GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

re: GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

Hey everyone!

I have been super lax with the pictures and the updates, but things are starting to happen now. I now have to get a system set up in the tent for when this Sweet Tooth gets transplanted into a larger container...

I thought about doing a DWC for this plant, but i'm thinking about doing a Capn Style top feed for it instead, and Topping and bending to get a big plant. I'm not sure of the sex, since this is a regular seed, but i will take a clone in probably about 3 weeks, and put it into the flowering tent to determine the sex of the plant. I really want to order a few more of these Sweet Tooth's in case this turns out to be male, but the GF wants the Dr. Who seeds from TGA Subcool, so gotta get those first!!

I almost forgot to mention, i will have a full picture update tomorrow!!!!

Hey everyone!!

I know i said i was going to have an update this morning......

but when i went to go upload my pics and such i took over the last few days, i realised that Lady GT took the digi camera with her this morning!!!

So i just have a video i took on my Iphone last night that i will post later this afternoon!

re: GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

Good morning.. quick update for everyone!!

The Sweet Tooth is now about 40 days from seed, and i'm counting it as about 3ish weeks now in veg. So we are hoping to run it 5 more weeks in veg before putting it into flower, if its a female.

Tomorrow i am going to take 2 clones from this plant and clone them in 2 different ways. one will be a bubble cloner, the other will be in rockwool and i'm going to see which one roots and takes off faster.. Then i plan to sex the plant, but putting the clones into flower so i can determing whether i have a female or not!!

so heres some pics before bed!

Gotta get some sleep for my Birthday!!!

re: GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

Looking good. Happy Birthday there Greenthumb. Is that two PH meters taped together, I assume you do that to make sure your Ph is right on.

re: GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

That is actually my PH and PPM pens taped together. Two readings in one, but its a manual switch i have to hold to close the electrical circuit to make the pens work.

I calibrate them once every week or two.

I am going to get digital pens like i had come with my grow box, but somehow broke it, because they also told the temperature of the water, and thats good if your reservoir doesn't have a thermometer in it, which i always do now. I also think these more expensive pens are more accurate as well.

And thank you very much for the birthday wishes! having a very relaxing day today!

All right!!! Looking good Greenthumb, and, :happybday:

re: GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

Happy birthday,Grenthumb. You are specialise in photographs and they are looked promising.

Thank you Jason! This wouldn't be happening without you and Twilight!

All right!!! Looking good Greenthumb, and, :happybday:

Thanks 60!

I just transplanted the Sweet Tooth tonight as well as took off 2 lower branches for clones. Once these clones root, i am going to get them into the flower tent so that i can determine the sex of the plant. If its male, i need to order more Sweet Tooth Seeds!

re: GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

:goodjob:
Looking nice Mr Thumb

Thank you Regor! Glad to have you along!

The Sweet Tooth got transplanted into a 2 gal round pot and put onto a home made "drain to waste" tote. Later this week, i will rig up a drip system for it, so i dont have to tend to it everyday!

The 2 clones i took from the plant yesterday are not wilting at all today! Its lights out on them again, so we will take a peek on them in the morning and let some fresh air into the humidity dome.

For anyone who is not following my other Journal, there is a link in my signature.

In my other journal, i posted my nutrient feeding recipe which i will now copy and paste into here.

i am about to mix up a 5gal bucket of nutrient mix in the "Early Veg" phase, but i am going to add a little bit more FloraGrow, for the extra N.

Here is the recipe:

I am using the General Hydroponics 3-part Flora Series. IN addition to my base i mention below, i also am using General Hydroponics Rapid Start and General Hydroponics Floralicious Plus. I will be purchasing some General Hydroponics Liquid KoolBloom and KoolBloom Dry in the coming week or two and adjust my recipe accordingly.

I have this broken down into 6 stages of growth. Early veg, Late Veg, Transition, Mid-Bloom, Late Bloom and Ripening. I have a base of additives that go into the nutrient mix in the same amounts every time, with the exception of Late Bloom and Ripening. In these stages, i drop a couple ingredients that i will go over.

Base:

4ml/gal Botanicare Cal/Mag +
10ml/gal Botanicare Aquashield
1ml/gal General Hydroponics ArmorSi

** Add ArmorSi FIRST to fresh water and mix well **
** Add FloraBlend AFTER all nutrients and mix well ** (see recipe below for amount of FloraBlend)

I will be using abbreviations for each ingredient in the recipe.
G = FloraGrow
M = FloraMicro
B = FloraBloom
RS = Rapid Start
FL+ = Floralicious Plus
FLB = FloraBlend ** Remember, this is added VERY LAST **

** All the following measurements are PER GALLON. **
** Always add FloraMicro before FloraGrow or FloraBloom and mix well **

Early Veg:

G ---- 4ml
M ---- 3ml
B ---- 1ml
RS ---- 2.5ml
FL+ ---- 1ml
FLB ---- 5ml

After mixing PPM should be approximately 400-450 depending on PPM of your water (my tap water is below 15ppm). My PPM was 430 after mixing this.
** Dilute to 200ppm for young seedlings and freshly rooted clones. Keep at normal PPm for fully rooted clones **

Late Veg:

G ---- 5ml
M ---- 4ml
B ---- 2ml
RS ---- 2.5ml
FL+ ---- 1ml
FLB ----5ml

PPm should be in the range of 475-550

Transition: 1 Week before, and 2 weeks into Flower

G ---- 4ml
M ---- 4ml
B ---- 4ml
RS ---- 2.5ml
FL+ ---- 1ml
FLB ---- 5ml

PPM should be 550-700. My PPM came out at 650.

