Yeah, you link a debit/credit or bank acct, buy coin or whatever currency you're interested in (there's others, like ether) and keep it in a digital wallet. I've opened two different wallets on different sites. You have a long address that's like your bank account number, for each wallet. Send and receive money all over the world, I buy coin in USD and send to you. You receive coin and withdraw in squid, or what ever you trade in, lol. It's deposited to your bank. Very minimal fees compared to bank fees and hassle.
It's a totally separate market, and value fluctuates. In 24hs the value of 1 BTC has seen a low of $536usd and a high of $575 (currently at the high). I'm sure different regional currencies fluctuate similarly.
So If I were going to buy, I'd watch the trends a bit, like any market. Buy coin low, spend it high. More bang for your buck.
