GratefulBud's Summer 2023 Outside Grow

Hey GB! What zone are you in? I really wanted to do an outdoor grow this year in the PNW, zone 8b, but decided to hold off and focus on indoor. I'll still do veggies tho of course outdoors!

I'm super late to the party but something Shed said I really want to elaborate on:

I've learned as well that a 24 hour soak is the maximum, and that's so the embryo in the seed doesn't drown and die. The reason to soak is to soften the outer shell and allow the embryo inside less resistance in unfurling and growing. It looks like you remembered that and addressed it a few posts ago so I'm only typing this out for the record that I agree with all of the above :)

Definitely following along on your outdoor grow!
Welcome AC!
Yep I had a brain fart on soaking seeds.
The one that took the longest - Mimosa - is still lagging behind the others. As soon as the weather warms up I’ll move all outdoors.
Odd to be cold and rainy for Cinco de Mayo.

Six seedlings are currently in the garage under a Mars TS1000 LED grow light.
Seedlings sprouted above soil around 4/19.
Royal Queen Seeds
Mimosa
White Widow
Watermelon
Critical
Also have one SFV OG and one SFV Gorilla OG.

The little seedlings are still . . . little.

C'mon already I wanna see flowers. Fine. I'll wait I guess.

Mimosa is still lagging behind the others. But I think she will be OK.

I've been trying to figure out best height / brightness. I may have had light too bright at 50% so I reduced to 25%.
Several plants have been droopy and I'm seeing spots / curling.

I watered all from the bottom today. I fill a clear cup half full with filtered water, then dunk the seedling clear cup into that - watching moisture level rise up to about 3/4 inch from soil surface. Then lift up and let excess water drain out. Thinking this action may help draw oxygen down into the soil from the top. Also trying to keep top of soil dry to discourage gnats. One plant sure has a long tap root coiled around outside bottom of cup.

As always tips / comments are appreciated.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Shed!

They look hungry as well as a bit light stressed. What are you feeding them these days?
Actually . . . . just water. Last time I put them in new FFOF and they seemed good until I uppotted, but this time I used old soil mixed with FFOF. Probably not enough new stuff. I may add some FF Big Bloom. Lite dose to see how they like it.

I know the FF in the FFOF is Fox Farm but what is the OF
Ocean Forest.
That soil can be a little hot for seedlings which is why I mixed it with used soil from last year. Not enough nutrients so I'll start adding.

Looks like a great start!

🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Tra!
I really need to be one with my plants, and feel the plants so I can sense what they need. Or I could just follow common sense and feed them once in a while. LOL! They should be fine.

Looking excellent!
Thanks Shed!
Even the Mimosa is looking good. A few weeks ago she was laying on her side with a big helmet head. I thought for sure she was a goner. I had to use a tiny screwdriver to pick the helmet off, then prop her up with soil. Really did not think she would make it.