Mid-Bloom:

G ---- 1ml
M ---- 4ml
B ---- 6ml
RS ---- 0
FL+ ---- 1ml
FLB ---- 5ml

PPM should be 650-800

Late Bloom:

G ---- 0
M ---- 4ml
B ---- 8ml
RS ---- 0
FL+ ---- 1ml
FLB ---- 0

PPM should be 700-1000

Ripening:

G ---- 0
M ---- 2.5
B ---- 9ml
RS ---- 0
FL+ ----1ml
FLB ---- 0

PPM should be 500-800

Flush:

Clean, PH balanced water for 7-14 days, depending on Ripeness of plant.

**NOTE**
The PPMs in Mid-Bloom and Late Bloom, i left a little higher, since i plan to use Gen Hydro's Liquid KoolBloom and KoolBloom Dry during those stages of growth. I just haven't gone to the hydro store to pick them up!

And there you have it Folks, My nutrient feeding schedule.

Each week i also brew my modified version of Heisenberg Tea. In replacement of the Ancient Forest, since it isn't available in Canada, i use Floralicious Plus for my humic acid supplement to the tea. Also, instead of Plant Success' Great White, i use Gen Hydro's Subculture-M.

My Tea Recipe:

In 4gal of water I add:
20ml Gen Hydro FloraBlend
60ml Botanicare Aquashield
20ml Botanicare Pure Blend Tea
10ml Gen Hydro Rapid Start
10ml Gen Hydro Floralicious +
2.5 teaspoon Gen Hydro Subculture-M
2 tablespoon Blackstrap molasses

I put an airstone in the bucket and let aerate for a minimum of 30 hours before pouring it over the base of the stalk of each plant. After 72 hours, the microbes start to die off and become useless.

I will post some pictures tomorrow of the Sweet Tooth and the clones!

EDIT:

I just realized that i did not mention the order in which i mix my nutrients, as i have a feeling the order in which it is mixed determines the effectiveness of my mix. For example, i believe that the synthetic nutrients somewhat harm any beneficial minerals and bacteria and such that are introduced, if you add the synthetic fertilizers after. Therefore, i add the Floralicious + and the FloraBlend AFTER i have added my FloraGrow, FloraMicro and FloraBloom.

So, in order, I mix nutrients like this:

1. Add ArmorSi
2. Add Cal/Mag +
3. Add Aquashield
4. Add FloraMicro
5. Add FloraGrow
6. Add FloraBloom
7. Add Rapid Start
8. Add Floralicious +
9. Add FloraBlend

Stir well after adding each ingredient. I usually dont have to adjust PH at all once it is mixed, as the FloraBlend lowers the PH that is usually too high before its added.

Wow! Now thats what I call a feeding schedule! Makes my 3 part nutes look like a fkn joke! I've always had good results with the ones I use but I wonder now if there isn't room for improvement. Haha maybe I'm just too patient that I don't care if they grow faster!

Never having to fk with PH must be nice too. You guys and your soft water on the coast.

When do we get to see more of this tasty beauty? :)

I've always had good results using a simple 3-part fertilizer feeding program. My last grow i ran the Future Harvests 3-part Hollands Secret and didn't see a single deficiency, as long as i followed the bottle.

However, i found that i had to fuck around adjusting PH after using a fertilizer without PH buffers in them. When i switched over to the General Hydroponics 3-Part Flora series, i stopped messing around with the PH as much as some of their additives raise or lower PH as needed, as well as add beneficial stuff to the mix. Plus their formulas have buffers in them to prevent huge PH swings. Same with TechnaFlora, which is actually a local based company.

The feeding schedule i have is easy to follow and very easy to manipulate and change to your specific needs or liking.

Say in late veg you think your plant needs a bit more N but you dont wanna throw your PPMs off, cut back a slight bit on the Bloom and add more Grow, increasing the levels of N in your mix. Same for Flowering. If you feel you need more Phosphorous, cut back a but on the Grow and add more Bloom.

Never Cut back on the Micro, as this contains all your micronutrients that are essential for strong vigorous plant growth.

And as for pictures... well why dont i go take some right now? I can show off the ghetto "drain to waste" tub haha

NWG beat me to it, but WELCOME!!! Not only to my journal, but to :420: This is a great community to learn and share knowledge.

you happened to have shown up just at the right time as things are really starting to kick off! The Sweet Tooth is about to get into the rapid growth stage once it recovers from the "Tipping" i gave it the other day. I can already see it starting to bush out. I probably should have tipped it 2 nodes ago, but i actually planned to let this plant grow the way its supposed to be, but its looking a little sativa-ish with thinner looking fan leaves, so i have an feeling its going to start stretching and exploding in the next 3-5 weeks

Welcome to :420:

I have a bazillion bottles, i just only use a few of them for the nutrient mix. the rest are used for My Modified Heisenberg tea or old Nute bottles from my last grow.

I use my GH 3 part, Cal/Mag+, GH Armor Si, GH Floralicious + and GH FloraBlend in my Nute mix. 4 extra bottles, but i do plan to pick up some GH Liquid KoolBloom and KoolBloom dry to fill out my GH line up.

re: GreenThumb J's Twilight 165W LED Grow Journal & Review - BC SweetTooth - DWC

I used to LOVE koolbloom. Great additive. Havent been much of a tea guy lately, i use some organic teas sometimes to bring out more of sn earthy flavor. Most of my patients can't tell the difference (when it comes to taste, not potency. ) between my outdoor organic and my killer hydro indoor. Ive got 15 gallons of my three part, a gallon of each part of Z7, a gallon of Terpinator and a gallon of flora extract and thats it! My recipe... Shhhhhh! Hahah
