Graytail's 3rd: 4x4, HiBrix, Latest LED Tech, Lots Of Light!

Cant wait to flip mine.
Have 3 Carnival from seed grown a bit different at the beginning, 1 was quite strechy.
1 had strange big leafs when young.
After 1 topping and 6 weeks they look quite the same now and grown in an even bush without any training.

I screwed this up. It's 4 ml per pot, not gallon!

4 ml per 6 gallon pot.

:tokin:

I figured that was a typo. I just thought you meant .4 ml per gallon of soil. Thanks for that. I am still dunking Dr. G. and others. I been using about 14 ml growth and 5 tea in about 3 gallons of water. I dunked 8 plants in 1 gallons with that mix last night. So far no burnt tips or curling, that is the 3rd time doing that. They respond much better to dunking I find. I was just curious about when they get into their final home what you been doing with Dr. G. I typically go 1ml per gallon of soil. I will start Dr. G at about .6-.7 ml per gallon of soil.

Golden Tiger. Sounds about right. One you should consider Graytail. Sounds "meant-to-be." :battingeyelashes:

GT..Golden Tiger has your initials...:) it was you that likes lime, yes? My cured GT has amazing lime flavor :)
just thought you'd like to know..

...and it works great ;)

Lime, you say! Yes indeed - every lime-flavored strain I've had was great! :thumb:

... I think I might even have one of those in my seed collection ... :hmmmm: ... I already have a couple long strains going, but I have an opening for another seed in early December - maybe then. I've been wanting to run it for awhile now, just never was the right time. Purple Haze won the spot this time. :cheesygrinsmiley:

My DrG didn't stretch much. I flipped it at 72 days old and 15 inches tall, and three weeks later it was still only 29 inches. From there it added another 1.5 inches over another couple weeks and that's it - she finished at 30.5 inches, 34 days after the flip. The other grows I've scanned didn't seem to have particularly tall plants, either, but certainly not as tame as this one. :laughtwo: I've been drenching at about 4ml per gallon of soil, which is on the low side, and they're bigger and the room has been warmer, so they've been getting drenched every 8 days, as opposed to every 10 days last cycle. I also add tap water to my R/O and haven't seen any more signs of magdef. My water is over 400 ppm hardness, mostly calcium, so I mix it at about 4-1, shooting for 80 ppm. :slide:

You're so right about the breeder's estimates. :laughtwo: In fairness, there's usually a range of phenos, and we may not get a typical one. I always go to s'finder and look at any posted results from growers - they don't have an agenda. :cheesygrinsmiley:

:thanks: :party::partyboy::blunt:

I'm pretty damned excited myself, folks! It's been awhile since I had a garden that looked as good as this one. :yahoo:

I want to make a point about a couple terms that we find being loosely thrown around - pistil set, bud set, etc. It's one of those stages that are part of a grower's instinct and style - the art of the grow. This update, I posted the times I've Cat drenched, to help others see what the more experienced HB growers see. And I always post the "days since pistils" in my updates. Basically, I'm calling the pistil-set and bud-set stages as I defined them. I tend to be late. Most growers see that first cluster of pistils and call it pistil set. I wait until that day the tops go all butchy-haired, usually about 10-12 days after flip. In my experience, it's not really important - most plants are consistent if they're mature going into bloom. I also tend to call bud-set later, for the purposes of Cat drench.

In both cases, I'm thinking in terms of the transition stage. Pistils are "set" when the stretch is obviously faltering and the plant has clearly shifted to flower growth. About when the buds set their early frilly-pistiled tops, the stretch will also slow abruptly. For bud set, it's similar. Buds will reach a stage where they look like they're taking a pause - the plant looks like it's finished building them and is now going to fill them out.

We time our Cationic Drench somewhere in that bud-set period. It boosts fruit production, so it'll shift the plant into seed growth, but ... no seeds ... :cheesygrinsmiley: ... so it just makes bigger fatter calyxes. It uses nutrients that have been stored in the soil, unavailable until we switch the soil charge, so the timing of that burst has different effects depending on the growth stage of the buds. The Cationic nutrients in the soil are limited. If we Cat early, those limited nutes cause early fruiting and run out, generally producing smaller harder buds with an earlier finish. If we Cat late, those limited nutrients feed larger buds and often aren't enough to fully fill them out, producing larger but airier buds.

