Grateful Bud's Backyard Outdoor Grow - SFV OG

They're looking great now and the JH clones are doing a standard reveg. You'll get pistils again sometime in late July/early August I'm guessing.

I decarb my CBD the same as my THC and I get a complete per the lab results. I do oven decarb at 240°F for 70 minutes, 90 if I close them up in a foil pouch.
Good to know!
I use the Instant Pot (perfect name) on high - 240˚F - for 50 mins to decarb, then 50 mins to infuse with coconut oil to make gummies. Been working really good I think!

I was out tendin' to my crops this morning and IMHO they are looking pretty good, considering. What do you think?

I've been feeding NNW/NNW for a few weeks now and they look well nourished - better than last year's crop. Yesterday I doused with hose water; no PH, no CalMag just hose water. Most other days they get CalMag only, or CalMag plus nutes. Last year I adjusted water PH every time and it was a pain in the ass.

Group shot wearing their dresses.

Sunny looking fine - I trimmed some of the lower larf. Her bud development is more advanced than the others.

Lori is looking very dark green. Some of her leaves are curling - been doing that a while. Not sure why - she is the only one doing this. Seeing new pistils on the OG / SFV girls.

Janice and Julie both look funky. I trimmed a lot of lower stuff off both Jack Herer.

Not seeing much new pistils yet but the smell is wonderful.

The OG / SFV girls have been above ground for over 100 days. March 27th is when the last two seeds popped. The two Jack Herer clones have been around longer than that. Weird. This is gonna take a while. Last year I harvested second week of October. I think next year I will sprout seeds in May - if they go into flower end of July / early August that should work out. This year I sprouted in March thinking they would grow larger before going into flower, but they surprised me by going early.

The netting is working great - although these girls are a bit taller than last year. I'm already thinking how I will do the cages different to accommodate for taller / wider plants.

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

I like the net idea thought about getting one or two myself then I forgot my memory sucks either way, they are looking beautiful Grateful just take your time and have a edible and a beer and watch the ladies grow :)
Thanks TC!
This is a fun hobby with many benefits.

Everything is looking great back there! Carry on with everything you're doing. :)
Thanks Shed!
The Jacks are looking better - and they smell wonderful!

Wow the girls are looking fantastic and rocking along nicely. Can’t wait to see them in bud. Nice job brother
Thanks Bionic!
2 of the 5 OGs are showing lots of pistils and bud development. The others are a week or two behind. This is a long slow process outdoors in the summer heat but very much worth it if I can keep the bugs away.

Outside temps have been in the low 90's so I've been giving water or nutes every other day (NNW/NNW). Seems to be working OK for now. If they are getting too much nutes I think the tips of leaves turn brown - yes? So far very few tips are brown so I will continue with this schedule unless it gets hotter or much cooler.

When I only give water I spray thru the netting. When I give full nutes I remove the netting and also inspect the plants. I've been moving branches around to maximize sun exposure to the tops, and also minimize netting brushing on the flowers - which is a bit of a concern now that they are getting taller.

Hey @TwelveCoffee - is there an easy way to weld galvanized rods to the tomato cage? I've been securing them with zip ties. I'm thinking I weld them to be more secure, and also make the loops taller / wider to keep netting off the flowers. I have a torch for brazing copper. Not sure solder would work unless I used a hollow tube between pieces to fill with solder.

Just thinking out loud here.

Depends on the material of the cage if it’s aluminum it won’t hold, stainless like work with silicone bronze if both are galvanized it would work again with bronze but I haven’t brazed in years. If you have extra of the cage wear a mask and heat it up if it smells floral and has white particles it’s most likely galvanized. When I go inside I’ll post a picture of what it looks like when it’s burned.

Here you go grateful should look similar when burned

Thanks TC!
I'll keep rigging it using zip ties and wire for now.
Sorry about the mold issues.
No problem Grateful and thank you kindly. Have you ever tried tig welding? Pretty much the same as brazing with the addition of a foot petal to control how much amperage your putting out it’s fun :)

The ladies looked droopy today so I'm going to water every day for a few days - but a little less water. Yesterday we got up to 102˚F and will be close to that the next few days. Today they got nutes again. 2 gallons spread around 7 plants. I'm not watering to runoff in this heat.

Enjoy your day!

I'm not watering to runoff in this heat.
Why is that?
I usually go the other direction in hot weather (more water than they really need)
But, that's just me...

Why? It seems counterintuitive.

Good question. So the first two times I grew out on the patio and it got balls hot I tried extra water. Seemed to me they got more droopy from too much water. I had a heck of a time figuring that out. I kept thinking not enough water and would give more - they would look OK for a few hours then droopy in the evening. So I would give more and it just seemed worse.

So I let them really dry out (and look totally dead), then gave water every day but not a lot. About half what I give when temps are nice (and water ever other day). Seemed to work so I'm going that route again this time. I'll drench to runoff maybe every third watering, then let them dry out a day before starting every day water again. I'm stressing the crap out of these bitches ladies! Stress is good right? LOL!

Got up over 100˚F again today and I just checked - 6:30 PM - and they look just fine. Surprising. I hope I don't jinx it but I gotta say these ladies look to be my best yet. Knock wood.

Proper amount of water has always perplexed me.

Hey, if it works for you,(and it obviously does) that's all that matters! :thumb:
I just figure, if I'm hot and thirsty, the plants probably are too..., and, I use mc, so more water means more nutrients for the plant...

Seems to be working. I dunno - I'm just winging it here. LOL!

I believe these plants are doing better than last year because I've been feeding more and giving more water.
Yesterday I gave them plenty of hose water - no Calmag - to runoff. Taking Shed and Carcass' advice. Today they look just fine so no water. I'll give nutes again tomorrow. Plenty of nutes. So far no yellowing / browning tips but we do have a few yellowing lower leaves. Not a biggie.

I was originally thinking I would have monster plants six feet tall and pounds of weed - LOL! Part of me was hoping they would stay under 4ft tall and fit under the netting. Losing an entire crop to pests is . . . traumatic. So far the netting is working well but I fear they are stretching a bit and may outgrow the netting / cages. My brain is twisting thinking about how to continue to utilize the netting for the remainder of this grow.

So far I'm tweaking and twisting and tying down and propping up and trying to keep netting off the flowers - with mixed results.

Lori has been challenging as she has many tops that continue to reach skyward. I'm gonna need bigger cages and bigger nets. She has the fewest amount of pistils forming. I think that is about to change.

Yesterday afternoon I sprayed Safer on all - thoroughly - then washed off a short time later. I like having virtually NO BUGS (knock wood). Now that the ladies are flowering in earnest that may change - too enticing for the locals.
