sounds like a good night time med,,i would need y of them for my flower tent lol but my lights do pretty good, hope the led's price drop soon so i can at least test. how much did yours cost?

It's not that sleepy though, it's quite uppity - it can take me a bit to drop off if I've smoked it too close to going to bed.
I'm with you on the price of the LEDs - mine was £350 so not cheap. I ha to bite the bullet though really because I wasn't get the result I wanted from the cfl and whilst an hps would have been much cheaper I can't deal with the heat easily in my space and would have res temp issues, so the led seemed the only viable option where I could get the light intensity and distribution without having lots of heat problems. Fingers crossed it will deliver the results I'm after and be worth the cash. My first impressions after a week and a bit is that it will deliver on expectations judging by the difference I've already noticed. I topped the res up today with plain water and the EC was down to 1.3 from 1.5 so she's hoovering up nutes compared to when she was under cfl

Agreed. I am looking forward to your grow with the LED. I would trip out all day in my grow room with the cool colors. My HPS gives a very depressive glow!

Ha ha, I know what you mean - I'm looking forward to getting some buds to take photos of in the purple light, I always think other people's bud porn taken under led looks amazing. That is the shame with hps - it's trying to take a photo directly under a street light, everything just comes out yellow.

I'm with you on that - there are some great led grows on here. It's one of the reasons I wasn't too worried about investing the money. There still seems to be a lot of debate about LEDs and whether they're any good or not, but the results I've seen in some of the journals on here put my mind at ease and made me happier parting with the money.
Whilst I can't say how it compares to an hps (it's well over ten years since I had a 400w hps so I've got no real comparison), I can categorically say that for not many more watts (200 vs 125w) it absolutely kicks the arse of the cfl, and with less heat.

Yeah, the conditions were absolutely identical, and it was a clone of this plant, so same strain, genes etc. The cfl gave me decent results but there are a few really noticeable differences that aren't 75w worth, if that makes sense. Her growth is faster and fuller, the branches and stems are way thicker and stronger, and she's taking up so many more nutrients. She's drinking about the same of water, possibly a little bit more, but the EC is dropping about 0.1 every couple of days, whereas the EC slowly rose under cfl

I stripped the fans off the other plant at similar times so no major differences there. I'm 100% sure it's just the led is much, much more efficient than the cfl and the plant is just photosynthesising more. Even though on paper the led is only 75w more power than the cfl I had, each individual led gives a different wavelength of light (you can see the different colours in the photos) but only the wavelengths a plant can use so there's very little wasted light, and the light that is available can all be used by the plant, rather than just some of it. I'm about to do another update which should hopefully show the differences a bit more clearly.

A little bit of an update. What can I say.... the difference this light makes is ridiculous. She continues to hammer the nutes and after increasing to 1.5 she's still sucking them up! I'm definitely flipping this weekend. Tomorrow when the lights go out they're staying off until Saturday evening and then she'll be on 12/12. On Saturday I'm also going to increase the EC again from 1.5 to 1.7 for transition, and add Canna Boost. As soon as flowers appear I'll start Canna Flores.
This was her on the 1st of April having defoliated her quite heavily:
And a shot looking down:
This is her today and you can see how much she's grown and re-leafed in just 3 days:
Hopefully the photos below will give a bit of an indication as to difference in growth between the cfl and led. Here's the previous grow (clone of this current plant, so same genetics) on the 28th December shortly after I first installed the screen:
The last grow 5 days later (03/01/13):
And on 13/01/13 when I flipped:
Here's the current grow when I turned the led on for the first time (25/03):
4 days later when I installed the screen (29/03):
And 6 days under the screen:
So under cfl, 16 days from this:
To this:
Under LED, 6 days from this:
To this:
Under cfl the transition to flowering from 12/12 was 11 days. We'll see how this one does and whether it's shorter. I hope so - if she stretches like she grows under this light I'm going to be pretty tight on space!