Remember, the Cat drench itself has a similar nutrient content as Transplant, but its purpose is to release minerals from the soil. More Cat can't produce more minerals. You only get what's bound to your soil at the time you drench - otherwise you're just denching with Transplant. So Cat drench is more about timing than the other drenches. We can do Energy or Transplant whenever and as often as we like, but Cat is meant to release stored soil minerals. Heheh, it occurs to me that it's kinda like coke for plants - their own form of seratonin, eh? - flush it into the bloodstream all at once, and then you have to wait until it's refilled. :laughtwo:

I seem to be rambling ... maybe I shouldn't have had that last pipe of Carn x UH. I'm going to start calling it Rio. :cheesygrinsmiley: Carn x UH is too cumbersome. Brazilian Carnival? Rio? :slide:

:tokin:

Rio for sure! Love it GT. Preach on!!

when you grow with the Kit you grow with all of us :)

GT, you might have a GT in your collection...my don't and didn't run as long as the Purple Haze does/did. :thumb:

This is so true it made me chortle to read it. The HB crew makes all the other groups look like slackers. LOL! It's one big group grow on steroids. :laughtwo:

The numbers keep increasing. That's making it hard to keep up. This is a good thing, despite the frustration of not being able to read faster or interact enough to satisfy the drive. Aren't we having fun? Is it possible to do anything else when Ziggy's around ? Did you bring any of those suckers you made for us Zig? Oh, there weren't for us? Shucks, almost......:battingeyelashes:

Good morning Ziggy. How's my favorite mad-cultivator this fine day? I'm in the middle of harvesting a couple tiny ones to get them out of the way and open up more space under the lights. Let me get back to it. I find these small pots so easy to harvest, don't you? I think when I get home from my trip to Phoenix I'm going to set up a space just for this part of the grow. I think I have the perfect spot in mind. This "Taster's Garden" concept fits me well and I don't want to sacrifice it. Next year I'll get my own stamp on it down.

Thank you again for inspiring me. :hugs:

Have a great day now.

GT, thought of you, and me, when reading this.. :)

"Plants produced from Pondo Mystic cannabis seeds are tall and have heavy buds that seem to glow with a mysterious light green colour during flowering. Flowering time is around 14 weeks and can be grown indoors as well as outdoors. Pondo Mystic smells like fresh zingy citrus, more like sour lime than lemon and has a sharp, spicy zing on the flavour too combined with an earthy undertone. It emits a very focused and clear high."

thats how very close to how my Golden Tiger(+) smells and tastes....just say'n ;)

That settles it - gotta grow me a Golden Tiger! :thumb:

That's a very good description of my Brazilians.

Another week has gone by (it seemed like less ... :hmmmm:) and it's time for an update!

My minions are apparently thriving - boom times in microbe-ville - yay! - and Despicable me is celebrating right along with them. :partyboy: It's been a long time since I had a plant like this Carnival, and I don't think the entire bloom room has ever looked this good. This light setup is just what the room needed - powerful and well dispersed across the canopy. I'm getting penetration down well past a foot into the canopy and the corner plants don't suffer at all. At this plant height, I have them about 15 inches from the 185 watt corner panels and 20 inches from the Advanced LED XML350 at 325 watts. As near as I can estimate, that's 1000+ umols across the sky.

My soil is also thrumming with health, easily obliterating the weekly dose of trimmings I give it, dewing up the underside of the lid - all those good signs we look for. This is effectively a second run soil mix - a blend of fresh, middle and older soils, mixed and left to cook. I have two 27 gallon bins and I'm alternating recycling between them. I take soil out of the oldest one while dumping the old rootballs and trimmings into the other one. They each hold about four pots worth. I also have a bin of older soil and I'll dump a couple gallons of that into the other bins from time to time. Right now I have about 30 gallons of soil cooking and 90 gallons in use.

