating fish. Aaand it’s so darn expensive to buy fish oil capsules. So what did I find at my local supermarket, yes, in the flower section??? SALMON and FISH OIL grow nutrients. Instead of spending the money on daily supplements, I am using fish stuff in my grow to increase bio activity and assist in the regeneration of my brain too.

It smells just like fish chum. At first it made me gag, but now I have been smelling it for the past two weeks and I’m not put off by it at all. In fact, it’s making my plants smell like the west coast beaches. Just by making oil from my CBD plants; I will be getting some Omega 3 supplement and that is the kinda innovative thinking I need. I’ll use this for all my grows, better stock up.

-----------------------Brain Info on Fish Oil Supplements----------May bore you alert-----------

“The human brain is largely made of fat — 60% by dry weight.
One particular group of fats, the omega-3 essential fatty acids, is most important for the brain’s structural integrity and performance. And one omega-3 fatty acid, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), may be the single most important nutrient you can take for brain health throughout all stages of life.

DHA doesn’t sound as exciting as the latest brain supplement but it’s a foundational nutrient needed for a healthy, optimally functioning brain. Trying to build a healthy brain without it is like building a house on a foundation of Legos!

DHA: An Essential Building Block of the Brain
Essential fatty acids are those your body needs for health that can’t be synthesized by your body — you have to get them from food or supplements.

Of all the essential fatty acids, the omega-3s are the most abundant in the brain where they are are the preferred building blocks of brain cell membranes and nerve cells.

There are three kinds of omega-3s — EPA, ALA, and DHA — with DHA unarguably being the most important for your brain. DHA accounts for 97% of the omega-3 fatty acids in the brain.

✓Omega-3 Supplements
Besides being a major structural component, DHA also plays a role in brain cell communication.
DHA facilitates neurotransmitter activity and increases the number of neurotransmitter receptors, allowing the brain to optimize the use of its feel-good brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine.

Benefits of DHA in All Stages of Life
Just as you need calcium for strong bones, you need DHA for a strong nervous system.
DHA is needed throughout all stages of life for a healthy brain and mental well-being.

Fish Oil: Liquid Gold for Depression and Mood Disorders

DHA for Seniors and Mental Decline
If you could take only one supplement to stay mentally sharp as you age, it would be DHA.
People low in DHA have smaller brains that age faster than those with normal levels.
DHA can improve memory, learning, and age-related mental decline in healthy older adults.

✓Omega-3 Supplements
Having adequate levels of DHA can protect you from age-related mental decline and significantly reduce your risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Seniors with higher levels of DHA are 47% less likely to develop dementia and 39% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s as people with low levels.

DHA for Mental Health
Having low levels of DHA means having a smaller brain and this shrinkage affects brain function.
DHA deficiency impairs functions like memory, problem solving, the ability to multitask, and thinking capabilities.

Low DHA levels have been linked to depression, ADHD, anger, and hostility.
Serious psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder, suicidal behavior, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia have been linked to DHA deficiency.

Military veterans with low levels of DHA are 62% more likely to commit suicide.
These enhancers work with your brain's own neurotransmitters to really improve your mental energy, clarity, focus and mood. You can see that DHA is one of the most important nutrients for your brain.”

Wow! Thank you for resharing that. I missed it the first time and I didn't know a lot of that.

Hi G2HM

I've been meaning to pop in here for ages, just made it!

Curious you post that about fish oil right when I arrive here, as I've needed to find out about Essential Fatty Acids (the 'omegas' among others) lately and just have to throw in my 2cents here. There are cognitive issues involved in the condition I manage too. Different to what you experience, but often times treatments are similar.

Hemp seed oil is considered by many (me included now) to be a far superior source of all the things you talk about. Hemp seed oil actually contains the exact ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 that we humans require (about 4:1).

No surprise really to discover another way that a Cannabis product is a perfect fit for the human body ..

As I understand it DHA is a product of what the body does with omega 3 and balance is most important. There is also research to show that much fish oil people buy is toxin contaminated by all the pollutants in the ocean moving up the food chain. Because fish oil is largely taken from higher predators, there is a high accumulation of toxins (from all the other fish they have eaten!). So no wonder you don't like taking it! Some of these toxins can include mercury and arsenic, plus pesticide byproducts, all of which can actually impair neurological development.

You might look into the benefits of hemp seed oil for the effects you're after. I usually put a dessert spoon of it in my juice nearly every day - and all this has reminded me I've slacked off on that lately and ought to reintroduce.

So in short, it's possible (and many claim it is so) that hemp seed oil can do everything fish oil does and do it better, without toxic risk. I'll try to list some sources for this info if anyone needs me to. I've just shared here what's stayed in my mind from all the stuff I've read.

I'm not sure the same risk goes for putting it on your plants, I know there are lots of fish products used by many folks for their plants, including fish bone meal. That's something I haven't looked into.

I did listen to a growing podcast recently that warned about various produce industry waste products being repurposed as plant fertiliser and allowed the 'organic' label because it's animal product, when it may be anything but organic (for example, blood n bone from hormone treated livestock - I wouldn't want those hormones in my grow!).

Anyway - I'll pop back and catch up on your journal history now.

Please don't think I'm criticising anyone's practices, we all do what works for us - I just saw a conversation where I had something I thought relevant and possibly important to add. .

.

Edit: I'll add this reading reference. There's a lot out there but this gives a relatively balanced overview.
HempLogic: Can hemp oil replace fish oil in the human diet?

Edit 2: after reading the first few pages in your journal, I came back to check my post for clarity, and to make the paragraphs nice and short ..

Another excellent coincidence as I have an almost full bottle of Hemp Seed Oil in the fridge that I bought for my wife's hot flashes (didn't help, that's why it's almost full!). I can add that to my day. ♫ I've got the hemp in the morning CBD at night ♫ :)