Temperatures have been very stable - typical of this time of year - at 80 high/68 low - and humidity has stayed above 50 in the bloom room. The veg room is starting to fall and I'll have to decide whether to move into a tent or fix up the understair veg space I'm using. It works great when it's working, but I'm starting to see signs of environmental problems I think. Freddy's Best is running extremely slowly and the CarnivalA clone isn't doing so great. The plants just look a little stressed in general. My whiteflies also are gearing up for another population explosion, driven by my dropping humidity - gotta get me some more SNS 209.

I haven't been doing anything unusual with the drenches and foliars. I spray the bloom room with Brix every 10 days or so and all of them get DeStress weekly. The past few weeks the bloom room has been looking so good that I've Brixed weekly. I alternate Transplant/Tea and Energy/Tea with TransWater in between until it's time for Cat drench. I've been sure to get an Energy/Tea drench right before the Cat without water in between and it seems like that might have helped to load the cation sites. They still get one TransWater after the Cat before returning to straight Energy Water Energy until chop. I've been doing the Recharge and EWC within 2 weeks of the flip.

:hmmmm: I can't think anything else that might explain what I'm apparently doing right. :laughtwo:

I'm going to start splitting my updates into two posts - bloom and veg - 'cause I'm having trouble squeezing all my pics into one post. :laughtwo: Go figure. So ... nuff jawboning ... here come too many pretty pictures!

I don't think BH x UH is going to take the 12 weeks that I thought it would. It's looking a lot like a 10 week strain, putting the chop at next Tuesday. The pics don't show it, but the inner and lower buds have all finished, gone all brown-pistiled without much sign of new ones, and the upper buds are happily foxtailing. I considered letting it go a couple more weeks, but I stuffed a 9th plant into there today so I could really use the space, and I'm currently much more excited about the upcoming Carnival and DrG and Channel+ than I am about another BH cross. It's bound to be good weed with those genetics but I frankly have quite of lot of that particular high for the foreseeable future. :laughtwo: So I'll take her while she's fresh and innocent, incorrigible roue that I am. :blunt:

Tikal ... well, Tikal can apparently run forever, so it's a matter of finding the sweet spot, the point of diminishing returns. I'm likely to take this one early, too, partly because I have another one right behind her and the high is thick enough to benefit from an early chop. Plus I need the space. This one is looking better than the first one - nice solid VERY aromatic buds all down the stems.

I have one of those plants that just takes off on its own here, folks. This one didn't get treated any differently than the others, but she's in the z-z-zone! It's been 12 days since the second Cat and she just got an Energy feed yesterday. Calyxes are puffing up and she continues to stack the trichs. My first pheno always finished between 9 and 10 weeks, and I have this one scheduled for 10 which is 2 weeks away. I can't really tell how ready she is at this point.

Y Griega is looking mighty fine, too. I have to get into the inner growth and trim some of that off though - she's a thick growing one.

Purple Haze looks like it's going to be manageable. It put on another 7 inches since the flip 13 days ago, but that's nothing like the 5-6 inches a week that some of other strains ran. I've been doing a little super cropping ala Duggan's method. The stems on this strain pinch really nicely, so I've done that to the two mains to slow 'em down. No sign of pistils yet.

That's it for the flowering girls. I have pics of the first Carn x UH clone in the next post of the veg group, but she went into bloom today - the 9th plant.

..............

Hi exciting is it for you that you have to harvest early because you have better plants coming in behind? Way to go Graytail! :high-five: They just look more fabulous every week.

Now for the vegging girls! :slide:

First, here's Rio1 (Carnival x Utopia Haze). I've been hoping I could keep her in veg for another week, but she's 16 inches tall and I'm trying to grow shorter plants. That means I have to move them out of veg sooner, right? :hmmm: So I stuffed her in the bloom room. It's now full. :laughtwo:

Rio2 is the first plant I put into the smartie/crate setup. She's the same age as Rio1 but I kept her in the 1.5 2 weeks longer so she's much smaller. Here are pics of what the rig looks like. I was able to get another inch of soil above the top of the crate, so it's over 7 gallons.
